What about some relief from this damn heat!! 10.30 at night and it is still uncomfortably warm!!

We had a storm, it knocked out the power, then it went away and it's hot AGAIN!!

Youse lot have NO idea how much we suffer down here (and I've almost run out of white rum, lime juice and ice) - stop using those frickin' SUVs!!!!

-19 here this morning, without figuring the windchill, which factors to about -45. Even Frank, the Husky mix who is content to sleep under a balnket of snow, used the doggie door, something he rarely ever does, and spent the night in the basement. Today's high is forecast to be -5.

Damn, that makes me shiver just reading it, timber.

Here in Super Bowl City, it's currently 45; clouds are moving in from the coast which means it's warming and offering a chance of some rain after a couple of clear, cold days and nights ('cold' in this definition meaning in the mid-thirties) and a high of 61 today.

My tee-off time is 11 am.

And I will need the Cool

Good for Frank!

Why is it so cold there? Are you in the mountains?

the eastern end of lake ontario has frozen over between the canadian side and the u.s. side, that's always a sure sign that winter has arrived here. btw. the large body of lake ontario - let's say between toronto and rochester usually never freezes completely over. now we wait for the middle of march when the canadian coastguard icebreaker comes up the st. lawrence river from cornwall to open up a pathway; it's usually the sign that spring is coming - can't wait ! hbg

Standup - I think everyone who uses a block heater and/or battery blanket has done that at least once.

I still recall the first time I worked in Northern Ontario. I looked out the window at the parking lot - and wondered why there were so many hitching posts. I'm not sure if it was because I'd just arrived from a Mennonite part of the country, or if I thought I'd arrived in the Wild West.
Ahhhhh, they're electrical outlet posts!

I remember seeing those when I drove the TransCanada Hwy in '74 from Ontario to BC (to get from Upstate NY to Oregon). Made me realize how cold it gets there--once I'd figured out what the heck they were!

Actually about 25 degrees above horizontal, if you must know.

This reminds me (and no offense here, Piff) of a guy I met at a gas station in Wyoming (I think it was Wyoming) on our move from CA to Chicago. He saw the trailer and asked where we were headed. We told him. He said, "Chicago, eh? That's in the mountains." I told him that Chicago was not in the mountians, but in the middle of a vast, flat plain, right on Lake Michigan. "No, it's in the mountains," he tells me. I assure him that I've been there and it is very flat. He says, "I saw it on the news, and there was a lot of snow. It's in the mountains." There was no talking him out of it.

4 degrees in Madison. Some slick sidewalks ever since the little ice storm over the weekend. Woo hoo!

Many years ago, I was hitching up the coast from Northern California to Oregon. A young dude gave me a lift and asked where I was from originally. I told him NY, and he asked, "That's near Florida, isn't it?" At the time I thought he was pretty dim, but compared to some of today's students, he didn't do too badly. Got the coast right!

Yeah?

PatioDog, c'mere I'm gonna smack ya with a newspaper. I'd think you (of all people) could tell sarcasm when you read it.

I have one of those stories, too.

One summer we were planning a trip to visit Mr.P's sister. A friend's sister heard us say we were going to the east coast. "Oh," she said, "It's winter back there isn't it?"

(Strangely, she was the valedictorian of her HS class and went on to become a big cheese for a hospital in Seattle.)

And how cold is it today in the flatlands?

We've got ... guess what... a light rain & 43F. The daffodils are rising. Most of us think spring is right around the corner.
