Dys--

Good news.

By all means talk firmly to the Social Services people about adjusting the bill. If you were fully covered by insurance, the insurance company would be fighting mad by now. You can be just as firm as a corporation when you set your mind to it.

You two could have had a pleasant little trip for what Diane's fasting time in the hospital is going to cost.

Meanwhile, enjoy the weekend and the respite from medical matters.

What kidney stones? Went back. Didn't miss a post.

Now I'm really confused. I thought the stones in question were in Diane's gall bladder.

I think they are. Bear brought up kidney stones, and people since have been saying "what kidney stones...?"

I think Bear is willing to give Diane both his Medical Crises at once.

Generous man.

This is freakin' ridiculous! Evil or Very Mad

If I were in Albuquerque, I'd be stomping up and down the hospital corridors myself.

Trust me, NOBODY wants an angry goddess.

DAMMIT!

Nah, it can't be BOTH gall AND kidney stones; I'd rather be stoned in Saudi Arabia.

I'm pissed to, but I think it's best that we not make trouble for Diane. Dys will take care of things if anyone can. I can just see him driving his Porche right through the admissions door of the hospital.

Seriously, Dys, I'm just kidding.

This may not be a guideline to negotiations, but my last hospital stay was billed at something over $15,000.00. Co-pay was a thousand, insurance paid a bit over four. The balance was a "negotiated discount" between hospital and insurance company. In other words, they wrote off about half the bill.

Last year one of our under-insured neighbors had a botched hernia operation.

When confronted, the hospital swallowed the costs of the second operation.

Obviously they were afraid of being sued--and they should have been.

In spite of comments to the contrary, both myself and number 2 son are less than shy about confronting institutions about Diane's medical needs. Personally I think we have both done an excellent job.

Okay.

(deep breaths, deep breaths)

So, is Diane home now? Has she eaten?

If the bile duct backs up and it starts eating away at her pancreas... that's not good.
