dupre--I admire your strength. I too walked off the job once, but I walked back in with another job offer within an hour, not much bravery there.

rae--that's what we're here for.

The axe fell at work yesterday. We lost two managers and will gain one who was displaced from another store. I'll be moving to another area as of today (I'm off today....as of tomorrow). Our non-selling staff has been stripped. They're the ones I worry about, the ones who slave away for minimum wage and can barely survive on what we pay them.

Keeping my fingers crossed, Terry.

Funny how minimum-wage employees are the most productive, vital part of almost any business......yet they are given the least amount of respect and dignity.

Not fair. Evil or Very Mad

Indeed, dupre! 'Gone fishin' is Chef's motto.

Since I'm the new owner of an ocean-pole, I'd say that I have to agree with that motto!

I've also found the hug thread helpful when times are rough, tough or generally not pleasant.

Sometimes, you become a victim of yr own success. And this is what has happened to me today. My group has been split between corporate and consumer bank, and my boss, who I like very very much is moving to the consumer bank. Not only I wanted to move with him, I also wanted to move to the consumer bank as I wanted to learn new things, and operate out of my comfort zone. But the powers to be have decided that my knowledge of corporate bank and the culture/relationships which I have is far too valuable to lose, so I am staying put in the corporate bank. My new boss is a twit, an idiot and very very petty. A complete nightmare to work for (or so I am told).

I am not a very happy bunny right now. Maybe it is time to look for another job.

Sorry to hear that one, Gautam. Do what I do: maintain a positive attitude and make faces every time she turns her back. Smile
Seriously though, maintain a positive attitude and form your own opinions. Maybe she'll surprise you. I have a horrible reputation among those who don't work for me. Because I'm very demanding new employees of mine assume I'm a b!tch...then they get to know me.

I got some good news at work today. The schedule for the new area will allow me to bring the best members of my staff with me should they choose to move. One will definitely be left behind by choice. She's been in the same place for nine years and will be a great asset to the new manager. Fortunately not one member of my old staff will be forced in any direction; they'll all have a choice.

Terry - its a "he" Laughing See, I already know this bloke and have done guest audits under him, so I have a pretty fair idea of what to expect. I have been getting (informal) condolance messages since today morning, since the news has started to spread.

At our level, a boss is there to do yr appraisals and upward management, not micro manage you. Under the previous boss, I was left to make my own decisions, manage my own budgets, do the work in the way I thought it best as long as adhered to the guidelines. There was trust between him and me.

The new guy is very "autocratic" - things have to be done exactly the way he thinks they should be done and he will not let you deviate even an inch from his well trodden path. His "bossiness" comes from insecurity - as it is a well known fact that he hardly knows anything abt corporate banking, is piss poor in mantaining relationships (which are extremely important in an audit job) and will block any glory which radiates from a person under him for a job well done. I can already see that there will be friction between us. My days of being a foot soldier under a general are long gone, and I will not be treated as one.

I told my MD yesterday evening (he took me out for drinks to explain the "reasons" for such a move) that he should tell my new boss that I come with a label "Handle with care. Highly explosive if not handled properly" Laughing

Besides, he looks like "Thomson and Thompson" from the Tintin comics, has a "whiny", nasal voice and has this extremely irritating habit of calling you in his office if he wants something, rather that walk to yrs (which my previous boss used to do)

Sorry, misread petty as pretty....time for new glasses.

Sounds like someone needs to take this guy down a peg.

Thanks, Setanta. That's what I look like on the inside.

I think some people's goal in life is to get themselves into a spot where they can treat other people like garbage without repercussion. Certainly I see things dished out to people with no recourse but to quit for no apparent reason, things that out in the real world might earn them a beating. What a miserable piece of crap you'd have to be to operate like that, though.
