Consider the source? The source is the Alaska legislative panel. Whether it's being quoted by MSNBC or FoxNews or ITAR-TASS, facrissakes, makes no difference. MSNBC didn't invent a legislative report.

You have no idea whatever why he is defending her unless you have developed long distance mind reading, nor is it relevant. An assertion should stand or fall on its merits regardless of its origin.
