The World According To Jimmy Carter

Anyone have links to images of maps from both books for side-by-side comparisons?

All I've seen are textual accusations. No one has published the evidence for readers to see for themselves.

This leads me to agree with what was said earlier about it being a gimick to boost sagging book sales and a chance to smite Carter with nonsense. Until such side-by-side comparison is available, I'll not change my mind about the accusors.

And, no. I have no desire to go out to a bookstore and do my own comparison with their books. The accusations were public, so should be the comparisons.

Oh, I see, well, I KNOW the US is the best of what there is. That should clear up any erroneous thinking about my opinion of the US.

I'm sure it IS the best place for you, LSM, and probably for me (though I'm still open to other options). But without a defined criteria it is impossible to say what "best" even means let alone which country deserves the title.

The US falls way down in the Best Place To Live scale.

Lonestarmadam, could you explain your comment? I didn't claim to be a proof reader nor expert. What the heck are you referring to?

Silly or not, in your opinion makes no difference, if jimmah stole anothers copyrighted work, he's a weasel & will be found out.

I generally don't choose politicians as my "heroes", LSM, but I do have some regard for Jimmy Carter. I'm sure The Stolen Maps Incident will sort itself out to everyone's satisfaction. Sorry, but I just don't see it as the huge deal that you do. I can think of many far more weasely acts by politicians than that!

What do you find endearing about jimmah? What did he do as president? He has overseen some homes built, or he lent his name to the projects, but that's about all he ahs done except muck stuff up.

You really want to know? Well, speaking as someone who lives somewhere other than the US, he has always seemed to me to have integrity as a politician (Great Map Theft Incident aside!) You know, for us folks who live in otherparts of the planet, it was somehow comforting to have a US president who took the rest of the world seriously. He seemed genuine. We sort of liked that! Looking at the record of the present government, it's rather of a case of you don't know what you've got till it's gone.

I've never heard him called "jima" before, either. Where does that come from? Sounds rather offensive to me, but what would I know?

I lived in Madrid during Jimmah's presidency, let me tell you, he did not impress the Spanish govt nor did he impress most Americans that we came in contact with. So your idea of him as the president differs greatly from what his presidency actually was, that's why he got 4 years & not a second chance to show what other damage he was capable of.

Hey, LSM, I'm comparing his presidency to NOW!
This makes him look like an absolute genius!

Freeduck, thanks for the links. After viewing what was there, I'm going to go to a bookstore after all and look at the books for myself.

I've looked at maps from the CIA's World Fact site, the UN's site and several Israel map sites and they all look very similar in general shape and content with differences being in the shape of the water areas and the labels of different font styles and sizes.

This goes back to a question I posed earlier. If you trace a map of a geographic area and then add your own embelishments to it, is it your copyrighted map? If someone else does the same thing and adds a different set of embelishments, are they infringing upon your copyrighted map or using the same original source you did? Which do they cite as their source, the original map source they traced, or your embellished map, or both?

LSM, I see you make no distinction between your opinion and objective facts on a given issue.

It would be wonderful to think that you held an informed opinion, that you reached your opinion by checking the facts - or, if you didn't, that you would present your opinion clearly marked as such, maybe by saying "In my opinion".

However, you don't seem to be inclined to do this, and I'm not inclined to discuss on this level. Thanks for answering my posts, though.

In due respect OE, do you wish to be held personally to the standard you just imposed on LSM? Do you wish every subjective observation you make or every opinion you express to have to be prefaced by 'in my opinion'? Or perhaps among friends some things are just a given and we can express what we observe, think, feel, or believe without having to hunt up some sort of link on the internet to prove it or preface every sentence with IMO.

I, like MSM, believe the United States is the best place in the world to live. That is why I live here instead of someplace else. I feel sorry for anybody who doesn't think he or she lives in the best place in the world to live. I think anybody who doesn't think that should go to another place that suits them better. The USA would certainly be better off if everybody who thinks the USA sucks would just leave. You don't see many leaving here, however, and you see many millions sneaking in and many millions more who would rather be here than where they are.

If you make a statement that most Americans think this or think that, I certainly might ask you for some objective evidence of that. But a statement affirming a personal preference I think we can let slide without corrupting the integrity of the forum.

Rosalind pronounces Jimmy, Jimmah. It isn't offensive, she has a deep southern accent, as do I.
I still ask, what did you finde endearing about him, what did he do as president that you give him such alcolades?

Generally, yes, I wish to be held to this standard. I would at least clarify my point after someone asks my about it, and make clear whether I was just stating my opinion, or citing facts and would probably provide links for that.

On most issues, I do give an opinion, on the USA, it is still my opinion & my opinion is that it is the best of what there is.
I'm sorry if that offends you, but I'm sure you're not nearly as offended by my opinion of the US as I am of your It would be wonderful to think that you held an informed opinion. Is that your opinion? Rolling Eyes
