@dlowan,
Glad you're not being forced to move. Moving by design is one thing. Moving cuz you gotta is something else.

Chunky sounds good to me. The more chunk, the more cat. The more cat, the better.

Cute is cute,,,but ruining my quilt still rankles....especially when I have no money to replace it or pay the bills!

Just a thought, Deb.
Perhaps dry cleaning would fix the problem & save you having to buy a new one?

@Roberta,
They're supposed to look like grey hounds. No chunk.

Especially not supposed to look like queen mother

@Roberta,
I'd kind of like to leave now.....I'm over the strata dramas and huge costs we've had.

@msolga,
Yeah...I'll check with the quilt cleaning people....but I can't afford to get that done right now anyway and I have doubts about the possibility.

Thought I might have got to it fast enough with the smell removing stuff...but I think I can smell cat pee now and viola was just sniffing where she did it.

I can't let anything encourage her to do such a thing again so I might need to toss it.

@dlowan,
Down is easily machine-washable. Doesn't need dry-cleaning.

I don't know what you commonly use for covers. If it is a reasonably tight cotton weave, the whole thing can be tossed into the machine - gentle cycle - with either tennis balls or one or two washable shoes - can also go into the dryer that way.

If the cover is a loose weave, you can put it into a tighter-weave duvet cover before tossing it into the wash.

Down duvets are not particularly delicate.

@ehBeth,
My pissed on down pillows were not affected by wool cycle...but this had no effect on smell.

Vigorous washing destroyed them......the down went into hard clumps that could not be effectively broken down. ( I tried)

My experience is therefore quite contrary to yours.

Why the tennis balls?

I might have a go at the gentle cycle.....I have nothing to lose.

I dont have a dryer by the way

@dlowan,
the tennis balls keep the duvet/pillow/coat (whatever the down item) from clumping into one corner of the machine - also prevents the down from settling in clumps in corners in the duvet/quilt. I prefer to use washable sneakers - they have a more paddle-like effect, but tennis balls work nicely. You can buy fancy faux tennis-balls for laundry use here. I can't be bothered. The cheap ones work well.

NOT vigorous washing. Gentle cycle. mrs hamburger occasionally took her enormous duvet/quilts to the laundromat where they had the jumbo machines - really good results.

I haven't dry-cleaned any down item for about 20 years now. I've even started washing my wool winter dress coats. That took a bit of fiddling to get the details right - but they come out nicely now.

@ehBeth,
Cool! Thank you.

May have more woollie pix up if Soz has time at some point.

Must find a photo site I can actually use!

Is there an idiot proof one?

Another walk with the woollies on this Saturday afternoon, Deb?
(Probably not, if your weather's anything like it is here. Wet!)

@dlowan,
Cold here, though not freezing. Yet.

You'll just have to arrange for some highly energetic indoor games to exercise them. Sounds like fun! Wink

@msolga,
Jingly, feathery mouse on rope and stick (also with feathers) is the current mega hit. They bring it to me and beg me to play with them.

I hear it jingling late at night. It turns up in all sorts of places. They had managed to make a bunch of knots in the string....

The feathers are beginning to look tatty, and it's only been here a week.

I will be getting them a water fountain so they can play with water without wasting it.

I think Sebastian is gradually warming up to the idea of actually spending time in a bath with water in it.

Any tap turned on anywhere in the house is a cause for immediate galloping attendance and play.

I have taps they could conceivably learn to use, which is NOT a happy prospect!

@dlowan,
Roberta calls herself an idiot in these matters though not exactly in those words. She used www.photobucket.com for her old family pictures. (I use it, too.)
