Today was a little more pleasant than yesterday. 177.5 but stilll nowhere near where I want to be. I didn't get out of the Dr's office until almost 4:00 yesterday and was fasting for some blood work so I stopped at Subway on the way home and had a turkey/ham sandwich. Then I dove into a bag of cheese popcorn with my daughter afterwards but had a good dinner of roast pork and ratatouille.

Dr confirmed that bp is getting up there (137/79) and because of my age and bcp I'm at increased risk for stroke so I need to get this back under control. I don't want to start taking bp meds if I can keep it down simply by maintaining a healthier weight.

I will do this NOW!

I am on the Gi diet and I must say it's very good.

I have now lost 10 lbs in less than three weeks.

Today for lunch I had tomato, green pepper, red pepper and celery cut into chunks, two slices of lean ham and some oatcakes made without sugar.
And an orange. Tasty, nutritious, sufficient.

About twenty pounds to go, though. Wish me luck.

mmmmmm, the best stuff in the world.... No, stop, bad popcorn, why does it keep calling me from the cupboard? I hate open bags of things. Better to just eat it all and be done with it!

Good luck! Gi as in glycemic index?

That's what I say! Eat the whole damn pie and get it out of the house.

Seriously, that's why I try not to bring that kind of stuff in the house because I'll eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner, figuring that the sooner I can get rid of it, the sooner I can get rid of it.

I have two teenage girls, they open them, I finish them. Sweets I can pass on but salty, crunchy snacks do me in. I can go weeks without opening a bag of chips but as soon as someone opens it, I eat it.

I should be able to focus on things until Super Bowl Sunday when I'll have a house full of people and junk. Out to dinner with family planned for Saturday night but if I'm in one of my dedicated modes I can do all right eating out.

Crappy day today so I went to the healthclub. 24 mins hill climb on the bike (level 3) and 2 miles on the treadmill with hill intervals, followed by weights and abs.

Water, JB, drink lots of water....

Other people are showing great fortitude and good sense.

I will try to profit by such sterling examples.

Do I really want to belong to a peer group of indolent, overweight people?

The incredible shrinking man shrinks in incredibly small portions.

I find myself being the good parent, the good parent to me that is, so that last night when the sushi we ordered finally came, after an hour and a half, (driver got very lost, order had to be remade) I sat on the couch at ten thirty pm and said "yum, but just eat till you're full'' and my brain said "I'm really not all that hungry now." So, after a piece or two, I put the rest in the fridge for tomorrow's lunch.

Very noble, Joe. I think that "eating for greed" not "eating for hunger" is one habit that has to be broken.

I still can't understand how you get up so early, though!

Yes, Gi is Glycemic Index in our house. It's the Law.

Apropos eating food to "get rid of it", we've all been there.

But my brother said once, better it be thrown away in the bin (the trash) than thrown away inside me.

Which I agree with. I do not allow do'nuts to speak to me, as they speak to Homer. "Talk to the trash, the tum isn't listening!". No actually, of course we don't buy them.

But of course it's much harder when there are non-dieters in the house.

I have an alarm cat named Ruby. Mrs. Nation hates it when my alarm clock goes off, so I trained the cat to wake me up at 5:am. If she does it on time, she gets a handful of treats, if she pokes at me at 4:30a, she gets nothing. Weekends, I get up, give her the treat and head back to bed.

Getting up gives me the time to do my yoga, eat breakfast and see if any of you will suffer fools like me.

I tried GI vis-a-vis SB for a while but I don't like clock watching and thinking about whether it's time to eat. It put too much focus on eating and paying attention to eating. The foods I eat tend to be quality proteins, whole grains and natural fruits and veggies so I do pretty well when I pay attention, I just get lazy sometimes.

Did I just contradict myself?

176.5 today. Almost back to where I started two weeks ago before said laziness took over and I gained 4 lbs instead of losing 11. Back on track it seems.

Another day--with 9 hours and 56 minutes of daylight.

Presently I will no longer dream of gobbling great chunks of whale blubber.

Some ice melted yesterday. I may be able to leave the house for the first time in a week.

Congratulations to all you two-legged wonders. Hold your dominions.

One of my bizarre entertainments is following sunrise and sunset data. I posted on another thread about Jan 10th being my favorite day of the year because it's the first day after the latest sunrise. Anywho, we are about to enter a 10-day period of significance here in Chicagoland. Today's sunset is 5:00 (coming back from 4:20 in early Dec), on Monday we reach the 10 hours of daylight mark (coming back from 9' 06" on the solstice), and Saturday the 5th we reach 7:00 am sunrise (coming back from 7:20 in early January). I'm so excited!

Ok, simple pleasures amuse simple people but I really hate the long, cold days of winter.

Imagine my delight, moving from the darkness of Chicago winters to Georgia where, not only is the weather warm and so much more gentle but the daylight lasts longer as well. As J_B wrote, in the winter it's dark at 4:30 in Chicago. Here it doesn't get dark until about 6 and in the summer, there's still light at 9pm.

LOVE IT! Laughing Cool
