Nice post, eoe.

I've said before that one of the most interesting things I've seen on TV this political season -- and I haven't found any real reference to it or transcripts or I'd get those -- was the CNN anchor Tony Harris (who is black) and two black commentators waiting for Obama's big speech on race in Philly. The speech was very late to start, so they had to keep stretching things out and out. What they started talking about as things stretched on was the idea of how black people talk to each other when there aren't white people around, as it related to Wright's comments. None of this was news to them. They weren't surprised, but they also weren't surprised that white people were getting so upset about it.

The conversation became more and more comfortable and blunt -- all three people talking were black, though I'm sure they had a large white audience -- and I felt a little fly-on-the-wall-ish, getting to see things I haven't often seen. (I've occasionally been the only white person in a black gathering, but not that often. More often there have been situations like when a black student in a women's studies class I went to kept being peppered with questions as the representative black woman, and I noticed her extreme discomfort with that as she tried to be game about it.)

I'm sure you've had many experiences yourself Soz, being hearing-impaired, that those who aren't will never understand. Many never understand or worse, even give a damn about your frustration and anger at the insensitivities of the rest of the world.
And the beat goes on.

Frankly, I'm not ready to accept the notion that Michele Obama actually wrote what was alleged in the opinion piece from Craigslist. I'd rather read the thesis myself and come to my own opinion about what "they" say is in it. Sorry AUnumbers, but I don't like others to cherry pick lines out of a "paper" and pass it off as some sort of deep message, or even worse, clarification of other peoples hidden agenda regardless of how badly you may want to believe it.

It seems the one needing "real change" in their life lately has been Barack...

Barack is doing just fine. As usual, the zealots went overboard and made complete and obvious fools of themselves and their desperate attempts to tear him down have only backfired on them. Once again.
It's a new day baby. Get with it. Very Happy

Wow, I haven't heard such vile crap in years...the last time was when I was forced to endure someone's wedding celebration while seated next to a John Birch Society maniac. Don't get me wrong, I was fascinated....but fascinated in a way you tend to be when you are talking to a truely disturbed person.....although it is useful to know what kind of hate-filled claptrap some folks cling to.

I would urge the poster to remember (on Memorial Day) that we are Americans regardless of party affiliation. I am grateful to the service my Father provided to this country during WWII and I still mourn the loss of my relatives lost during the Viet Nam conflict. Many serve and many more sit in arm chairs and fret over issues that have nothing to do with patriotism. I would further urge the poster to avoid such poisonous sites as you should reject kiddie porn.....it doesn't do anything useful. But because of the service my Dad and many other Dad performed we have the right to read anything we want regardless of the paucity of virtue, with the rightful exception of criminal material such as kiddie-porn and snuff films. However is Lorne Baxter is just another comic writer like the folks at the Onion or Landover Baptist Church, pardon me for being shocked, I may have missed the joke (sic).

Butrflynet......you are a brave person to post a truth when so many people are more comfortable with distortion. You are my hero. I'm not even sure who I will vote for but I do know I hate the smell of bullcrap in the morning and there has been way too much bullcrap wafting from the folks who can't be content to just vote their preference...they seem to need to demonize those they don't agree with and try to grind them into dust. But thanks to you a tiny bit of fairness has been injected into the fray. Thank you for posting that clip.

Strange then you aren't repulsed by the vile and hate filled vitriole spewed forth by Obama friend and pastor, Jeremiah Wright, for 20 years?

True, we are Americans, and we should all be repulsed by people that don't seem to appreciate the country that has offered the greatest freedom and prosperity that any reasonable person could ever hope for. I am repulsed by someone that is so audacious and so crudely ignorant to suggest it all needs to be totally changed.

Are you referring to Wright, because it's unclear to me who you think wants "all to be totally changed". And for that matter, what do you mean by "all"

Sorry Okie, I didn't know we were talking about Rev. Wright. You are asking about the man that Obama denounced a while back for his radical statements? Would you like a list of everyone who I find repulsing because I do find more than the Rev. you mentioned to be a tad nuts. Just for starters Rev. Hagee, Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell (God rest his soul), Carl Rove and Ollie North of Iran Contra fame. I was responding to the Lorne Baxter fantasy, but let me know if you need anymore examples of twisted individuals in this thread I assumed was about Michelle Obama's patriotism. Oh, I almost forgot, I find child molesters vile as well, don't want anyone confused over where I stand.

