Let me explain why I think you're mistaken, Sumac.

What would have been the reaction to this mosque had 9-11 and all the attendant misery never happened? What is happening didn't start with 9-11? It has been been happening for well over a century and it happens because Americans are deluded by crap like that from Bloomberg.

If you take issue with what Bloomberg said in juxtaposition with your views on the USA (which are obviously superior to and more well thought out than anyone else's), why take issue with the spoken half that represents what (at least I imagine) you want the USA to be?

JTT wrote:

Americans are so deluded that they don't sit up and say, "Hey, they just killed, in my name, with my money, over a hundred thousand innocent people because our president lied to us". [same scenario for Afghanistan]

They do. Also, since you're wearing your zeal goggles, it's not just in the USA's name. The rhetoric was that it was in the world's interest. As for money, US tax payer's money certainly purchases the bombs and bullets, but the cash that lines the pockets of politicians is not all from the USA.

Can you name the richest political lobby in the USA, JTT?
JTT wrote:

Just the lies should be enough to get you incensed. This same thing happened with Reagan - tens of thousands of innocent Nicaraguans tortured, raped, murdered by Reagan's Contras, you know, those guys who are the equivalent of the Founding Fathers.

Who says she isn't incensed? Are you the arbiter of who is and isn't upset enough?

JTT wrote:

It's really odd that people think there has to be some special occasion to talk about the real injustices, the ones heaped upon the Iraqis. Don't spoil our nice little chat about us, this is our "us" time.

No. This isn't "us" time. This is a very relevant conversation about how the USA will either fold to or confront religious and ethnic prejudices. That's a dialog that has an impact far beyond our borders JTT.

It's ironic that you want to scold people for trying to make this topic US exclusive (I don't think they are), but wish to take the topic to a conversation that is solely US centric.

JTT seems to think that no one agrees with him on any or all of his issues, when some of us do, but think he raises them on every possible thread, fairly often to the thread's derailing. As JPB said on another thread, JTT, what is your point? This all gets to be a kind of battering, and it clouds the discussion whether or not we agree with you. Failures art has the heart and importance of the discussion pegged, whatever side of the issues one is on, or changes to.

It's the whole ball of wax, FA. It's this constant drone of propaganda,

"and our first responders defended not only our city but also our country and our Constitution,”

Did they wave the Constitution over the dead in hopes of bringing themback to life? Did they use it like a cross to vampires? Such drivel!

"We honor their lives by defending those rights — and the freedoms the terrorists attacked.”

There was no attack on "freedoms"; that came later, from your own government, with the "Patriot" Act, more drivel, "Patriot Act", Jesus kerist, it never stops!

These people don't want the USA, they want you to get the **** out of their lands, to stop meddling in their way of life, to stop stealing their resources.

Stop trying to provide cover for this bullshit, Art. Deal with the millions that have died merely to line the pockets of Americans.

Yup, rhetoric filled with lies it was. Were you tricked too?

Generic 'you', Art. But as you ask, I haven't noticed a plethora of threads, ever, demanding that these felons that you mistake for government, be held to account.

Nice try, Art. You'll not find any post from me that demand anyone constrain themselves to one issue. But that's a pretty popular refrain from you. This is just a variation on that theme.

@ossobuco,
That's nice that you agree, Osso. I note just how successful y'all have been in containing your government. All those dead Iraqis and Afghans thank you too.

So while you're fretting over what to have for dinner, you still have a place to cook it and something to cook and some electricity to cook it with and a TV to sit and watch what your government has done to these innocent people.

Forgive me for ever derailing any thread. I see now that those concerns were trivial at best. Like Barbara Bush, why should your "beautiful minds" have to be troubled by these sordid events?

@JTT,
JTT, I've been reading your stuff, and said similar things in my posts. It seems those people who are against the mosque don't want Muslim Americans the same rights and freedoms, because they are "Muslim" and want to build a mosque in NYC. Those few Muslim terrorists who were responsible for the WTC must not be compared to our home-grown terrorist activities at home and around the world. Our terrorists activities around the world far exceeds what was lost at the WTC, but that's a minor point. Of coarse, we still want "world trade" with everybody - including the Middle East.

My god, that would be be an abomination against the US.

@JTT,
Your talking about my cooking dinner and mentioning it online is a red herring, marinated no doubt. I personally have worked to effect change, details of which are none of your business.

@ossobuco,
I've not asked for details, Osso, nor shall I, but I still note that y'all have been pretty ineffective in containing your government.

I also note that there is this gi-normous space into which all the "appropriate time and place" postings discussing these "pressing and important" issues will one day fit.

Where do you keep yours? Do you figure it will require you to get a bigger residence?

Dr. Dahlia Wasfi - Life in Iraq Under U.S. Occupation

Shortages; lack of electricity; potable water; tanks rolling through the streets night and day; gunfire and explosions. Iraqi health care in shambles. 200 bodies turn up daily in the Baghdad morgue. For Iraqis, it's 9/11 every day.

"For Iraqis, it's 9/11 every day."

I think I could count on one hand [I still have all 5 digits] those posts that considered the plight of the Iraqi people. [granted, I haven't read every post in all threads] That would probably still leave me enough free fingers to eat potato chips.

@JTT,
and it ain't gonna get much better, one thing saddam did was keep a sort of peace, not a great peace, but a peace all the same, when and if the last soldiers leave i can only assume it won't be pretty

Friday afternoon treat for the fellas...Miss USA, Rima Fakih. Huffpo reports she opposes the mosque being built so close to ground zero. Although she, like, totally agrees they have a right to build it there.

@Irishk,
Heck, if I let every good looking babe change my mind about things, I'll just be more confused. I love the view, tho.

@JTT,
You can't keep on subject, thread after thread. This is not useful. I say this as a famous thread digresser. Your anger is in your way.

On the main/key/only subject that engages you, you could have opened a thread, but, noooooooo, you plotz on other threads repeatedly.

I await your trying to engage with the stuff on word games.

@ossobuco,
I have absolutely no desire to become involved in a protracted debate on this, on this thread, but JTT is right. There is a direct connection between 9/11 & the Iraq invasion. 9/11 was used as the excuse for that invasion.
Now you guys can vote this comment down, if you like.
