(I'm a bit confused: did they or why didn't make a 'normal' surgery when they discovered the stones were to big? It was similar with Mrs Walter [I've posted the stones somewhere]], but those stones were just small enough - if not, they'd done it 'old style' instead. [Two anaesthetists and three surgeons were doing her operation.])

That is a good point, Walter. Six years ago when I had my gallbladder removed, they attempted laparascopy but then immediately switched to a large abdominal incision. When I awoke from anesthesia, they told me laparoscopy was not possible and they apologized for the large incision.

Walter- It is a sad commentary, but I have observed many instances where doctors were "off the mark". Over the years, it has made me very cynical about some physicians.

As a young person, I always thought that doctors were very wise people, who always did the best by their patients. I have learned, through personal experience, that there is plenty of incompetence in the medical profession.

I know that when I do find an exceptional doctor, I consider him/her to be like "gold"!

Phoenix, you are right, which I also know.

I also think Diane should not be charged for her surgery and additional days in the hospital. The doctors screwed up her care from the very beginning. Since Diane, in reality, does not have insurance to cover the costs of this malpractice, she should not have the burden of having to pay the costs of their mistakes.

I really have a problem with the medical profession and this whole situation is just intolerable.

Now you know why they call it "The practice of medicine".

I just talked with Lady Diane, she doesn't know why she is in the hosp nor the results of yesterday's procedure. When they transfered her from the G.I. unit to the main surgical unit her records didn't follow along so the staff in the surgical unit don't know why she is there. She is pretty coherent but extremely exhausted.
Hopefully either I or her will here this morning what the plans are. She seems more concerned about the cost of all this than anything else. also she is very hungry and demanded that I get her some candy. I just said NO.
Also, her Potassium level is very low.
And that's all I know at the moment.

Dys, important that they treat her low potassium immediately so her heart beat is protected!

BBB- Agree. Not controlling the potassium can be very dangerous for someone going under anaesthesia.

A don't know what kind of airheads there are in Diane's hospital, but if the situation were not so serious, it would be like a comedy of errors.

I just hope that dys has the strength to open his mouth and insist that the entire situation be straightened out. This is no time to be polite!

This is the first I've heard of Diane's plight. The stones were too big for laproscopy? Her potassium is "dangerously" low? (would a banana help and be permitted?) Her records have caught up with her? Ooooommmmmmmmmmm

little update; hosp has been giving Lady Diane something for the potassium (can't operate until that's corrected) will check her blood levels in one hour and if improving she will be discharged to home until she can be scheduled into the surgery (probably not till next week.) and while she is home she can EAT which no doubt thrills her. (she had only a dessert for lunch at the hosp)

Don't know what to say at this point.

Next week? Okey dokey.

Update: the surgical unit scheduled the abdominal operation for Thursday. The surgeon blew his top. Thus, surgery now scheduled for Monday a.m. Meantime, she's due to be released and will be at home for the weekend.

Dys told me he has confidence in the new surgeon and that he will fight for Diane's bests interests. I was so relieved to hear this. I was ready to pick up you, Dys and Matt and march into her room and raise bloody hell with the nursing and medical staff---even the hospital management.

Thanks for the update good news.

Thanks, osso, for the info. Monday. Good. Glad the surgeon blew his top.

Reeling a bit less, but still snarling.

I hope everything goes well.

For God's sake Dys. Make her eat a lot this weekend. Just remind her since she is already there for surgery she can always get a little bit of liposuction (if needed) at the same time.

Good grief!

Yes, I'm very glad for the top-blowing surgeon. Really helps if there's someone on the "inside" who can help.

Hope this is a restful weekend and that problems get SOLVED on Monday.

I am thankful for a couple of new things now... Duke and Chapel Hill. Jesus why don't you just get a medicine man to boil a cat and send it's bones downriver? I'm really sorry... kidney stones and gall bladder... God that must be painful
