@hawkeye10,
I agree that there IS a serious problem, (after all, I WAS the one that started this thread) but after awhile, I think that all this talk is just so much intellectual masturbation.

I keep coming back because the people running this project keep coming back with more evidence that they are yokels who can not be trusted, which leads me to conclude that their claims and stories are BS. I think that this is important info to pass put to the Care Bears who want to love the stuffing out of these creeps, and claim that we who do not are defective.

Once I got called defective for holding my view this became personal. I am right, and I expect history to prove me right, and then I owe a bunch of people an "I told you so".

@hawkeye10,
I have some very strong feelings on the subject, and, like you, am convinced that history will bear me out. If the truth be told, I am actually very fearful of the possible ramifications of all that is going on, the mosque being only a small part of a much larger scenario.

I really hope that I am dead wrong, but I don't think so.

@Phoenix32890,
You started the thread, and now to continue to speculate on the ongoing controversy is "mental masturbation"?

You did not think that the concern over asshole Muslims was going to go away after a month did you? We have been dealing with this problem for almost a decade, we are currently in 1.5 wars over the subject, this is not going away until the Muslims learn some tolerance and civility.

For you, this about all Muslims, and your negative feelings about all of them.

And the wars we are involved in have to do with radical Muslim terrorist groups, not all of Islam, and we've been dealing with that problem for more than a decade.

For some people, this actually is just about some Muslim Americans building a community center/mosque in lower Manhattan.

You're the one not demonstrating tolerance and civility toward your fellow citizens--the ones who want to build that community center/mosque. They don't seem intolerant of others of a different religion, and they are behaving in a quite civil manner.

And they said today they don't expect to break ground on the project for about three years. They have plenty of time to find an architect and raise money. They never were in hurry about this.

Khan said that moderate Muslims like her must lead the fight against extremists in their religion.

"This is what we Muslims want to do, but you have tied our hands," Khan said. "You don't allow us to do this because you brand somebody like me as an extremist and throw me into the arms of al Qaeda."

So what is she saying here.....that if they are not able to build their mosque then she will become a Qaeda sympathizer?? Moderate Muslims might want to fight against the Muslim extremists but we see darn little of them actually doing it, and no this is not my fault, it is theirs.

On a more hopeful note, it sounds like fundrasing is not not going so good.

I think this message has been coming from you for a long long time. Bush Jr and his media pals really got to you.

@ehBeth,
Beth- No, not Bush. After awhile, I found that I was not particularly enamoured of him. It is his successor that concerns me.

Only because you have internalized the fears that the right-wing has patiently stoked over the last two years. And you'll never - ever - convince me that a large portion of your fears aren't based in latent racist and xenophobic attitudes. This thread makes it perfectly clear that such things motivate you and others on the right wing.

I certainly haven't seen the logical reason that you or anyone else would fear him, as he has governed as quite the centrist.

It's sad, really, to see how effective the bullshit can be with people.

@Phoenix32890,
You should look back at some of your posts. Look back about eight/nine years. Were you already afraid of Mr. Obama then? Had you even heard of him?

Experts liken Ground Zero mosque design to Superman's HQ
New York, Oct 4 : Futuristic designs for an Islamic centre and mosque near the site of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York, have been reportedly likened to the Fortress of Solitude, the crystalline headquarters of Superman depicted in comic books, by experts.

Considering that this is amateur hour it is HIGHLY PROBABLE that the design was lifted from a Superman Comic Book

Let the record indicate that I have NOT been collecting Kryptonite.

The thread has been silent for three weeks. I guess all the doom and gloomers found something else to whine about.

That... or the Muslims put on disguises

So far as I know nothing has changed...the project has not been able to move forwards and peoples minds are the same. Not really anything to talk about. At some point there will be.
