Lola's Salon
Good morning all! Beautiful day for running and swimming!
Gosh c.i. and WilliamW ~ how do Sumo's maintain weight and remain healthy?
The person eating hot dogs probably burps and loses 10 pounds ~ lucky
Atheletes amazing, no?
Words are not invented for such a reply
Would that we could have so humble a personage as the right and most
honorable Thomas Jefferson to coin a phrase.
"Do not bite at the bait of pleasure till you know there is no hook beneath it."
Thomas Jefferson
Good advise for mins, but seldom followed!
Bodily decay is gloomy in prospect, but of all human contemplations the most abhorrent is body without mind.
Thomas Jefferson
"There is no error so monstrous that it fails to find defenders among the ablest men. Imagine a congress of eminent celebrities such as More, Bacon, Grotius, Pascal, Cromwell, Montesquieu, Jefferson, Napoleon, Pitt, etc. The result would be an Encyclopedia of Error." Lord Acton - Letter to Mary Gladstone (1881)
<<Not much in congress changed since then. Unless we consider the prospect that Lord Acton was mistaken."
Withers-Danon5 and his 4 cousins and myself will take our coffee in the the library we have much work to do
hiama, while I do not have the company of cousins at this time, I and myself will be happy to take a cuppa in the library. Withers, a bit of the 'dancing fire' Grand Armagnac VSOP Hors d' Age please.
Oh, and later we will have the Pinet Castillon 1814 so you must visit the celler.
Now, hiama, what work are you interested in?
Lola's Salon
Perhaps Jefferson's quote also applied to "his" slaves.
Danon,
An Armagnac would be nice
Lola finally shows up downstairs for her second cup of coffee. Her hair is a little tousled, but she is smiling, which indicates she's feeling good.
LOLA: Oh hi, BillW, Stradee, that's a nice warm fire on this cold and rainy day. Ummmm, I'm going to snuggle into this chair here by the fireplace.
Turning to BillW, Lola says, "I know, Bill that last night I said TJ's advice was bad........the advice about the hook, but this morning.......um, I mean afternoon, I really can't remember why I said it. This morning it seems to be good advice. Humm, it must depend on something.........hummm what would that be? Hummm.......(Lola's thinking)........well, I guess if one is always looking for a hook, one might never bite and taste the sweetness, but still it does seem to me that some prudence would be in order. Pleasure can be very tempting and there are hooks, it's true. I wonder if Jefferson was speaking from personal experience?
It is reasonable to think TJ's hook theory relates to the more recent expression "If it seems too good to be true, it probably is". However, there could, if one thinks about it a bit, be many different interpretations of the passage.
TJ's lasting contribution to us is his vast and enduring intellect. Best expressed by JFK at a White House Dinner honoring Nobel Prize winners - 1962 "I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent, of human knowledge, that has ever been gathered together at the White House, with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone."
Oh, hiama, please forgive my bad manners. Here is your Armagnac, an extremely rare variety I may add,but not too old - greater than twenty-five years is a waste. Thank you Withers. We will let you know when to serve the cognac.
Thanks Danon, looks like I just missed Stradee and Lola. I wonder f Stradee's done her run yet, I only managed a 4 miler today, the 10 miler last weekend was a bit much.
I'll just curl up here by the fire till I get my strenght back.
Please let Withers know to wake me for lunch or if any of my friends come in
SPLASH !!!!!
<drenched HofT wonders why there's no warning that very-short-runway behind Lola's townhouse now ends in outdoors swimming pool, fortunately with one deep end in which her Goblin settles in, right side up; good thing she had turned off engines, as well as all electrical/electronic equipment beforehand, fortunately remembering the Goblin won't land as a glider but will sink like a stone!>
