Well I may be heading out to the job-market soon myself. Things are not going well for the company as a whole and I am finally realizing that I need to get up of my arse and look for something else (pardon my french).
I have watched some long-term extremely loyal people getting the boot because they couldn't afford to relocate or because of a reshuffle within the company. I have no illusions that I am a little cog within this big wheel and those in management barely understand what it is I do. It makes me wonder if this company will still be around in five years. Anyhoo, it's off to Monster.com for me to have a nosey around that site to see what's up.
best of luck, heev. nothing i hate more than a job hunt, myself.
heeven--Just a tip about monster.com.....make sure you post your resume privately. My company is one of those that checks monster not just to see who's out there, but who's in here and looking. The boss hit the roof last year when mine was found by our corporate recruiter. I purposely did NOT post mine privately because I was only exploring options and had no intention of leaving my position at the time. Also, I was trying to make my GM understand that certain things going on at the time (which he instigated) were pissing off even his biggest supporters.
Good luck, heeven.
I just started seriously looking this week.
Geez Rae!
Gunna look for beans to move around??
patiodog, that sucks. I'd bet that Ms. Powertrip is picking up on the fact that you really, really don't care. I have plenty of experience with those people, and either an overt or implied statement of "mess with me and I'm so outta here" has done wonders.
Can I ask where you guys ended up deciding to go? Madison?
Good luck Heeven and Rae!
My boss knows I'm looking. We had a little 'chat' as he gave me a heads-up for the forward trend of the company in general and our department in particular. Could turn out differently but I have been clear with him that if he ever got a hint of anything, he was to let me know.
I have left the job market at last after having been unemployed for two months. I found a position of stock inspector in some construction materials trading company. I lost about $400 in monthly salary, if compared to my previous position, but current job market situation in Israel did not give me much chances to find anything better, granted, I am already 40 years old. I start working from tomorrow morning.
Congrats on your new job, steissd. No more military service?
Thanks. I shall have an active reserve service next year, but I need not volunteer any more.

Dunno yet. Wisconsin sent me a letter saying that they'd let me know sometime in June -- I suspect they're wrestling with state budget problems. Same deal in Sacto, though they haven't been so courteous as to give me any time frame at all. California tends to move slowly in the budget arena. It'll be a last minute sort of move, wherever it is...
It's good to hear about someone getting a job instead of losing one, steiss.
Well, prior to having found a new job I lost the old one; just due to general economic situation in the country.
steissd
Congratulations - guess we won't see you as much??
Nice of WI to send you a letter, anyway. Looks like E.G. is not getting the job at the U of MN, but we know that strictly through the grapevine... they haven't said nothin' (over a month now that there was something to say.)

Some people.
The gf has plans in both Madison and Sacto, too?
Yeppers. If the right things happen in Sacto it's the better match, just because, if all goes well, I'll still be slogging away in vet school when she finishes up and there are a lot more professional options in NorCal than in Wisconsin. She's also got a medical condition which is aggravated by extreme cold -- was a real nuisance in Chicago -- so I'm hesitant on that front (though she's intent on soldiering through it if need be).
Ooh. Hope Sacto works out, then. Never been there, know an alarming number of people who say it is great.
It is what it is. It's a little town, the weather is great, it's close to San Francisco and to Tahoe, it's a state capital, cost of living is low.
But I'm from the mountains down there, and I was brought up to look with almost as much scorn at the cowpokes and farmhands down in the valley as at the yuppies and movie star wannabes in L.A. (Not that it's a hotbed of regional animosity or anything...)
