"Tank McNamara", a comic strip with a sports sensibility (and generally astute satire) recently ran some strips on the idea of a show called "Sports Eye for the Queer Guy". The idea was a gay guy who is tired of being obsessed with grooming and clothes who enlists the help of four overweight, straight couch potatoes. They dump his David Hockney prints, sign him for the big NFL TV package, and buy him sweat shirts. Clever, it was...

How long ago did that appear because Jay Leno used the line about a what straight men could teach a gay guy. He pauses trying to think of something and then says, "We could teach him how to watch sports!"

Anyway, role reversals are always going to be funny. I'm just wondering if they will ever trick (six) the Fab Five and give them a gay guy acting straight like in "Boy Meets Boy," which inadvertantly came off as mean spirited ( I believe every gay men has had a crush on a straight man before and realized the mistake they made.)
It would point out something that came up immediately here -- that not all gays are groomed and have exquisite taste.

The "Tank" strip ran last week. I hope they don't put a gay guy in the straight guy role, because if the show became mean-spirited, it would lose its appeal, IMHO. Besides, they wouldn't try to fake out their stars, would they?

If without their knowing it they were making over a sloppy gay guy? I don't think that will ever happen. I thought it did become rather mean spirited in the other show even if the idea was to erase stereotypes. It was actually a rather cruel way to test gaydar. It was obvious -- the straight guy would not do a lip lock of the final three.

Will and Grace has done that. (Straight guy teaching gay guys about watching sports. And walking.) I've seen variations of that elsewhere. "In and Out." That's why QE is cool, is because it inverts that whole thing. Gay guys have been forever trying to learn how to pass -- now it's the other way 'round.

Btw, I knew Franklin was the straight guy from a mile away. He was so sweet at the end, though... I felt sad for him. He looked just crushed.

I was about 90% right on the gay/ straight. (That one guy, Dan, totally fooled me.)

Learning how to pass is one thing but learning how to make a pass is another. I don't know how many know that is is virtually the same so who would be teaching who? I guess the gay guys could teach the straight guys how to be more subtle with their passes.

Dan fooled me too, sozobe, but the gaydar sure worked there. The one straight guy, Franklin, that was left was quiet and sensitive and that's another stereotype. I thought he was going to cry when he tried to explain why he was motivated to be on the show as he was really read off.

I think the show demonstrates that the gay is far far superior to the boring and narrow minded straight guy.

The gay guys are much more interesting, vital, smart, and, yes, better looking.

It is time this country turned around and found its true direction.

I think gay men as holders of taste is something of a myth. Yeah, most gay men dress better than most straight men (I used to subscribe to match.com. I once went through, for the sake of comparison, the list of women my age -- 56 -- in a 10 mile area radius and found most of them looked pretty good. True, most of them dyed their hair but looking at the guys the same age in the same area, only a few even bothered to comb their's!!), but we all some gay men who have lousy taste.

True to an extent, plainoldme -- there are gay men who have no taste. They are likely in the minority, however. Most of the fashion and interior design fields are predominantly gay men. As to Joe Everybody Gay Guy -- they may be trying to look straight by looking sloppy. It's a possible ploy for attracting other men. That's why one can't be sure! (Well, until some of them start speaking Laughing ). It also is confusing to women although if they are urbane enough, they have a well developed gaydar.

Yes, well, enough about all of you!

I'm concerned that I have developed quite the crush on 2 of the gay guys...such a fate, always attracted to the unattainable <sigh>.

However, I have submitted a request to the producers of the show to have "Straight Suzette for the Queer Eye"...and await reply Twisted Evil Cool .

Oh, dear, I didn't make myself clear; sorry.

I want them to dress me, cook for my guests, make a home out of my house and, of course, I want to kiss the 2 I have crushes on Embarrassed .

My favorite is the guy who does the apt/house make-overs and my other crush is the one who shows the straight guys how to shave and so forth. I like them all; there's just something extra about those 2 (for me).

Now that you mention it, I do tend to be attracted to dark hair, but I certainly make exceptions for cute little blue fuzzy guys!

One more time, LW: they will be dressing me; not the other way around. I have no sense of style. "All substance, no style." But now that I'm all growed up, I guess I have to pretend to know how to dress <sigh>.
