@dlowan,
I thought I was past it, too. I hadn't had one for almost 20 years. Then, halfway into my 40s...BAM! Completely blindsided me.

Now I know. Nobody is immune.

@Eva,

While I am thrilled to hear that you finally have a clean soul, Gus (a clean anything for that matter), I wouldn't call that a crush. You and Sheila had a mutual attraction.

I think of "crushes" more as unrequited infatuations.

What do the rest of you think?

I don't for one moment believe that Gus's soul is cleansed. Foist I'd have to believe that he had one.

More to the point, Eva, I agree that crushes are almost alway unrequited. Once they become requited, they're not quite crushes anymore, IMO.

Man, I fell into a silly crush over Wolverine played by (ha! I forgot his name!) Hugh Jackman. I think that was my last famous crush. I had a little 2 week crush on a local musician stage-named Adam Ezra.

In Junior High (what is now Middle School) it was Dean Martin. I can't explain why....there was just something that got me about him. I pretended he was my pillow at night so that I could fall asleep in his arms.

As a young adult, it was Cliff Robertson who could make make go weak in the knees. Again no clue why he was so darn attractive to me.

And now it's a toss up between Keanu Reeves and Colin Farrell. Not exactly a crush any more since both are younger than my kids, but I just like to look. No explanation whatsoever why they are 'my type', and I might hate them both in real life, but I sure like to look.

In real life three guys spanning highschool and college made my heart go pitter pat. Two I never dated. One I finally did after a year of pining for him. And then I married somebody else for which I thank God every day. Smile

My major second crush--not quite as intense but just as enduring--was on Paul Newman. I met him once. I couldn't speak. Couldn't breathe. Couldn't function. I still get all soft and gooey when I think about him. See his films. Sigh.

Have you receive that e-mail that's going around, supposedly a true story about a lady who had a schoolgirl crush on Paul Newman? And then, while visiting California, she entered a Ben and Jerry's, ordered an ice cream cone, paid for it, turned around and as she was exiting the store, there she was, face to face with those riveting blue bedroom eyes. She murmured hello and and he grinned and said "Hi." She was beside herself, and got to the car and started looking for her keys to unlock the car and realized she was holding them. But she didn't have her ice cream cone. She must have left it on the counter.

She started back to the store and met him again. He smiled and told her, "You put it in your purse."

@Foxfyre,
Foxfyre, Keanu Reeves isn't a crush for me, but I like to look too. There are lots of like to looks. I'm cogitating on the difference between like to look and a crush. There's something additional with a crush. Some kind of want rather than just looking.

Laughing about the ice cream in the purse. I remember thinking after I met Paul that he must think all women are complete idiots (like me) and that Joanne probably got him because she was able to speak coherently and not do anything stupid in his presence. Sigh.

Keanu is quite beautiful , but he is one of those men that I want to see in about 20 years. A little age will turn that beautiful man into an irresistible hunk .

But the way things stand in my head, Christian Bale has it all..
