oldandnew, I've always promised myself a dog after I retired, but I'm going on five years since my retirement, and still no dog. With my constant traveling, I can't take care of a dog properly, so I'm gonna have to wait until such time my travel days are over. c.i.

Diane ~ there actually is a "Hotel California" ! Right off of hwy 17 interchange/ Oakland, CA.

Probably where the lyrics were written after a concert at Oakland Colisium.

The building appears more like Kris Kristopherson "Hellacious acres" song/ ...admissions free, ya pay to get out... Now that's scary!

Stradee happily joins the group as they prepare lunch for island picknick.

"Diane", asks Stradee "Where will we be traveling next"?, as she offers Diane, Cobolt, and the rest of the group coffee <caffeine best for clearing
shroom hangover> Stradee hides the brownies.

Ummm, coffee gooood. Stradee, I guess we all will go wherever we want to--I would love to see the Salt Spring Market in Ganges then go the the studio of the sculptor Simon Morris...

"Simon Morris is a bronze sculptor on Salt Spring Island, specializing in marine mammal and figurative themes. He is the sculptor of the famous nine foot tall mermaid placed underwater in BC and also Grand Cayman. Simon's sculpture is held in private and corporate collections in Belgium, Canada, England, France, Grand Cayman, Mexico, Taiwan, Thailand, and the United States including Hawaii. He has been invited to represent Canada at the 28th Annual Festival of Underwater Pictures in Antibes, France, this November."

Up on the deck of the not quite magnificent Queen of Prince Rupert, a strong warm breeze wafts the hair of Pandemonium passengers who have it. Driver/dictator and host with most blatham gathers half the motley, and mottled, oldsters together aft and has them lie on the not quite comfortable deck on their stomachs, positioned facing foredeck. The other half are driven by whip and promises of sexual favors mid deck. Rules are sternly explained to the mid-deckers, now standing on a line recently drawn using a fucia aroma therapy candle, who then execute the commands: 'kneel', 'open bag of cheesies', 'pick one', 'hold it tightly on the line' 'RELEASE'. The strong winds wafting up from the not quite magnificent Straight of Georgia catches the competing cheesies which race headlong toward the waiting mouths of the not quite luckier receiving oldsters.

Ow! THAT's what's wrong with me tonight! I've got spoonerisms! This twisting, wrenching headache and then on top, trying to figure out just what blatham and Letty and all are talkin' about, jeesh, can't a gal get some piece and maybe later some quiet? (Oops, my bad!)

Hi Mikey, your welcome. My favorite art and sculptures are of the old west <horses, indians, anything connected to that era> and until today, I hadn't seen any of Simon's work. Truly awsome.

I've got one artifact of a sand painting made by a tribe of American indians from Arizona. A friend who was visiting the state, brought me the sand painting as a gift. A volume of Bama's paintings, and the sand painting ~ my art collection. Smile

Her statue, The Ancient Mariner could be a carbon copy of one they have in Gloucester Ma, I wonder if she had anything to do with that one. I'll look tomorrow.

Horses huh? I see something about a Morgan earlier on?
Had a black Morgan stallion here for years. Feisty one he was.

Yep, horses are a special species of animal.

Geeze Mikey, you're braver than I am. Stallions arn't exactly the calmest
animals.

Palamino's a nice calm 16'3 standard/quarter geilding.

Stradee experiencing spoonerism! How in the heck did I post twice!

Blatham, that's an incredible sculpture! Enough to scare the heck out of a person though. Who is Bill Reid, and what is the dear man smoking?

Phew! That 5-ton bronze monstrosity is located at the Canadian Embassy in Washington, D.C. It's an aboriginal-style concatenation of figures usually stacked on top of each other on totem poles, here placed on a boat - presumably as a tribute to Leif Ericsson. All I know about the sculptor is that he died - guess he came across his oeuvre suddenly in the dark <G>

P.S. at least I *think* that's what it is - hope there are no 2 such sculptures extant, certainly. Btw, is Lola's Salon Magical Mystery Tour bus still in British Columbia? Hope Blatham our guide comes back soon!

This bronze work, perhaps fifteen feet high, sits in the Vancouver International Airport on the Departures level. There may be a copy at the Embassy. The artist, Bill Reid, was an aboriginal carver/artist (check google images for more pieces). This piece is, in it's graphic and emotional strength, one of my very favorite pieces of scultpture.
