Nobody should ever resign except for a better position with more cash and perks. It's weak.

One might be sacked or even fired but one does at least retain one's dignity.

He has no dignity left. He threw it all away in MN.

My whole point is that the dems want every repub that even MIGHT have done something wrong expelled, while they defend and support the dems that have either been convicted or indicted.

So,here is a simple question for all of you.

Should EVERYONE that has been indicted, convicted, pled guilty, or even has the "appearance of impropriety" be forced to resign?
If not, why not?

Please name the dems that have called for Craig to be expelled from the Senate. Your strawman is so ludicrous I don't see how you could even attempt to make it. It has been the GOP that has called for his resignation and filed the ethics complaint.

I know they did, but since he is a convicted criminal I dont think he should be allowed to hold public office.
Now,sisnce he was elected, does that forgive the crimes he committed before?
Does that excuse his bribery conviction or void his conviction?

Not in my eyes it doesnt.

Alcee Hastings is NOT a convicted criminal. He was found not guilty of the charge in his criminal trial.

Quote:
Alcee Hastings was impeached and convicted of taking a bribe.
That is a felony.
He should not be allowed to serve in the Congress.

I refer you to Article 1, Section 3 of the Constitution.

Art 1 Section 3 does NOT allow for it to be a felony when someone is impeached and removed from office. When the Senate removed Hastings they did not prevent him from holding other federal offices.

Cripes!! I just read the first post. Disorderly conduct in the bathroom!!

Good gracious- that's terrible. Makes Shock and Awe look like a picnic on the lawn at the vicarage. He should be run out of town on a pole for something that bad. He didn't light up anything did he?

I think his intent was to fly into town for a pole.

I guess some are just naive to some of the seedier aspects of the gay lifestyle. I have never heard of anyone making contact in a public restroom who intended on inviting the target to a hotel. I guess this means a fancy hotel? Four star, maybe? The idea is anonymous sex right there and then and for a good reason for someone like Craig. He does not want anyone to see his face. The pole (sic) is taken from underneath the divider in the restroom wall.

Does someone need an illustration?

Craig didn't have time to go to a hotel. Since there is no direct flight between DC and Idaho he always has a layover in Minneapolis.

I'm fairly certain this particular bathroom is in the secure area of the airport. It can only be frequented by people that have gone through security or have exited a flight.

I'm afraid it wouldn't be proper to draw a picture for this particular forum. It takes a bit of imagination but it's done all the time, of course depending on how high the opening is under the divider. It doesn't require a contortionist, let's put it that way. One individual can also leave his stall and enter the other stall. It's usually pretty quick. It is very tacky and I don't really like tacky.

Then there's the historic glory hole, but that was found in wooden stalls. They'd usually get blocked up as fast as they were made.

I am no legal expert, and I do think Craig should resign because he did plead guilty.

But,I think I found a loophole that might help him.
In Article 1, section 6 of the Constitution it says this...

Quote:
They shall in all Cases, except Treason, Felony and Breach of the Peace, be privileged from Arrest during their Attendance at the Session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same; and for any Speech or Debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other Place.

Now,since he was on his way to DC, and since he actually did cast a vote that night, couldnt he have his whole arrest declared null and void since it violates the Constitution?

Because according to this, they cant be arrested while going to or from DC.

mm - I take that to mean that he can't be arrested and jailed as it would keep him from his appointed duties. He was detained for questioning, but released. I suppose there would be a problem if they had detained him and caused him to miss a vote.

For those who think he wasn't going to have sex right then and there, I say Get Real! Rolling Eyes
If he wanted to meet someone to have a hotel tryst, then he could've sat in the bar and had a drink - or go wherever gays go to meet people legitimally in that airport.

Don't mean to belabor a point and I know it may sound dense to some but I just can't see that "under the divider" action that LW describes. I'm assuming, having never been in a mens' bathroom, that the stalls are set up the same as in womens' bathrooms and those dividers end only about a foot, at the most, from the floor. Now, I've got a pretty vivid imagination but I'm still not seeing two men doing the do, the way they do, under those circumstances. Oral, anal, I'm just not picturing it.

Somebody has to belly crawl or step out of one stall to enter the other... stall Smile Right?

Michael Huffington was making dates with males (several in government) through some way of contact which was really never detailed. Can't say if he ever visited one of those restrooms. Don't remember his stance on gay rights and he was never elected in California. Jim McGreevey established a same sex relationship and brought that person into the state government. He was, so to speak, being faithful to one sex at a time?

I do think some of the people don't believe it is adultery to have same sex relationships while married. That is, until they're reminded that it is.

Yesterday the Ethics Committee snubbed Craig now the senior Idaho Repub congressman, Mike Simpson, has asked Craig to make it clear he will resign by month end so they can get on with assigning a replacement.

Talk about delusional. That's like men in prison who have sex with other men but don't consider themselves gay. Or girls in college diddling around with their roommates. Rolling Eyes

Good. I'm glad they're pinning his lying ass to the wall instead of letting him seesaw like this.

I was not clear on Michael Huffington -- he was not elected Governor of California but he was a GOP congressman from California and is now active in the Log Cabin Republicans. Hmmm, wonder if he ever dated Andrew Sullivan? Sullivan's issue with the party has always been gay marriage, his being in favor of it.

I'd imagine it's that they establish a mutual desire to, um, connect via the footsie thing et al, then they open their respective stalls, take a look around, and both enter a single stall (with the luggage at the front, blocking the view). ?
