@Arella Mae,
Wow! That video is BEAUTIFUL, Arella.
I played it several times.

JJ sure is a HAPPY fellow!
He is much smarter than I was at 2 weeks of age;
much FASTER, too! I still can 't move that fast.

Well, Lulu is home. Mac won't let Lulu anywhere near JJ. He has chased Lulu from one end of the pasture to the other. I am working on the video.

But, I wanted to show you a picture of Lulu. Do you see what I see?

Do u see her as a danger to JJ?

What does Joy have to say about all this ?

@OmSigDAVID,
Lulu is at one end of the pasture and Joy, Mac, and JJ are at the other. If Lulu even looks JJ's way Mac takes off after her. The vet said Mac would be a good herd protector and he was right. Joy is acting like a female horse being protected by the big male horse. She is doing just what Mac is wanting her to. I am gonna upload some video as soon as I get it together.

Um, did you notice Lulu's face David? I'm thinking even though she has small ears, her and JJ had the same daddy?

@OmSigDAVID,
Joy let's JJ play with Mac now. She doesn't seem to mind Mac being around him at all.

I don't know if Lulu is a threat to JJ in that sense. Lulu won't try to hurt JJ but that is her momma too and I think she feels bad because Joy is avoiding her. Makes me feel sad for Lulu. But they will settle down and everyone will be buddies soon.

Yeah, I see what u mean.
I did not think of sibling rivalry, over Mom.

Maybe give Lulu some extra apples!

@OmSigDAVID,
I am sure they will all settle in and then JJ and Lulu will be playing. I just feel sorry for Lulu. She looks so sad at the end of the pasture by herself like that.

Here is the link to the video of Lulu's homecoming. Took like forever to process!

@OmSigDAVID,
JJ wants to play with Lulu. He doesn't seem to be afraid of anyone or anything. He kind of acted with her like he did Mac but this time Mac was the one coming between his object of desire and him.

I felt so sorry for Lulu this morning. She had to eat on the other side of the pasture all by herself. She tried coming up to where I have always fed the horses but Mac would have none of it and chased her off. She did let me pet her a bit this morning. Johnny and I will give her lots of special attention so she doesn't feel too alone out there. I am sure Mac will calm down in a day or two (or wear himself out chasing her) and all will be well.

I am going to ride Mac tonight and I do expect him to give me some trouble even though he just got back from the trainer. He's probably too focused on protecting JJ now. But, he's gonna ride whether he likes it or not!

Mac has pretty much stopped chasing Lulu and he is letting her within a decent range of JJ and Joy. I have some video I am working on. JJ started following Lulu away from the back pasture and mom and Mac ensued. Mac did run Lulu just a bit but then he let her come back. I think in a day or two we will have one big happy family! At least Lulu got to eat on the same side of the pasture tonight as the rest of them. I felt so sorry for her this morning. She looked so sad standing there all by herself staring over at the others.

I rode Mac a bit tonight. If I thought he was a handful because of his focus on Joy it was nothing like his focus on JJ! I kept him under control but had to actually one rein him in circles because he did try to bolt. I'll ride him every night and there is that big three hour trail ride this weekend.

I'll post the video link when I get it done.

Oh by the way, I am corresponding with a mule breeder and trainer. I just sent him a picture of Lulu and told him the story about JJ being a surprise mule and am hoping he can tell me if Lulu is a mule or not. He said the hinneys have short ears but Lulu can't be a hinney. A hinney is from a stallion and a female donkey. We know that Miss Joy is Lulu's mom so we might never know for sure if Lulu is a mule or a horse. LOL I don't care. I love her anyway.

I am buying a new camcorder (one that does download to a PC) so hopefully y'all won't have to be watching my shaky and not so good quality videos much longer. For some reason though, the music always messes up. I haven't figured that out yet.

Here is the link to the video. It is processing. It seemed to take at least 45 minutes for the others to process so y'all might wait a bit.

That 's a good idea, about sending the picture.
Will u let us know ?
Arella, this was the BEST of all of your videos (except the first one after JJ was born).
I expanded it full screen n played it several times.
It shows how playful JJ is, and he is comfortable walking on his hind legs.
The little joker hit his mom with his butt !

@OmSigDAVID,
Lulu is NOT a mule! I received an email this morning. He said I can see why you thought that but she is definitely a horse. So, she can go to Dave for training. I also asked the guy if he knew any mule trainers here in Louisiana so I'd be ready when the time comes for JJ to start his training.

In that video, it looks like JJ kicks his mom in the head and then hugged her. I have such a hard time not laughing when I video but I can't figure out if I can mute my camera so it doesn't pick up sound so I have to hold it in.

He was out there with the family this morning laying down. Mac chased Lulu away when I brought everyone's feed. I had to feed Lulu a short distance away and Mac seemed okay with that. They were all standing (except JJ, he was laying down) near the fence where I feed them this morning. Of course I was going to get a picture and you know how that goes! They all moved before I got the camera ready.

@OmSigDAVID,
Yeah she does but actually so does JJ because they are gaited. But, it was nice to get a mule breeder that has paso mules tell me that Lulu is all horse.

They all ate together tonight pretty much. Joy and Mac did chase Lulu from her food one time so they could take a bite of hers. But, that is what they always did with each other, so I'd say they are all settling in pretty good!

I've been away from A2K for a little over a week, and one of the first things I did tonight was read the updates on this thread.

Arella, Joy and JJ's story has been such a treat for this city kid.

My grandfather was a road and levee contractor in the early part of the last century when Oklahoma (where I live) was first being developed. We have pictures of his camps, and I even have his old journals. He wrote in one that a good mule was worth at least two horses. I remembered that when JJ was born. I think my grandfather would have said you were very lucky indeed.