In case you haven't heard of Hagee, he is the pastor that Sen. McCain pursued to endorse his run for the WH. Hagee is the loving Christian pastor who refers to the Catholic Church as the "Great Whore of Babylon". Apparently the Episcopalians, Lutherans and Methodists aren't on his list of acceptable religions either.

I believe in freedom of religion.....the sentiments that Hagee expressed are ugly and hateful and un-American...not the type of thing that Christ taught. Hagee isn't just offended by the Catholic Church, he doesn't have much use for the Lutherans either I am equally repulsed by vile remarks on Judism. I suppose I am offended because the remarks reveal a base ignorance of various religions and remind me of the Jim Jones-like sheep.

How about you, are you NOT offended because you think Catholic's ARE whores of Babylon????? Why don't you tell us all what Church you belong to so all of us can put your comments into perspective. Sound offensive?????? It should, it is offensive to box people in because of their faith. Perhaps you think Hagee is speaking truth to power,,,,,,,,, that's a hoot. Besides, wasn't this supposed to be a condemnation of Michelle Obama because her former pastor was Rev. Wright, or she hates America or some other trumped up bull crap for the knee jerk set.

Michael Richards Court Speech

Makes one stop and think after reading this :
Michael Richards is better known as Kramer from tv's Seinfeld series.

This was his defense speech in court after making racial comments in his comedy act.
He makes some very interesting points. He said :
I'm proud To Be White
Someone finally said it.
How many are actually paying attention to this ?
There are African Americans, Mexican Americans,
Asian Americans, Arab Americans, etc.
And then there are just Americans.
You pass me on the street and sneer in my direction.
You Call me 'White boy,' 'Cracker,' 'Honkey,'
'Whitey,' 'Caveman' ... and that's OK.

But when I call you, Nigger, Kike, Towel head,
Sand-nigger, Camel Jockey, Beaner , Gook, or Chink ...You call me a racist.
You say that whites commit a lot of violence against you,
so why are the ghettos the most dangerous places to live ?

You have the United Negro College Fund.
You have Martin Luther King Day.
You have Black History Month.
You have Cesar Chavez Day.
You have Yom Hashoah.
You have Ma'uled Al-Nabi.
You have the NAACP.
You have BET.
If we had WET (White Entertainment Television) we'd be racists.
If we had a White Pride Day, you would call us racists.
If we had White History Month , we'd be racists.
If we had any organization for only whites to 'advance'
OUR lives we'd be racists.
We have a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a Black Chamber of Commerce, and then we just have the plain Chamber of Commerce.
Wonder who pays for that ?
A white woman could not be in the Miss Black American pageant,
but any color can be in the Miss A merica pageant. If we had a college fund that only gave white students scholarships you know we'd be racists. There are over 60 openly proclaimed Black Colleges in the US . Yet if there were 'White colleges' THAT would be a racist college.

In the Million Man March, you believed that you were marching for your race and rights. If we marched for our race and rights,
you would call us racists. You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and orange, and you're not afraid to announce it.
But when we announce our white pride, you call us racists.

You rob us, carjack us, and shoot at us.

But , when a white police officer shoots a black gang member or
beats up a black drug-dealer running from the law and posing a
threat to society, you call him a racist.
I am proud.
But you call me a racist!
Why is it that only whites can be racists ?

No my dear simpleton, I am definitely for freedom of speech. But when someone utters hate speech, it doesn't mean I have to be impressed with the ulgy sentiment. You asked earlier why I didn't express revulsion regarding Rev. Wright, but I'm guessing you really aren't interested in discussion, I think you are trying to pick a fight. But back to freedom of Speech, I will defend the right of all racists and bigots to say whatever they want. Frankly, it's good to know who the nut jobs are.

Have you decided not to reveal the religion you adhere to????? I only ask because you seem to be interested in what Church I might belong to, assuming I belong to any Church.

Oh, I almost forgot, can I assume you believe in freedom of Speech as long as it doesn't come from Rev. Wright or Michelle Obama????? Or are you concerned with freedom of speech as it appears in this forum?

So far you have attacked anything that might be remotely connected to McCain while defending those connected to Obama which makes your words suspect.

I doubt you are for freedom of anything other then what ever your cause du jour is.

You attack hate speech while at the same time defending hate speech and you seem to be blind to your own hypocrisy in this regard.

I am Buddhist as I have mentioned more then once on these fora, and Hagee hasn't seemed to have a problem with us yet. But when he does, I will be sure to continue not carring what he has to say.
