Thankfully, JJ is still too young to vote.

U need to teach him how to operate the voting machine
(and explain that he shoud not hang any chads).

@OmSigDAVID,
I first would like to teach him how to sound like a mule! He's still doing his taradactyl (sp) impression.

Okay JJ is just getting way too smart for his own good. But, I might be blaming him for something that isn't his fault. Johnny's cousin, John Robert, came over awhile ago and told me all of my horses were out of their pasture! I freaked. I threw on some shoes, grabbed my carrot stick, jumped in the truck and hightailed it up there. Thank God Johnny had locked the gate to the entrace of Joe's house next door because the horses were out there just grazing in the yard. It seems that the fence in the middle of the pasture was wide open for some reason. The little stinkers! They were pretty easy to get back in. They knew what they did and headed straight for the open fence. I was worried Lil Man would be hard to get in there but he is adjusting well and he walked right in once I got him turned around. I told JJ, "I know you did it and you know you did it. I just have to figure out how." LOL

JohnRobert said, "The last thing we need is for those horses to get hit by a train. Johnny's horse was killed by a train years ago when he got out and John Robert helped Johnny bury him. Not sure Johnny could handle that again.

Never a dull moment at the Richardson ranch!

Oh I am excited! Dr. Odom, our vet, came out today. He said JJ is a Mammoth Jack! I was hoping it was true. I love the big horses. Now, I am going to have a big pretty mule!

@OmSigDAVID,
I can't speak a lot about them yet because I am still learning. What I do know is Mammoth Jack mules can be BIG! JJ can actually get to be as tall as Big Mac who is 16.1 hands. I have heard they are even smarter and stronger than the average sized mule. I know one thing, I have to get JJ broken to a halter and lead rope pretty fast. He gets much bigger and I put a lead rope on him and he could drag me across the pasture. Probably already could!

Here is a picture of a female Mammoth Jack. I'm so happy! JJ is gonna be HUGE!

@OmSigDAVID,
Is JJ stubborn? Hmmm, I wouldn't call him stubborn exactly. He is pretty responsive like when I want him to move away from me or something. The only time I'd call him stubborn is when he is walking the inside of the fence and Mac is walking the outside with me on him. JJ won't stop until Mac gets back into the pasture.

I have no personal knowledge of how stubborn mules r.

Do u expect that when JJ is big enuf, u will be able to ride him,
the same as a horse ?

@OmSigDAVID,
From what I have read, it seems stubborn is not the right word for mules. Mules are smart, a lot smarter than horses. They think more for themselves and that seems to be taken for stubbornness. Oh you bet! I'm gonna be riding JJ someday. He will go for training when he is about two. The vet said JJ will be the best ride I have ever had. Mules are more sure footed and a gaited mule is super smooth. I bought JJ a halter today. Now, to get it on him.......................

Ta Da! Success! JJ now is wearing a beautiful red halter. Johnny held a bucket of sweet feed for JJ and we actually set the halter into the bucket and I held one side of the halter and Johnny held the other. We kept sliding it up on him until he stopped backing away from us. Then Johnny slipped the neck part over to my side of JJ's neck and I fastened it. JJ jumped around for about two seconds and then seemed to decide he was more interested in eating more of that sweet feed than he was about being worried he was wearing something on his head.

Look how big he has gotten. He will be seven months old on October 12. Anna and Dave are coming over tomorrow so Anna can get some good shots of JJ. My camera just doesn't do the job hers does.

Dave came over today to see if he could get a lead rope on JJ and start working with him. He is getting so big we have to start him or he is not going to get trained. I found out today JJ can really jump!

This is a picture of JJ after he jumped and fell. I was so afraid he got hurt but he is fine.

He is now wearing the halter around his neck. Johnny and I will have to fix that tonight. LOL That's my JJ!
