Dear Diary - well it kind of went this way - I went to Mexico on a mission trip towards the end of June had a wound (cut) on one leg from brushing it somewhere and it started weeping plasma. In Mexcio I got 6 mosquito bites on my ankle and lower leg and they went bad and started weeping also but all told it was pretty nasty I guess - then about July 9th or so I went on a 3 day retreat "Walk to Emmaus" and things went all bad - well south. A Doc there saw my legs and went nuts - like I was gunna loose them in just about anyday, giving me this iceburg type senario - most damage was below the skin - said get to the emergency room. Next day went to my GP I though they looked like they were getting better but GP said I want to to see a Vascular Surgeon ASAP. - yikes!! Went to Surgeon and yikes went on massive drugs and wound treatment clinic since (like every couple days) - $300.00 for bandages and $50.00 for this protective type stuff I rub on the other parts of me legs every day, and the bunch of other meds added onto the 3 or 4 I already take.
Today is the ultrasound to look at real damage and see about repairs internally(healed enought I guess). Then last week I had the six day migraine that the emergency room could not even fix so I spent 2 1/2 more days in a codeine fog. Well thats the short of it. Just getting back to internet a little. been kind of a blur. Gunna be trying to work at home but something is all messed with up my system and sleeping and nitemares, I also spend about 4 hours a day laying on by back with my feet up on the couch (reverse couch sitting). Every days runs into the other and no seperation - I can hardly remember if it's Monday or Wednesday. If this is any where near retirement I don't even want ot get close to it. My vision has also seemed to have deteriated a great deal in the past month. On top of that stuff 2 days ago I had to go in for my 6 month mammogram and ultrasound - the mass has grown but they say no problem, that visit to the clinic was extreemly hard on my legs and knees. Well it's time to go invert some more - I'll be around more I think.
oh one more thought - only worked 4 days since about June 24th - can that me true Sad Sad Sad

That's hard stuff Husker ... It can only get better, hang in there!
Don't be hard on yourself and give it all the time that it takes, whatever it takes.

Maybe you can enjoy lazing around the house while you have the chance ... Got any reading to catch up on?

Husker? I can hardly believe it... you're like, you're like Job, for Pete's sake. And here I was thinking you'd forsaken us for some other forum, maybe from Mexico. Learned to speak and write in Spanish so well that you didn't need your a2k friends anymore.

I am so sad to hear about the real life scenario. It sounds awful, truly awful. Damage below the surface of the skin? Is that what you mean??? From infections? Hope that you're on the mend now. The migraine was just a sidelight, I hope, and not connected except to the codeine (nasty stuff). Be well soon.

<Gentle hugs, being careful not to squeeze too hard.>

Please do what you can to heal and feel better...we're holding the fort on this end...and let us know if there is anyting we can do for you as well.

All my best buddy!

Oh wow. My son at age 3, had a tiny bit of cellulitis and he was hospitalized for two days, hooked up to an antibiotic drip and all sorts of stuff. The emergency doctors didn't fool around with it at all. We took him in for a fever, as it happened, on Thanksgiving Day... an event to remember. His dad stayed with him, I had to go back with our daughter and take care of the turkey which had been left cooking. We had no idea that the fever & the little red spot were related or that we'd go any farther than the local urgent care clinic.

Good Luck to you, Husker. Stay in touch and keep those legs elevated!

I s'pose I can't add anything that hasn't already been said, so I'll just reiterate: Take care of yourself so you can come back 100%!

Thanks one and all for your thoughts and prayers.
Seemed like some great comments yesterday after the scantech - so I cannot wait until the meeting with the Doc next week.

We went to San Cipriano this weekend. It's a crystal clear river in the jungle almost at the end of the highway that pases Kilometro 18. It's two and a half hours by bus and about ten miles before you get to the outskirts of Buenaventura. From the parking area you have to ride on a really little wooden cart called a "brujita" set on the railroad tracks for six kilometers with a "gondolear" poling you along, four people sqeezed on and keep your feet up since it wizzes along at about 30mph on the downhill slopes. At the end of the line is a little jungle pueblo ranged along a moss covered oil pipeline where you can rent truck type inner tubes for five thousand pesos. You hike another kilometer or two down the pipeline to where it's convenient to put the tubes in. A short cut involves walking on top of the oil pipe for about fifty feet crossing a ravine. Better have good balance, the ravine is kind of deep and the pipe is slippery with moss. The river is great. A sign says at some points it's over ten meters deep, hard to believe but so clear I could almost always still see the bottom. There are some fast moving stretches of rapids that are fun but you better keep your arse up to avoid getting womped by the rocks (which happened to my wife who is now dead set against such outings...at least for the moment, but she recovers quickly and needs to get toughened up anyway for our upcoming trip around Peru).

You can overnight at a couple of "hotels" in the village too but they're barebones basic, little cubicles made of wooden slats with a bed and one bathroom for everybody. Not reccomended for the sqeemish. As always bring your own "papel higenico".

San Cipriano is quite a tourist destination on weekends and pretty safe since the area is controlled by the paramilitarys (many of the men you see in the village are weekday warriors I was told). Among other things they protect the pipeline. Mid week though is a different story and not a good time for a foreigner to be in the jungle there. The same goes for the highway as mid week is when the guerrilla sometimes make trouble on it setting up temporary roadblocks to see what they can catch then clearing out just before the army comes along.
