steissd, ever seen a mardi gras day march/parade? How would you feel about seeing straight men and women marching through the streets half dressed and nearly (or actually, maybe) having sex?

I have never seen Mardi Gras. What is it, by the way? If it is something French (and it sounds like this), I am not surprised...

Which kids were beaten to death? When I had financial problems 8 years ago, I used to live in one neighborhood in Tel Aviv where there were lots of gays (and rental prices were lower). No one ever touched them... Maybe, some people permitted themselves obscene jokes, but no physical impact.

It's a New Orleans thing which is a hand-me-down from the french colonies there. But, my question is this: do you have a problem with half-nakedness in general or only when gays and lesbians are the half-naked ones?

this is what Phoenix is talking about. One boy, maybe 10 years ago, was beaten to death and left to die (slowly) while tied to a fence in the rural USA.

I have a problem with indecent behavior in the public places, except sea beach, of course, half-nakedness there is appropriate.

Well, about the boy. How can you be sure that he was killed just for being gay? Maybe, he had a quarrel with some teens' gang, and such gangs tend to be more cruel than the adult felons.

steissd you are amazing. I'm going to assume you are a Jew because you live in Israel but perhaps not, but proceeding from that point, with all the suffering in the past, and with the daily struggle life is there, you do have a recovered israeli state, a great army and intelligence force, creative brilliant people to point to proudly.

Can't you be happy about anything? Jeeshh....

Before you get all moralistic about Mardi Gras and the French...let me remind you it was Moses and not Pierre who came down with the ten commandments and found his people drunk, dancing, screwing around and worshipping a golden calf.....

First of all, I am a Christian. And the Jews were punished by God for recurrence of paganry. It took long time to make the Jewish people monotheists as they are now. Deviations from monotheism were frequent on the early stages of development of Judaism, and episodes of returning to paganry are described in the Bible. But all this happened 2,500 years ago.

Personally I think gays deserve a level playing field like everyone else no more no less, and Gay Pride days are unnecessary just like Irish pride days are unnecessary, but I also don't see the harm.

The other thing I see is that the canceling of this event is a crystal clear statement by Ashcroft and the administration and anyone who doesn't see it is blind on purpose.

It is a spit in the face to a group of people who are part of the society like it or not, and certainly exactly what is to be expected from this administration. Vote 'em out or resign yourself to more of this kind of crap.

The fact that they are actually part of the Justice Department merely shows that this particular species currently living in Washington DC eats those of their own pride.

I must be a fogey of some type. I don't think there's ever a reason to have parade or a 'pride' day or a celebration for a sexual orientation.

I think it's sort of stupid.

I don't like Mardi Gras. I think people should keep their clothes on in public. (Except at the beach.) I can stay away from NewOrleans during Mardi Gras and let the people who want to go enjoy themselves--but sometimes you can't avoid a parade.

Children and more sensitive adults sometimes have to see this stuff.

And a Hetero Pride parade would be equally stupid. What is a good reason for Sexual Orientation Day? I think gay peeps are safer not donning their leather, butt-cut-out pants and sticking their tongues in one another's mouth on Broad Street.

Whatever happened to wild parties INSIDE OR AT SOMEONE'S HOUSE-- where people can get naked, orgy or whatever they please to their heart's content without insinuating their behavior on other uninterested people? There are some really hot nite spots in South Beach and on the Keys... There are probably gay party houses in most cities.

The parades aren't doing their cause any favors. Some people don't want others' sexual practices inflicted on them.

steissd whats really scary is that those liberals and those lawyers and those democrats are against Ashcroft mandating prayer meetings. What kind of CHRISTAIN nation are we going to have with atheists, pagans, gays, buddhists and yes communists/socialists going around IN PUBLIC speaking their minds. Its an outrage i tell you, an outrage. Why before you know it we will not be allowed to burn witches or blacks or even, you know mexican illegal immigrants. This damned idea of equal rights for, you know, EVERYBODY has got to stop and the sooner the better.

How about fat guys at Football games with oversize styrofoam cowboy hats and huge bellies with war paint on going shirtless and drunk on National tv?

Part of the fabric of National life is diversity and although I agree that some things are best left behind closed doors you can't legislate good taste, and I can move away and steer my kids clear of what I find to be inappropriate.

I find what I see to be a growing National movement towards a monochrome, button down collar, crew cut return to an Eisenhower like cookie cutter society to be way more than disturbing than a few idiots displaying their utter lack of good taste or social graces, and I don't refer to Gay Pride marchers making out in the streets exclusively in that group let me be clear about that. That is a sterotypoe.

The lack of understanding and compassion displayed by some of the posters in this thread is enough to turn any decent person's stomach.

The stench of the self-serving, sanctimoneous, pompous proclamations can be detected through the monitor.

How can anyone be as afraid and hateful to people who are different? What motivates people to be like this?
