I find the concept of the borders being "flung open" to be fascinating. For the last six years, we've had the Shrub's administration--so perhaps this refers to the Shrub flinging the borders open.

Then again, the last significant immigration legislation was the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986--Reagan administration there.

So, the question becomes, which rightwing dimwit in the White House is responsible for "flinging" the borders open?

It wasn't new to Bush but he certainly hasn't done anything to stem the flow of diseased illegal immigrants either.

In the last 20 years, we've had eight years of Democratic administration, and 12 years of Republicans; in the last 30 years, we've had 12 years of Democrats, and 18 years of Republicans; in the last 40 years, we've had 14 years of Democratic administration, and 26 years Republicans. Any way you cut it, the Republicans have a miserable track record.

But wait--could it be . . . just possibly . . . that money talks while bullshit walks, and the money that talks here is employers who benefit from illegal immigration?

& I trust we won't be honored by your presence anytime soon? Um, would you mind sendibg back at least the tax $$ it has cost me to help keep your country afloat. thanks.

Feel free to post the exact location of your dwelling, so that I can avoid your proximity on my next visit to the US. I'd be very pleased to do so, you don't have to thank me.

And I'm afraid we have to keep your tax €€ as compensation. Sorry.

I have no worries of you visiting anywhere near where I live, we don't tolerate your kind too well.

No. I don't believe that there is any significant incidence of polio in the US.

I think that there are practically no cases of polio contracted in the US (meaning that immigration does not present a risk of polio to Americans). I did a bit of googling and found absolutely nothing to indicate that immigration of any kind presents a polio risk to Americans.

If you have any data to to contrary, I would love to see it.

You're wrong.

ebrown, I think you acted badly on the train. Ms. Manners, and any other student of acceptable behavior, would have frowned on your harsh response. You should have held back the expression of your negative views and tried to draw out the woman on her's. (Who knows, this may have led to an enjoyable tryst, or at least a nice new friendship.)

I think all of us have too freely expressed our views to those on the opposite political spectrum, and have regretted it. We should instead employ humor and questions as a means to keep the conversation somewhat pleasurable and avoid bad feelings.

Well put Advocate... and perhaps you are right. Fortunately I am not looking for a tryst (even an enjoyable one) right now.

But, I have the right to be grumpy when I feel like it, and Buchanan puts me in a very bad mood.

BTW, may I recommend "How to Talk to a Liberal If You Must," for your next reading selection.

Never mind. You might shoot the poor lady like Set is advocating.

That is wrong.
This is a part of the same gov't that gives some other glowing reports that I'm sure you, at the very least, find questionable.

Leprosy in the US
Quote:
In 2002, 96 cases occurring in the United States were reported to CDC.

Quote:
Trends Prevalence has remained relatively stable in the United States. Decreasing numbers of cases worldwide with pockets of high prevalence in certain countries.

Imported Lebrosy, an epidemic from 1978-1988

Quote:
The number of imported cases reported annually was relatively constant from 1971 through 1977 (mean = 119 per year), increased to 307 in 1985, and then decreased to 102 in 1988. Of the 957 excess cases reported from 1978 through 1988, 73.4% were among persons from Southeast Asia, including 51.3% from Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos (Indochina). There was no coincident increase in indigenous cases of leprosy; the mean annual number of such cases was 17.7 (range = 10 to 29).

Leprosy was never eliminated from the US. Present cases in the US are less than they were in the 70s.
