@dlowan,
Came home from extremely bad day on Intake (think extremely busy, tiny children with very nasty injuries, mad maternal family, very nasty violent daddy requiring police involvement, stressed out doctors, etc.) to find the reminder for Viola's blood pressure check....which I can't afford and don't want the results of!

I stayed perfectly calm in the thick of it...but really couldn't sleep last night.

However, this morning is Saturday and there's a long weekend. Leisurely "morning love-in" for both cats.

They actually take it in turns! Today it was Viola first for a good twenty minutes, then, as soon as she was finished, Sebastian. We also have an evening one.....brief flurries of affection while they scarf down dinner, then a protracted session for each when they have finished. It's cute that they appear to respect each others time with me.

I was thinking yesterday that we ought to be able to have our pets with us to help us with the stress of intake. A friendly smooch with Sebastian during the day would be great. Not so great would be his antics for the rest of the day.....I can only imagine what he would do with the piles of paper, pens, clips, etc etc

@dlowan,
Oops....Viola back for session two.

How much smooching can my nose take?

@dlowan,
That's up to your nose.

Wish things were easier for you work wise.

Glad you have the felines to soothe and amuse.

Yes, that would be very nice indeed.
And perhaps the cost of their upkeep should become a tax deduction, too?
Think of the medical bills they could save us ... & the government! Smile Wink

Sorry work has been so awful, Deb.
Enjoy a big relax & unwind over the long weekend.
I suppose it's too cold & wet to take Viola & Sebastian for their walks?

@msolga,
We had a big play this morning... resurrected Mousie...the squeaking mouse on the end of the long string, with feathers as well. Viola was leaping around like a kitten.

I don't think outside is quite where either of them wishes to be at present! They are sun cats.

Re work....thank you both....I had the easy part of the drama, I wasn't in with the mad people! Nor was I one of the luckless on-call people who had to go on with it until goodness knows when. I haven't seen the doctor who got landed with it all so stressed before...or the person who does most of the psycho-social stuff for our inpatients, lord help him.

@dlowan,
Just found this thread again, being a cat lover. Sad, David is allergic to short haired " animals" onto my 13th I think?

My little boy is also like your cat dlowan, can't take much without throwing it up.

My vet (Adelaide) heard recently you are one of me? yay. Anyways sweared by cat food? I personally always fed my cats good food, you know left overs no fat.. If Bigsy eats anything, anything, that is not cat food? He is the same?

Maybe the Vet is right... Hope you sort it out, cats and me well, children and more..

Though I now have 3 dogs as well.

Where in Adelaide do you live if I may ask?

Smile

And, what job, donno if I can help but who knows Smile

@FOUND SOUL,
Sebastian is happily keeping his food down again thank you Found Soul.

They eat Science Diet....currently on the Indoor Cats one. I think Sebastian's trouble happened because I ran out and bought some supermarket kibble.

I found your post a little hard to understand...do you mean you have a son who is thirteen who is allergic to cats? Sorry to hear that.

@dlowan,
13th cat Smile They seem to find me, most hurt, injured end up on my doorstep.

My "fiance" is allergic to short haired animals.. Short sentences. Sorry about that.

I have a diabetic dog.. On Hills. One who has a liver diet, on Hills.. Same really as Science... Different brand.

I didn't read the beginning of the thread, just figgered like me, perhaps we thought we were doing the right thing with food apparently not.

It does show I guess that some cat/dog food, or even our own diet food doesn't work.

I honestly got a shock when the vets told me that Bigsy (cat) eating lean mince, veg and pasta (they should never eat pasta? ) is what caused his illness.. pretty simular to your story.

Glad that Sebastian is happy and it's all working.. I am still in shock that what we eat (without fat) does not work.. I truly thought I was feeding them with healthy food.

I can see you love animals Smile Me too...

I think you know I have a rabbit too? That is toilet trained and lives with my cat.

@FOUND SOUL,
Had to smile tonight. Viola was cuddling and kissing me...but her breath smelt odd. Not unpleasant, just odd....I then found the eucalyptus leaf she had brought in for me to throw for her, and which she had been chewing.

Eucalyptus breath on a cat is very strange! They both love sniffing eucalypts and pines.

does anything other than koalas (and your cats) get off on eucalyptus? glad you liked the elephant vid--I thought Shirley and Jenny and Solomon were magnificent.

@MontereyJack,
I was gonna ask the very same question. Eucalyptus-eating feline. Must be some koala in there somewhere.

@MontereyJack,
Lots of people like the scent of eucalyptus. I love it....especially after rain. There is nothing more heavenly than the scent of a lemon-scented gum tree after rain.

I am enthralled by elephants...read every account of studying them in the wild that I can find.

@Roberta,
I nibble eucalyptus leaves...they are lovely. But not to live on!

Viola chews all the toys she brings me to retrieve. The bits of paper are all punctured like zest graters with her teeth marks....the dry leaves just don't hold up to it very well!

It's interesting that she chose a blown in eucalyptus leaf rather than the multiple ficus leaves that are the main leaf feature of my balcony.

@dlowan,
I dreamed last night that I had just walked out of Intake, rather dreamily, and left work before five. In the dream I realized what I had done and rushed back, only to find that there had been lots of work that had had to be picked up by someone else in my absence.

I felt absolutely terrible! So good to wake up.

From what I know of eucalyptus leaves, which is virtually nothing, they aren't know for their aerodynamicness, i.e. they don't throw well. Is that what Viola brings you when she's pooped and doesn't want to have to go far to retrieve it when you throw it?

@MontereyJack,
No. I think she just found it and likes it. Eucalyptus leaves are kind of cool in their aerodynamics......they spin vigorously as they fall.....looks great.

I hope she doesn't lick my nose too much tonight.....I have a pimple INSIDE my right nostril.......aaaaarrrrrrgggghhhhhh....hurts like hell.

A friend lost her beloved tuxedo cat, Punk, the other day. Punk was nearly sixteen and lived a wonderful life. She acted like a kitten until very recently. Was distressed for a couple of days and was found to have advanced cancer....cats are such little troupers and, sadly, don't show pain and illness until they are in real trouble.

Ave Punk....you was a great cat.

Cats must be among the most stoic animals on the planet. Sorry to hear about Punk.

Be good to yourself, kid.

@Roberta,
They are.....worked for them in the wild. Not when living with us.

Just realized the bleeding obvious.

How do you feed, play with and exercise your cat in one fell swoop?

Throw individual pieces of kibble for them to chase, capture, play with and eat!

Just gave the woollies their supper in this manner. They are still running around looking for any pieces they missed. Previously, they were running after pepitas in the same way. They are very excited!
