Don't you hold back now, Setanta - you will do yourself an injury!
psssssssst Montana - don't be telling them how good it is here. it's supposed to be our happy little secret.
So, Au, you've convicted the alleged snipers in advance of the jury?
Lynch mob, anyone?
It'll be bring your own, of course, coarse hempen rope will be provided . . .
I imagine the Old Testament was fairly advanced for its day in some ways...
Presuming the alleged snipers are guilty before the trial even begins is exactly why we shouldn't have capital punishment. It's those gut feelings--these guys must be so bad that they deserve to die--that inspire so many people to favor the death penalty.
It may feel good, but it ain't justice...

No I am willing to wait for the Jury verdict and than it's to the nearest lamp post. I am sure that is what you want to hear. I should note there is no question of their guilt.
Well, i'm sure we all hope that she is . . .

Great. 8-tracks were advanced in the '70s, but I ain't going back.
(psst - ehbeth, don't worry: i don't care how great everything else is, the weather sucks...)
Only if you're enjoying yourself.

CodeBorg wrote:I've read the piece about the Saudi executioner several times now, and I'm still puzzled as to why it was posted. Are there people who think it reflects badly on the Saudi people? How? The title of our thread implies something bad is occurring, so could I get some information about what kind of comparison is asked for here?
Is there something repulsive about using a sword instead of a gun?
Or is it that sentencing involves religion as well as government?
Or are we expected to react that women are executed too, and not just men?
Or that like any trade, there are apprentices and trainees?
What are we supposed to be reacting to? Honestly.
McGentrix, et al -- What atrocities do you see in Saudi Arabia, if any?
How did you react to the article?
Mind yerself, Montana, the walrus is a very clever and shifty anymule . . .
D'artagnan
Is there any question regarding the guilt of the snipers in the Washington area. Would they be good candidates for capital punishment? There are more than a few times that guilt is not in question. Than and only then should the death penalty be imposed.
Take the case of the 2 white men who dragged the Black man to his death in Texas. No question as to guilt. Yes, there will have to be strict rules for it's application however, IMO is should not be abolished..
The grip of "civilization" on the human mind is a lot more tenuous than most of us would care to admit, I think...
Please dismiss this as me flogging my own dead horse, picking at a scab, being morbid, whatever...

That's what they said on the news, but he hasn't gotten violent yet and people have gotten as close as 8ft from him. Even the walrus's are friendly up here ;-)

I understand the disagreement with and dislike of the present as you say rogue administration. I have no great love for it either. But I continually read or maybe imagine the people are denigrating the US it's system and people, at least the ones that do not agree with them. This post is as you can see is not about our rogue administration but infers we are no better than Saudi Arabia. If one reads some of the other threads there are many at least to my mind denigrate the US and it's people. I could be all wet but that is how I see it.
Pretty much all the negative posts I've seen about the US are directed towards the government. I can't recall ever seing a negative post directed to the american people. I have absolutely nothing against americans at all, in fact I have countless of friends over. I was also born and raised in Massachusetts. The people are not the problem, it's the government that sucks.
The time has come, the Walrus said
To speak of many things
Of ships and shoes and sealing wax
Of cabbages, and of Kings . . .
Our local news guy is a riot. He always does a prank on April fools day. This year they had an apple grower put marshmallows on all the tips of the apple trees and said that due to climate change, this was the first year that marshmallows are being grown in Canada. The growing of marshmallows was unsuccessful in the past.
