Ok, I've been quiet for a while, mostly because of my main point of this thread was to show Diane love and good vibes.

However, at this point I must speak up -

People to some extent are posting on matters they have incorrect or incomplete information about. The person to listen to is Dys.

actually, the guy sounds burned out more than anything (in my limited knowledge of him). Either way, glad to see him go.

so anyway I got a list of no no's regarding Diane's diet but not much of anything regarding what she can/will eat. If anyone has any ideas about meals good for her that I can fix, I would appreciate it. I am sure she will tire of eating avocados and bran flakes.
And btw she is diabetic.

As long as you avoid the no-nos, probably the most important thing is to go slow with small amounts several times a day rather than a full meal. Does she like V-8 vegetable juices and other types of soups?

Dietary treatment consists of a low-fat diet. The following foods need to be avoided:

Full cream milk and any products made from full cream milk, such as full cream yoghurt and/or cream cheese

Cheeses, except fat-free cottage cheese

Biscuits, high-fat rolls or bread, pancakes, doughnuts, waffles, fritters, buttered popcorn, muffins, cakes, pies (sweet and savoury)

Ice cream, fatty desserts

More than one egg a day, and not more than four eggs per week (boil or poach to reduce fat intake)

No more than 25 g of fat or oil a day (five teaspoons or 2,5 tablespoons a day of polyunsaturated or monounsaturated margarine or oil or mayonnaise/salad dressing)

Fried or fatty meat or fish, sausages, poultry with skin (remove skin), smoked pork and ham, visible fat on meat, duck, goose, meat drippings and gravies made with drippings, fish canned in oil (rather use tuna canned in water or pilchards canned in tomato sauce), cold meats (except thinly sliced cooked beef or pork or poultry with all visible fat and skin removed)

No more than five nuts a day, or one teaspoon of peanut butter
Fatty or creamed soups

Chocolate and all chocolate-containing foods and desserts

Deep-fried potato chips, crisps, baked potatoes with sour cream, butter added to vegetables and potatoes, rich sauces added to vegetables, more than five small olives a day, more than 1/4 avocado a day

Seems that it is fat that needs to be avoided.

DYS- Keep her away from avacados!

According to this site (http://www.targetwoman.com/articles/gall-bladder-diet.html ) the gall bladder diet is low fat. Fluids and high fiber help. I have no idea if that site is any good, though.

I looked on WebMD and they didn't have much. Does your doctor have anything specific that she should and should not be eating? If we have a list we can build recipes from there. When you get a chance, of course.

Omms for Diane and dys.

Dys- Yeah- because of the potassium content. She probably would do well with dried apricots.

I bought a big bag of dried apricots. I am eating as many of the avocados as she is. I was trying to think of foods.meals she will like enough to actually eat them (no ice cream but she will scream)

Mrs Walter got some lectures from a dietician in the hospital - drives me somehow crazy re cooking. (Fruit definitely is a no-no - here, .... and re what happens afterwards if not obeying it.)

Would softly mashed potatoes with only chicken broth added---no butter be something she would like?

Walter, you seem to have strong recent experience in this. What were you cooking for Mrs. Walter in the days just before her surgery?

I'm thinking packaged vegetable broth - maybe with some little bit of rice added - might be good, but not sure re all the individual ingredients,

Here's a low fat GI diet, but it should be looked in view of what you already have as no-no's.

It says fruit is ok, except avocados, but I'd listen to Walter, and besides, she had a bad reaction to fruit yesterday, didn't she? and I think it was on one of your lists as a no.

Then it says ok, re avocado fat, but only a tablespoon or so. hmmm.

And, this doesn't cross relate to diabetes lists.

oss-- That site looks good. There is so much "snake oil" on the net, that I am glad you found this.

I'd like Walter to look it over, as his wife - well, you probably know this - has just had the same complications and he's the cook with a list from a dietician.

When Mr. P had his gallstone problem last spring, I used to puree his foods. It was much easier to for his system to handle. In a pinch dys, you could buy Diane some baby food. That would work.
