It's amazing how some people don't know. Have you followed the entire organic certification process? Do you buy only organic? I take it you've seen the increase in interest in mainstream stores and not just specialty. If not, that's understandable.

The US government collects $7 000 000 000 a year in taxes from illegal immigrants. Something to think about?

That's an interesting nugget, care to share your source?

I wonder how much hamburger is willing to have his local ER closed, your kids class rooms more crowded, health & auto insurance rising, higher crime rates, the list goes on.

Here's some help in the event you are actually interested in an answer:

Locally grown produce

The bottom line is if you can read, you can buy local produce.

When it comes to replacing illegals in the work force, we have plenty of people who don't work that are citizens. If they want any type of care from the US govt, then they should be made to pick up the load and help society. If they don't want to work then start taking away some of the govt freebies that they receive.

The work force would be hurt in the begining but after a short period of time it will all balance out.

HALLEJUAH!!!!!!!!!!
I don't know about made to work but sure agree with the gov't freebies, if they want to eat, they'll work. I realize that we have people that truly need help & I'm not including them in my want to eat, they'll work comment.

I owe the thank you to McG.

I had difficulty posting the link, big deal. Now, what were you saying about my buying locally? I take it you buy anything regardless of it's origin, since this is all news to you, correct?

I buy what I want irregardless of where it comes from. Much of our car, clothes and electronics come from many countries. "Buy American" is ignorance at its peak.

I'm not about to switch gears and talk about those things you now mention, just my example of certified organic locally grown food that you impied I couldn't possibly know about correct?. Your attempt to belittle me failed, and you're trying to save this by changing direction.

My claim was if you can read, you can buy local produce.

What LB wrote: I choose to buy those grown in the United States. With increased interest in organic fruits and vegetables, it is my hope that the United States regain their footing and continue to focus their efforts in this area.

I think it may take a while for other countries to meet our organic certification standards.

Really? As far as I know, they even don't reach the really low EU-standards (most [old] EU-countries have higher national standards than by EU-law - however, this might change Crying or Very sad ).

Quote:
From the perspective of many EU countries, organic agriculture delivers environmental and social benefits to society, and is regarded as an infant industry requiring support until it is able to compete in established markets. This view of organic farming as a provider of public goods affords an economic rationale for government intervention in the market.

The U.S. Government's approach, while acknowledging organic agriculture's positive impact on environmental quality, treats the organic sector primarily as an expanding market opportunity for producers and regards organic food as a differentiated product available to consumers.

[...]
... in 2003, the EU had over five times the amount of organic farmland as the U.S., while the U.S. had three times as much total agricultural land.

I'm going to agree with c.i. because I think he's talking about suppliers to the U.S. of organic produce. The U.S. doesn't import a lot of produce from overseas (I'm not saying we don't import any), rather, our growing cycle is from the southern tip of Chile to the north of British Columbia. They've got the process so well down now that we can purchase asparagus in December for a price only about twice what it is when grown locally in early summer.

Lots of illegal drugs too, & I think they're organic. It's time to stop the invasion.
