SHOULD SEN. LARRY CRAIG RESIGN?

I agree with happycat.

I don't have sex in public bathrooms-- not even with my wife. I don't feel I have the right to have sex in public bathrooms.

The word public means you share it with the people around you... and requesting that people don't have sex in public areas seems reasonable.

There is no need for a bathroom guard... but if a police officer catches you... a public obscenity charge is warranted.

That is all we are saying.

Maybe next time he should be sure to go to the cubicle with the little holes in the divider.

I think there's a pretty well-understood difference between a public bathroom and a private office, btw.

Neither is appropriate, but going in your office and locking the door is a little different then getting it on in a stall, while everyone is doing their business.

I'm wondering if some of the women here understand what a breach of men's bathroom etiquette this is - in a mens' room, you don't look at other men, you don't talk to them, you pretend they don't exist - and you certainly would never touch another man. Ever. The very thought of violating public bathroom etiquette is mildly revolting.

Thank you ebrown and Cycloptichorn.

mame, would you not be a bit taken aback if you walked into a public ladies room at a mall with your mom/sister/daughter/friend to find two women in one stall - with the stall door closed - pants down and moaning?

Would you just pee, wash your hands and apply your lip gloss and walk out? What would you say to that little 8 year old girl that happened to walk in right behind you?

I'm just curious how you would react to that. Would you just pull up your big girl panties and deal with it?

Well, this guy was wanting to touch another man, revolting or not. I'm not saying I approve of his actions, of course, regarding his choice of venue. What I was commenting on was what to do about it. Should he resign? I don't know. Is it really that big of deal in this day and age where all sorts of disgusting things go on? I'm sure his party and his constituents will take care of things.

I mean, you have the President of the United States committing adultery basically in the public eye, then you have this guy approaching an undercover cop for sex in a public bathroom... it's all disgusting behaviour, and no I wouldn't vote for either of them, but none of this is new, is it? And is it any worse than the police bungling the OJ trial so a murderer runs free?

Let's just put it in perspective. The senator was trying to scratch an itch, doing no real harm to anyone else. I'm presuming moved to a locked stall, or was he negotiating to do it elsewhere?

Yes, of course he should be charged.

Clinton did not have sex in the publc eye. He had it in the Oval Office where I'm sure it's happened often since the cornerstone was laid.
No one would have known about it if Monica had kept her big mouth shut afterward.

It also doesn't matter that it's a US Senator in this case EXCEPT that this is a guy that's been known to vote against gay rights.

Comparing Clinton to Craig is like apples and oranges.

Sorry, but who cares if he's a two-faced liar? Isn't that the least of the problem?

And to answer your question, if I walked in on that, I'd walk out. If I ran across a cop or a security guard, I'd inform them. What would you expect me to do?

So, the men should be allowed to scratch their itches in the public men's
room, but you'd expect a mall security guard to act as a "bathroom guard" if it happened where you pee.

Essentially you're saying that as long as it doesn't happen in your
neighborhood (the ladies' room) it's ok.
Ahhh, I get it now.

No, that's not what I said. I don't happen to frequent men's bathrooms. If I did, I'd do the same thing, walk out and if I saw a copy or a guard, I'd inform them.

happycat- I would have been less upset if Clinton had taken Monica to a hotel and screwed her there. To me, the Oval Office is one of the most public places in the United States, even if the door were closed. It symbolizes the OFFICE of the presidency. To me, getting a blowjob in the Oval Office is an affront to the office of the presidency, over and above the actions of any particular individual.

It's the basic equivalent of exactly what happened.

I don't think it's wrong for Craig to solict gay sex (though he is a liar and a hypocrite), but it is wrong to do it in such a public place. Given the powers he has been vested with by his constituents, he has an even greater responsibility not to do such things...

yep, I agree with that too.

phoenix - The Oval Office is not a public place in any sense. It is probably The most private of offices in the world! It's not open to the public and what goes on inside it is not open for public knowledge.
I understand what you mean though; that it's a historically patriotic sacred place.
But in reality, the same things go on in there that go on in any office.

There is a hell of a lot of difference between cheating on your wife and getting a blow job and soliciting sex in a public toilet.

oh......?

last I looked, stalls in restrooms have locks on the door.

What's the diff between getting a blow job behind the locked oval office door with any number of secret service knowing what's going on 5 feet away (if indeed anyone bothered to lock the door) and then lying to the world about it (and a blow job is sex)....and getting blown behind a locked stall door?

Oh...someone could see 2 sets of feet?
Well then, someone could've stood or kneeled on the seat.

The main difference I can see is that one of the places is more likely to smell like ****.

Let me repeat myself: A CHILD COULD HAVE WALKED IN AT ANY TIME!

If it had been a men's room at a nightclub or bar where there are usually only adults, then BLOW AWAY!
But I'll be damned if I want my kid or any other kid to walk in to take a piss and hear some guy in the next stall getting off in another guy's mouth.

Is that plain enough for ya Chai?

I'm glad you're talking plain and not beating around the bush, thanks. I wish there was more of that around here. Seriously

A mens room in a night club or bar is a public restroom too....there is a chance, albeit smaller, a child could walk in.

Here's plain talk...you can give or get a blow job or have other types of sex, and be quiet about it. I know.

Also, how do we know when someone is playing nudgey nudgey with his foot to get the other guy to go with him back to his private hotel, or back of his car or something? Sex didn't take place, so who know where anybody intended to have it.

I'm not saying what he may/may not have done wasn't gross. I'm saying it's no ones business and he shouldn't be fired over it.

If he played footsie with a woman...nudge nudge, with the intent to have sex with her up in his hotel room, shoud he get fired? What if he lied to the press about him making sexual advances toward a woman with his foot, with the intent to someplace else.

Why is anyone assuming Craig wanted sex to take place there?

Well, then it shouldn't bother anyone else, since no one is going to look at them, and pretend nothing is going on.

Chai - I never said he should lose his job. The Idaho voters will take care of that one way or the other.

I'm just so sick of the hypocrisy. It's the same story over and over!
Politicians who vote against certain rights, or speak out against something, only to be found partaking in that very thing later on.

Then you have the family that has to deal with the betrayal and media onslaught. The wife that invariably stands by with that quivery smile, only to later write a book and be a guest on Oprah.

First of all I don't give a rat's ass who Craig has sex (adult) with (nor Clinton) Second of all is that it is the Republicans that are going bonkers over Craig probably because they have had one episode after another of "Public" failed family values in recent times and seem to be pretty sure their christian base will not be so friendly in the voting booth next year. Third, I've never had sex of any sort in a public restroom and I'm wondering just how common this is (other than airplane restrooms)

From the report:

"According to a police report obtained by the Capitol Hill newspaper Roll Call, which disclosed the episode and the guilty plea Monday, a plainclothes police officer investigating complaints of sexual activity in the bathroom arrested the senator on June 11 after what the officer described as sexual advances made by Mr. Craig from an adjoining stall."

So, he was in the next stall and possibly made advances, but there was no sex going on, so why the hell are we talking about him having sex in a public restroom for?

In most office buildings I've worked in, it's been reasonably common knowledge which washrooms were for male cruising, and which ones weren't. Nothing really unusual about it.
