Okay.

(deep breaths, deep breaths)

So, is Diane home now? Has she eaten?
dear eva, my off the wall comments having nothing to do with you, you are nothing less than a sweetheart and I appreciate your kind words. Lady Diane is at home and resting (eating an avocado) and I am trying to feed her up for her surgery on monday. She is trying to stay awake to take her meds while I am just trying to stay awake. She ate some cottage cheese with fruit (the fruit did her in).I will do my best to get her to just chill tomorrow (she is a stubborn lady) she is relaxing and chatting endlessly with her son while I sit in the garage smoking cigs.

Catching up after a few days ...

What a distressing read! Doctors! Rolling Eyes

Eat up on the weekend, Diane, eat! Build yourself up! Be strong!

Soon this will all be over! (I fervently hope!)

Thinking of you Diane, and thinking of you Dys. You are the man on the spot, look after yourself, get some sleep, take it easy. Hang in there.

I have read every message on this thread, dys, and the thing that comes to my mind is this. Unless we have been where you have been, it is difficult to comprehend the stress and pain.

I am thinking right now of this beatitude.

"Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted."

Also, the lovely song by Thomas More, "Come ye disconsolate."

Thank God Diane has you.

Nobody doesn't not think you aren't doing enough to look after Diane.

And if they do, they're nuts.

See...I can be gnomic!

So...how you both going?

Dys--

No criticism of your tender care of Diane was intended. The world knows that you are a Perfect, Gentle Knight, skilled at cossetting and hand holding as well as being capable of hand-to-hand (or sword-to-sword or lance-to-lance) combat when needed for her defense.

She's a lucky woman.

Hold your dominion.

I don't understand the surgical switch not taking place immediately either, but trust that the surgeon knew what was best.

Oooommmmming 'til Monday and hoping everyone got a good nights rest.

It is silly remarks like this that have always prevented me from liking you.

Seriously though, everything I've read in this thread is telling me you're doing a terrific job. Don't even think about beating yourself up over things you may not have done. Diane is a lucky lady.

No doubt in my mind that you're doing all that you can, all that you should. Probably more than many would.

Stop talking meshuga.

(Hope you're remembering to take care of yourelf.)

I think that dys has been embroiled in one of those medical conundrums that can be so terribly frustrating.

I know that he is doing his damnedest in a situation that can be absolutely infruriating, especially to onlookers who feel both angry and helpless to ameliorate the situation.

Anyone can be a Monday morning quarterback. That does not take much skill. The point is that dys has done everything that is humanly possible, and the situation with the surgeons and the hospital appears promising.

All my good friends should have a partner as loving and caring as dys has been with Diane. Diane is a very lucky woman to have an advocate in dys!!! Very Happy

I know that this is not the place for this, and I apologize, but I did not know what to do.

Since yesterday afternoon, I cannot access the "New Posts" "At a Glance"
or "View Posts since last Visit". "At a Glance" only shows posts up to early yesterday afternooon. I can access and respond to threads from "Your Posts" and "Your Topics".

I wrote a thread on "Forum Help" which has gone unanswered. I wrote to the "Help Desk", and have not heard anything. At first the password did not work, but now it seems to be ok. I attempted to PM to one of the "powers-that-be" and the PM did not go through.

I know that a lot of people are looking at this thread. I hope that someone in authority sees this.

I apologize for writing this on Diane's thread, but I did not know what else to do.

Please don't add to this discussion, as I don't want to hijack this thread.
I really want it here in case someone who knows anything about it, and can do something about it, can see it. Thanks!

Ok so maybe I'm just confused but when the test results came in this morning it was noted that Lady Diane has an infection that must be clear for her surgery scheduled for this coming tuesday. She was given a prescription for anti-biotics that I went and picked at the local pharm. The instructions call for her to take 4 per day for ten days. I can only guess that this means the surgery will be postponed for at least another 10 days.

What it means, is that by the day of the infection, most if not all of the infection should be gone and your wife will have to stay on the meds for several days following the surgery.

By the way, shouldn't Diane be drinking broth and not fancy foods?

I really have a problem with the medical profession and this whole situation is just intolerable.

Now you know why they call it "The practice of medicine".

No, it's called THE ART AND PRACTICE OF MEDICINE...

I have asked all my Buddhist friends to chant for you.

Instead of chanting I pray that all individuals concerned with the care of this patient remember to WASH THEIR HANDS and try to maintain sterile conditions in the operating room.

So much for chanting!!

It sound to me that her doctor at first missed the severity of her illness? But it also sounds like things are on the right track now. Doctors are human. From what Dys has been posting it really sounds like her surgeon is taking all things into consideration.
The potasium and Vit K deficiency has been addressed. Were Diane's bleeding tests high? If so the Vit K will get her clotting factors back to a normal level to reduce her risk of bleeding too much during and after surgery.
The antibiotics...two fold...she showed signs of infection, probably an abnormal white blood count, and also with surgery of the bile tract this will reduce chance of post op infection.

Dys, I'm not a physician but work with some bile duct interventions. Is Diane making it through the weekend OK? If her pain gets intolerable before surgery has the surgeon mentioned putting an external drain into the biliary tree? What I know of this is that the drain will allow the bile to drain outside the body since the stones are blocking the tract. Just wanted to make sure you were aware of this option.
