Tequila? <shudder>

Guess you won't be watching Seabiscuit then, but at least you'll be getting some exercise.

So there are big benefits to being snowbound... why don't they mention this on the weather reports?

There's just so much exercising one can do, tho. After a few days, even that can get old.
Cabin fever is no joke.

More snow!!

This I like, a lot. Our last snowfall was still on the ground, getting a little grungy tho, now we have a few more inches on top, everything's lovely again. AND it's not too terribly cold. I see some sledding in our future.

Cabin fever is a definite problem, sozlet's friend Jack has a mattress just for bouncing in his playroom, they were both going insane with the bouncing as only two cooped-up 3-year-olds can.

It's been freezing here for days...I ventured outside to see if my car would start. It's been setting for three days in sub temperatures, but it started.

Yes, I love snow!

I think you have a point about very hilly places and places with trees that just aren't used to the load -- trees are not something I think of here at all, unless there is say an ice storm. But I like things to be 50 and up or 30 and below, with snow on the ground. 30-50 with icky gray dirty cold drippy yuckiness is my least favorite. For example, London's climate when I lived there (January-May) was the absolute pits. I never seemed to warm up all of the way. When it gets below 30, it's cold, to be sure, but dry enough that you can snuggle up with some blankets (or a warm toddler) and be comfortable.

Still hot here - and bushfires again! You can smell them in the morning air.

It's been so dry the whole country is just waiting to burn! And the hot winds just move the flames faster.

I feel sorry for one of my friends though - he flies back to Toronto tomorrow. He refuses to talk about, or even acknowledge, that it might be a tad colder there! He doesn't want to spend his last days here dreading what he has to face there (for 2 more months before another trip home!)

Sozobe -- snuggling = good! I think you're right, weather should be one or the other... not this middle-of-the-road stuff. Have fun with your girl! I remember when my daughter was close to that age and she'd laugh as we'd put on all those layers of clothes. Then she could hardly get her arms down... they'd stick out like a little penguin.

Margo -- not the fires again. Here... have some wet, slushy snow. THAT would put them out in a hurry.

Piffka, regarding the northern lights......

We rarely see them in the summer. Our days last forever, it doesn't get really dark until 11:00 - midnight, and dawn is 4:30 - 5am. You will usually see the lights from August till May, unless you're a nightowl, with best viewing in the winter of course.
Aurora's colour is mostly green here, in the city. The best viewing is further up north, more colours and the lights actually glimmer. Unfortunatly, the best viewing is also in the winter months, as summer in the artic is twenty-four hours a day.
Don't get me wrong, if you like winter, this is the place. Alberta has spectacular mountains with the best skiing in the world. We tend to be a hearty people, we do to celebrate our viscious climate.

Cold that can make double layered double thick gloves of heavy duty fleece almost useless.

We have talked about going to Canada for our next longish trip, as far as Calgary to see some Provincial Parks, but I'd sure like to see the Northern Lights when they're really active. Are they "out" most nights?

Check out this... very unusual for Washington. A photographer was taking photos of the Perseids a couple of years ago and got lucky. He had to stay up 'til 3am though! I've been to the place where the picture was taken many times but I've never seen anything like this:

I'd say after this week that I don't really like winter. I thought I did. I think I still like a little bit of snow... somewhere, occasionally, and if it quickly melts. Very Happy

Not hearty at all!

Windchill of -28 fahrenheit now. The dogs do NOT want to go out for more than a minute or so at a time now. They're planning to stay in, and have kibble with tomato sauce and tiny meatballs. Smart dogs. Very Happy

Bailey ran into the stairs of the little back stoop. He was in a bit of a rush to get to the door. Poor skinny little dog. Not much padding to keep him warm. Lots of nice silky hair, but no blubber.
