Noddy Very Happy

I held my dominion, went for a 4 mile run -equalling my record, unfortunately though I held my dominion, the lord had other ideas about my right soleus muscle and it gave on me again, very painful last half a mile.

So swam in the sea for 20 minutes and went for a bike ride today. After 2 miles the back wheel had a puncture, no kit with me so had to carry the bike with the back wheel off the ground the 2 miles back home-good weghts session !!!

After finding 3 holes and repairing them , there is still another hole and I have used all my patches so looks like I'll need a new inner tube. Pity , I forgot how much I enjoy mountain biking-well next week I'll have a crack when I get a new inner tube. Meanwhile it'll be back to the gym tomorrow and maybe another swim in the sea as well, first thing.

Are you becoming an exercise addict? Your outdoor exploits sound much more entertaining than repetitive gym workouts, but all is grist for the mill.

Hold your dominion.

talk about biking, hiama. yesterday i dusted off my bike, and went for a spin. i read about an old water mill on the river danube, decided to go see it. not only it turned out to be a 70km altogether and i can barely crawl around the house today, i have also had all the men whistling at me all the while i was on the bike. in slovakia it is quite common, but still, i didn't understand the volume. now i do. i had a handsome visor that i purchased on widespread panic website - it thus says 'panic' on it. the trouble is, 'panic' in slovak means 'male virgin'. thus i probably seemed to the random onlookers as a virgin hunter or whatnot. once i realized my mistake, i put the hat into my bag and did half of the way hat-less, only to feel sick from the sun that was blasting on my head. oh well. next time i'll be more clever and wear something more innocent. and go shorter distances. auch!

Dags,

You never told us you were in the Tour de France- 70kilometers is around 44 miles which is one hell of a spin, I wouldn't be able to sit down for a week if I had cycled so far.

You are one fit person Very Happy

weeellll, maybe i WAS a fit person. but now my knees and hip joints are killing me. it's better than yesterday though, when i could barely crawl around. but my muscles, i am proud to tell, are in good shape, not hurting one bit. only if i could get rid of that damned skeleton inside me!!!

Feel like I'm getting back into a semblance of a routine now:-

20 mins weights, my crocked pec seems to be healing slowly, still going easy with the bench presses though only 90 pounds x 2 reps of 15, aerobically did 2500m on rower in 9 mins 36 secs and then 40 mins on elliptic covering just over 5 miles and 800 calories burned

That's 5 sessions this week Very Happy

Good for Joe, nice compliment, thank you.

Today I lost my patience and tried the treadmill, ran 3 miles pretty slowly at 9 minute miles-felt ok at the time, a little soreness now in the soleus again, I'm going to have to get it sorted out this is driving me nuts.

The good news is that the pec damage seems to have been repaired and I'm almost back to my full 20 minute weights sessions Very Happy

I hope you have all body parts present and firmly attached at the time of every weigh-in? Otherwise, you're cheating!

Hiama: You didn't ask for my advice so ignore this if you want to:

there is no better money spent than that for a good coach.

Injuries, soreness and outright damage can be avoided by having the right schedule of reps/weight increases prepared for you by someone who knows what they are doing. Ask around.

Several years ago when I was starting over(again!) with weight training and running I worked with a coach for about three months and I've used the same techniques and schedules ever since. No lost body parts or time outs due to injury.

I think I lose my concentration.

Joe

Hey Joe, that's great advice.

The young instructor guy at the gym has given me a shedule, which has basically worked better than I could ever imagine.

Where it fell down was when my ego got in the way and I tried doing more than my body was capable of.

Suffice to say when I started the programme I could hardly do 10 maybe 15 press ups now 50 is easy and I can do a rep within a few minutes of another 50-my arms are like concrete and yet I keep my flexibility with just a 5 minutes stretching routine every day- cheers Fella Very Happy

That statement should be made into a little poster and stuck on every machine in every gym in every country. Laughing

I don't have Hiama's discipline for a gym, but my brother does. He helped me design a quick, effective workout that I can do easily at home. To think I actually believed I could do proper push-ups and squats Laughing He also emphasized that good coaching is essential to minimize injury.
