Weather news from Bora Bora, Canada...

Nary a single flake of snow has fallen here this winter. Note that Dallas Texas cannot make the same claim. We also have no crime and all our daughters are virgins.

Stradee <giggling> pictures Tex on diving board ~ front paws stretched ~ balancing 1 jump 2 jump 3 jump ~ launching straight up then a tuck with chin
toward doggie chest <paw extended> ~ a perfect 3 and a half twist ~ entering the water without so much as a ripple / kids all Shocked then calls and flowers to Lola thanking her for sending them Tex-The-Wonder-Dog Very Happy

P&L and Stradee wonder why HIAMA <with cell phone waving > leaped off the couch, quickly packed a suitcase, <Withers standing arm extended holding HIAMA's coat by the door> Whoosh

OK - I'll 'fess up: Hiama (formerly known as "here I am again") and I have decided to get away from our snowy and rainy locations and move to Bora-Bora, Siberia:
http://www.mtwilson.edu/Tour/Lot/Green_Flash/green_nzem.html

Did anyone else notice the Iditarod, in Alaska, was postponed sine die for lack of snow???? And oh, Stradee, re doggies in swimming pools, had to remodel mine when I bought house in LA at the cost of ... don't ask.... so adored Siberian Husky could walk up steps to get out; I know of one dog in the Woodland Hills area who drowned in a pool, and there must be others - dogs have a very hard time climbing ladders like monkeys and descendants thereof <G>

Hi Hoft ~ Hadn't heard about postponement of Iditarod. Not a fan of dog races of any kind and always thought the Iditarod race not very good for Huskies, although I know doggies enjoy running ~ just not with a sled attached to them for such a grueling race.

My pool was built with stairs, the dogs shown location as they get confused when "shoreline" not visible. The dogs were good about not jumping in the pool unless we were there encouraging them. When I brought them to the Delta, that was another matter. In the water all day! Now I have the American River and seven cats. Go figure.

Thanks for amazing link!

Stradee hopes HIAMA and Hoft enjoy their trip to Bora Bora ~ Stradee deciding to stay right here where the weather mild and warm today.

Stradee - am fascinated by optical illusions, and the extent to which we share them with dogs. All the Siberians I've ever known sing at the moon rising over the horizon but pay no attention to it when it's overhead; and while of course I know the moon is always the same size, it looks bigger to me also when it's just rising.

Unlike the "green flash" in the link I posted, this isn't an atmospheric effect - it's hard-wired into our brains (and the doggies' brains, presumably) because to our distant ancestors anything coming over the horizon was more likely to represent a threat than something straight overhead.

Hoft, I did not know that about Huskies! Wolfves sing at the moon seemingly when directly overhead and when full cycle.

Noticing domestic dogs will <while sleeping> seemingly run, bay, and call during dream runs. Amazing how ancestral behaviors still remain with all generations of animals.

Looking through webpages of Optical Illusions sites, the Exploritoriam online facinated me the most because of what noted <Purginje> 19th century Czech phychologist said ~ " Deceptions of the senses are the truth's of perception".

Thanks for the info Hoft ~

Hiama calling from Bora Bora, I had to wait for HofT to arrive, I got here a bit early and whilst I was waiting Elton John's " Come down in time"'s lyrics appeared most apposite :-

In the quiet silent seconds I turned off the light switch
And I came down to meet you in the half light the moon left
While a cluster of night jars sang some songs out of tune
A mantle of bright light shone down from a room

Come down in time I still hear her say
So clear in my ear like it was today
Come down in time was the message she gave
Come down in time and I'll meet you half way

Well I don't know if I should have heard her as yet
But a true love like hers is a hard love to get
And I've walked most all the way and I ain't heard her call
And I'm getting to thinking if she's coming at all

Come down in time I still hear her say
So clear in my ear like it was today
Come down in time was the message she gave
Come down in time and I'll meet you half way

There are women and women and some hold you tight
While some leave you counting the stars in the night

We'll ba back soon to thaw out !

