Second day at gym, report follows.
Much busier today, yesterday was just right, I may have to miss Thursday and go on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, I'll see what happens next week.
Timings much as yesterday.
5 mins to gym
5 mins warm up on bike
15 mins free weights today
5000m on concept 2 rower-22 mins
5 mins warm down
5 mins drive home
I am getting ready for Jane Fonda's Aerobic Challenge workout video, after my coffee and slim fast shake. it's an hour and a half of pure hell, very satisfying though. yesterday, i, clever head, biked in freezing rain for fourty minutes with rain pouring right on my neck and down on my back. needless to say i could barely move in the evening and was quite kranky. naturally i had to console myself with some french fries, otherwise i did not eat much though. mirraculously my back seems fine today, we'll see after the challenge. this dieting thread just may be the way to my grave! then again, any other way leads to the grave in the end, so what. as long as i'm having fun, right?
Right-life is what you make it Dags
A toast to that! (with black current jam)
Am off to the gym in 1 hour !!! <makes a note to self - should chill out in the jaccuzzi after the work out, maybe that will help with the aches and pains>
Jane Fonda should be put on qualudes. Maybe I shouldn't have started with the J.F. "Challenge" video.... I maybe did 3/4 of it.
I did it too. It gets easier after 15 times :-) First time I would have killed her if she were anywhere nearby.
I just wanted a tranquilizer gun, nothing that'd kill her. I turned it off toward the end of the stomach work-out.
Day 2 - it got just a bit easier. 20 mins on the bike at a "random" programme - managed to cover 8 miles and then 20 mins on the elliptical trainer, again at a "random" program - managed to do 3 miles. (By the time I finished I was so far away from home that I had to call a cab to take me back). No weights again - that I will start next week.
Followed by a light dinner of half a pizza and an apple.
Gautam,
I am impressed at your times for bike and elliptical, I'll have a bash at these two using the ransom program at my main gym session which will be on Saturdays, always assuming I have worked all the alcohol out of my system from Friday night relaxation.
Well done, you are already pretty fit by any standard.
Thanks Hiama. Actually I have found that the best way to work out the alcohol from yr system is to go to the gym. In my fitter days, the sure shot way for me to get rid of my hangover was to go for a run !!
I am also avoiding wheat in my diet - which is very very difficult for a north Indian.
go ahead and eat what you want in moderation. i've been into the physical fitness thing for quite a while and i'll tell you fad diets come and go. the funny part is those same fad diets always show up again a few years later under a different name. and the same people keep falling for them. those high carb/protein, low carb/protein, no carb/protein, diets are all crap. the main thing is that you stick to some fitness program and the most important thing, expend more calories than you intake. that my friend is the simple key to weight loss.
I agree with you pueo. The problem with me is that I love my parathas and chapaatis too much so I eat a lot when I am having them. Don't like rice at all, so always eat in moderation when I am having rice with my meal. Its more a "mental" thing that a "diet" thing.
I amm normally burn 400 odd calories in the gym - do u think this is a good level or do I need to do more ?
as you get accustomed to a set regimen, you will begin to enhance your workouts. this is pretty normal, almost everyone raises their level of intensity over a period of time. once you do that, you will of course expend more calories, get more physically fit, increase metabolism, you will burn calories faster, etc. in short 400 is good for now, <although i think it may be more than that> it will get better later. the main thing is, don't quit!
Cheers mate - I will try not to give it up this time. It is also good for my heart actually - we have a family history of heart disease and having crossed 30, I should really make an effort to stay fit is I wish to see old age.
perservere, you may end up making friends too. it's ususally a good thing if you have a workout partner. on those days when you don't feel like going to the gym, it helps sometimes to know that someone is waiting there for you and you don't want to let them down.
Oh god - not in my gym - most of them wear a scowl on their face !! Make friends with strangers in London
