Is there still a Mexican place called the Oasis at the top of the hill, looking down on the lake?

I remember an award-winning view, average food and great margaritas.

The Chuy's in Houston suck...

I like Chuy's ok - especially during the Green Chile Festival. I once saw a truly cheesy Elvis impersonator perform there... Rolling Eyes

Besides good food and good atmosphere, I'm hopeful that we can find a place that isn't too loud (so as not to hinder conversation) and that won't be rushing us out the door right away...

Yes the Oasis is still there but they suck. LOL No really, my sister in law and her company recently had a dinner there and all the chicken was undercooked! Yuck! Well, if not Chuys then I vote for either The Salt Lick or Sam Hills. But , I'll show up to a House of Pancakes for ya'll............ Very Happy

Not to suggest any specific place, there are a few places around here that I really enjoy. I thought I might drop a few extra suggestions into the pot.

My favorite place to eat is Johnny Carino's. Italian with a bit of southwest flare. Not sure if this would be a good place for a large gathering. It's a little more upscale than places like Denny's, but the food is excellent, IMHO. Think of an Italian Red Lobster, but with really good food. Very Happy

Other places I enjoy that might be more suited to larger gatherings are Rudy's BBQ, a place in downtown Georgetown called Monument Cafe, and the Spaghetti Warehouse in downtown Austin.

I'm sure there are tons of other places, but these are the main ones I frequent. I really don't eat out all that much, except when family comes to visit, that kinda thing.

I've never been to Chuy's cause I'm not a big fan of spicy food. I usually avoid Tex-Mex, but you never know until you try.

Yeah, I'm not that crazy about Threadgill's, but it is better than some other places. There are a few Mexican restaurants I also like, but they're a little on the small side. My favorite would have to be Antonio's on Jollyville Rd. Excellent food and big servings.

Maybe once we get a date set we'll have a vote on the locale. Does that sound fair?

The main concern for a restaurant, after excellence of food is noise level. Frustration is high in noisy restaurants for folks eager to talk to each other.

No, just traditional Mexican. It's been awhile since I went cause I'm on a low-carb diet right now. I do get to cheat every now and then, but I have to careful and very picky. My desire for Krispy Kreme knows no bounds.

Now now, control yourself, Sink.

In case you didn't know, the entrance to the restaurant is in the back of the building. For a long time, I thought it was just a bar until my brother and sister-in-law took me there for lunch. It has great atmosphere for a little place.

LibertyD, would that happen to be taken from the name of a Bar with a drug store history?

BillW -- wow! You must be in (or have been in) Norman! Yep, I worked there in college and made some special friends -- a great time in my life.

I was here when it use to be a drug store, the Across The Street was here, Ernie's Town Tavern and the Sports Shop (not to mention the Boomer Theater).

Use to buy my cig's from a little old man - the drug store was absolutely awesome, the smell the feel - I'll never forget it.

BTW, caugt in a earlier dispatch; maybe here or maybe another thread, that you are Okie. Put two and two together. Bingo!

Yes, I survive in Normal, USA!

OK, you Oakheads can reminisce when you meet...

It's officially incumbent upon you Austinites to locate a suitable venue (good food and appropriate conversationally).

Your scouting mission begins NOW...

PDiddie isn't interested in the history of Abnorman, BillW! Sad

I've never been to Austin before, but have heard teriffic things about it. This should be a lot of fun!