<in a dazzling display of relativistic quantum field theory, HofT materializes on the shores of Bora-Bora, Siberia, where Hiama has already built an house for them out of Kelvin zero superstrings; the 2 plan to spend some time here observing changes in Northern Lights caused by one-dimensional vibrating discontinuities in the fabric of spacetime>

Meanwhile, missive to Blatham is underway c/o USPS # 2407980109, Customs label # LC427838995US, Label # ER012096258US, scheduled to arrive in time for the weekend; Lola already expressed interest in anticipation, as has the (duly notified) third recipient; the Siberian contingent may be too busy with their researches to log in and post, but will be watching this space!!!

P.S. to FirstThought - saw your "dig dig nudge nudge" veiled hint, and have no comment for now! Hope to read news of your doggies, also, esp. the one darling on medication for his heart. As parting gift until weekend, here's a soundtrack you'll like:

We have been considering both evanescent and propagating cases. It is known that the traversal time in the evanescent case has much the same properties as in the non-relativistic quantum theory and thus has no problem of superluminality.

So Blatham, Firstthought, Cicerone Imposter and myself should be Ok but Stradee, Diane, Cobalt, Lola, Jes, Ehbeth, P & L and dear HofT may not be, its too ealry in our research to be definitive you understand ( or maybe not ? )

Missing the doggies and Withers very own version of Long Island Tea....

p.s.Lola, how is the basement indoors swimming pool coming along ?

An X-rated post! For the non techies that only refers to hard radiation - ahem. Hiama - sufficiently high temperatures in that pool will solve the problem; let's hope Lola will let us have news from the building contractors soon. Over and out UFN <G>

Oh, you guys haven't heard. I was too impatient with contractors. You know how those tool belt guys can be. Nice to have around, but sometimes, when you need real work done, well........ This is true of all but one tool belt guy I know. Anyway, Wassau loaned me a clicker from the Cafe and I just clicked it down there. It's all ready to enjoy. Maybe later, after I've worked a bit longer, I'll take a break and go for a swim. Anyone want to join me?

Oh and HofT, oh how I hate to wait for surprises! But wait I must, I suppose. Smile

hiama, Long Island Tea brought back some memories for me. When I was in the work force a few lifetimes ago in Palo Alto, I used to go to University Ave for lunch. An LI tea was always my beverage of choice. Jim Plunket used to frequent that restaurant too. c.i.

I had a girl friend once whose son was coming to visit us for the first time (the ex was in the CIA). Anyway, she was drinking LI tea and on her second I thought whoa - she had a third. I wondered where she was storing them.

We went home before heading to the airport and she flat passed out on me. I had go and get the boy - about 8-10 years old without any idea who he was. Fortunately, it was in about 1984 and the standards weren't as strict. He always respected me, regardless of our initial meeting.

She was Indonesian, so he was half Indonesian; which brings up a question of mine:

Everyone refers to Tiger Woods as Black - I've never heard him refered to him as Thai, why?

Hi William W and c.i, saw an interview <few years ago> where the person asking the questions addressed the issue. Tiger said that his mom was
Asian, his dad black, and he felt connected to both races comfortably.

Lola, the pools ready? Girl, your tool belt does work fast!

Ask Withers to let me know when you'll have time away from the office and we'll take a swim in the new pool!

Stradee prepares for another mile run so she can wear her bathingsuit without a t-shirt Razz

Hey HIAMA--I'll have you know that I'm not only evanescent, I'm also luminous or luminal as hell!! Here's the glow to prove it.....

\++{****}++/

For further research. go to this link:
Free downloadable programs that calculate the photonic-band structure of dielectric crystals with a single spherical 'atom' per unit cell. The spheres must be non overlapping. Examples of such systems are photonic band gap materials based on colloidal crystals and air spheres in a dielectric matrix. Developed bythe group ofAd Lagendijk andRudolf Sprik, at the Van Der Waals-Zeeman Institute, Physics Department, University of Amsterdam [http://www.wins.uva.nl/research/scm/sprik/pbs.htm].

After you finish that LI iced tea, I'll race you to the end of the pool.

Lightwizard speeds by the the Wizardmobile, blasting on the horn and shouting, "Hasn't anyone here seen Written on the Wind?"
(After the lukewarm response to "The Bicycle Thief," I was beginning to think I'm the only one who could read subtitles).

Speeds off leaving the unmistakable odor of Spam and the stale odor of old mildewed soap opera scripts.
