What Bush says doesn't mean anything; most times it's not backed by any strategy or facts. Bush's so-called "judgement" is a laugher; he's never done anything right during his eight years in office.

That you wish to give "credit" to Bush for saying "A fixed timetable for withdrawal, in my judgement, means defeat." only tells us that he doesn't know how to set goals for winning. He has never delineated what "win" means in Iraq. Without knowing what "win" is, his use of "defeat" means absolutely nothing.

Go cry me a river, ci, but try as you might, Bush is the one man that deserves credit for winning this war, if we indeed win, and it looks like we are. Don't credit Obama for anything, he did nothing in regard to Iraq, and never will. You libs gave up long ago on winning, in fact you wanted to lose, and still do, until Obama takes office, then you will want to win. You are so predictable and I might add, pathetic.

@okie,
How one can figure Bush won a war that's still on-going, and that have cost over 4,000 of our military, and ten billion dollars every month shows how out of touch you are with reality.

The USA military must leave Iraq when the Iraq government, the government Bush helped establish, tells it to leave. The Iraq government has told it to leave by December 31, 2011. That is the Iraq government's time table that Bush agreed to follow. It is not a time table set by Bush.

"Looks like" is nothing near "won."

@cicerone imposter,
ci, we are winning, not completely won forever, but do you ever expect to have terrorist organizations sign a peace treaty, do you?

I didn't get them from your brain, because it apparently isn't capable of it, LOL.

Its only a stupid question to you, ci. Tell me, what war will ever be over according to you and the terrorist organizations? Can you ever win a war that is never over, ci? When will the Gitmo prisoners go home, if they are held until the war is over? When will Osama Bin Laden sign a peace treaty? Think hard, ci, the questions are pertinent.

Your life must be mighty dull, to stay up for the shear enjoyment of calling other people idiots, ci. Is it that enjoyable? Go check your investments for a change.

The only reason why people say we are winning in Iraq is because the situation has improved somewhat since 2006-2007. However, the situation there is not what the creators of the Iraq war would have wanted. There is still too much violence between the Kurds, Sunnis and Shiites and they still do not get along good enough to have a viable country without a lot of work on their part. The living conditions are as bad as any third world country. We have succeeded in rooting out a good deal of AQI (which was never that high to begin with) but they have simply left to relocate in Pakistan and other surrounding areas. The Kurds, Sunnis and Shiites do not pose a threat to us since the Sunni insurgents who used to be aligned with AQI have turned against them. The remaining problem of the factions not getting along can't be solved by us so we may as well start to withdraw from Iraq and concentrate on those others areas that do pose a threat to us. They want us to and it is better for us as a country to do so.

Iraqi council gives final approval to pact with US

Quote:
BAGHDAD " Iraq's three-member presidential council on Thursday approved a security pact with the United States that sets out a three-year timeframe for the full withdrawal of American troops, a spokesman said.

The panel's approval was the final step for the agreement, which replaces a U.N. mandate that expires on Dec. 31.

@revel,
At least it now sets a fixed timetable for our withdrawal - whether we "win" or not. It's up to the Iraqis to secure their own country through the political process; wars only exacerbates the problems that existed before our invasion.

Suicide blasts kill 17 as Iraqi council OKs pact

By ROBERT H. REID, Associated Press Writer Robert H. Reid, Associated Press Writer " 1 hr 15 mins ago

BAGHDAD " Suicide bombers killed 17 people " including two American soldiers " and wounded more than 100 in a string of blasts in two Iraqi cities Thursday as a timetable for withdrawing all U.S. troops won final government approval.

The brazen attacks in areas where the U.S. military has struggled for years to maintain order raised questions about Iraq's ability to ensure its own security as the U.S. scales down its own combat role under the newly ratified U.S.-Iraqi security pact, which calls for an American withdrawal within three years.

Iraq's three-member presidential council signed off on the pact Thursday, removing the last legal barrier so that the agreement can take effect Jan. 1.

The USA invasion of Iraq and the subsequent war effort there has greatly simplified the problems that existed in Iraq before its invasion.

@hamburger,
A complete "slide show" of Iraq before our invasion of Iraq of March 20, 2003 and after our agreement with the Iraq government as of December 1, 2008, will be needed.

@McTag,
You'll have to forgive ican't for not remembering simple facts like almost all the Iraqi professionals have left Iraq. That certainly has "simplified" the problems has has existed before the invasion; no doctors, no lawyers, no accountants, no engineers...

No lawyers... How is that bad? That would mean less lawsuits and silly laws
No doctors...means no malpractice suits and lowers medical insurance premiums.

No accountants...means no tax problems

No engineers...like the engineers that built the bridge in Minneapolis, or the engineers that built the "unsinkable" Titanic, or the engineers that built the Ford Pinto?
How is that bad?

(BTW, I say all of that with my tongue firmly in my cheek)
