Mac--

Every teeny loss is a thing of beauty and a joy forever.

*******

I have hopes for today and getting back on schedule--at least briefly. This week I had two "routine" medical appointments. Next week I'll have three. All of them complicate my eating schedule and exercise times.

In November I'll have many fewer reasons to rationalize--and much worse weather.

Do I have to exercise? Weigh in?

You're very welcome, Squinney, but ...

why would you want to lose weight?

Pfft! You are too kind, Thomas.

I actually started losing weight without knowing it. People started commenting, and I wrote it off to the new jeans (a size smaller than I thought I would need) being more slimming than what I normally wear.

Realized I hadn't done laundry yesterday and had to riffle through the back of the closet. Tried some pants I hadn't worn in 5-6 years and they were loose. That means I've gone from about a size 18 to a 14 in two months. Shocked

I haven't been trying to lose weight - not because I don't need to, just 'cause I hadn't cared. Now I'm motivated to drop another 30. I just don't want to sweat.

Sweating helps a great deal, in my experience.

It reminds me of a rant I was working up about the gym. There are older women there too, and they tend to look a little scandalized when I, ya know, work out. People my age and younger tend to go all-out -- red faces, sweaty, breathing heavily. People about 10 years older and up tend to be, what, ladylike. They're careful, they don't sweat, not a hair out of place.

Title IX generation, maybe.

Hi Squinney,

Check out Jorge Cruise's original 8 minutes in the morning. He's got a number of newer versions and twists, but the original one is the best. 8 minutes a day, working two opposing muscle groups (no sweat) and a balanced eating plan.

8 minutes? I could probably handle that. Now that it is cooling a bit, I'll start walking the dog - er, letting Gracie walk me is probably more like it.

Yeah, maybe sweating is a generational thing, but I don't care about my hair getting mussed. It's just the yucky feel of sweating. (she says, while knowing full well it's beneficial for release of toxins, etc)

Squinney--

Welcome.

You want to lose 30 pounds? Great.

Now, what are you going to eat for dinner and how long a walk does Gracie have to fit in her schedule?

The devil is in the details.

You can do it, Squinney!

This has been hugely helpful for me, really.

I was weighed and measured today -- I wasn't looking forward to this because I've only been back to working out reliably for the last couple of weeks, after a long hiatus. (I did active stuff during that hiatus but wasn't putting together a reliable workout regimen.) And I was finally getting somewhere at my last weigh-and-measure session.

Not too bad though. Weight is the same (not higher), most other measurements are the same, but 1/2 inch off of arms and 1 whole inch off of thighs... cool!

Welcome squinney!

Cooler weather definitely helps me feel more energetic. Not that it's much cooler yet here. 85 instead of 95...

Believe me, Gracie has aaaallll day! We can probably get a mile or so in each day without a problem. We have a lot of walkers / runners in the neighborhood that are out at all hours so I don't really have to limit it to daytime. I'm more likely to get it done in the evening.

As far as dinner - probably a glass of wine and a handful of Ritz. Embarrassed

Obviously Gracie is going to be a Big Help Girl. Is she willing to eat the "last bite" to spare you the calories?

As for your menu, could you add an apple for a vew vitamins and a bit of fiber?

Yes, Mom.

(I can see you're a tough love kinda group. Just what I need.)

Thanks, Mac. I'm all about Fall and Spring. Winters are mild enough here to not really disrupt walking much.

I'm not sure. Probably some sort of fat->muscle conversion. (Muscle weighs more.) I always gain or stay steady in the early part of working out to lose weight (well not "always," that sounds like the "it's easy to quit smoking, I do it all the time" sort of thing, I've done it twice in my life so far), but my size changes; then eventually the pounds start coming off, too.

Hey, it's commonly stated, but muscle doesn't weigh more than fat. (What weighs more, a pound of feathers or a pound of gold?)

It takes up less space...

Hey, welcome Squinney. Now that you've popped up here you're gonna find it hard to get it out of your head that others know what you are out to do. Smile

I'm impressed, Soz!

I've managed to tick off some of my minor goals, now moving into big goal territory.
I think I finally figured out "how I work" in relation to staying motivated. I'm very interested in gaining some athletic ability! lol.

Right now I'm working on conquering a few fears to do with certain sports and activities. Ones that I've never felt good at or wanted to avoid, I want to see if I can have some fun with it.

So coming up this week a friend and I are going to the batting cages. I hate baseball! or at least that has been how I used to feel.

I'm a bit excited.

Soz--

Congratulations on having established a base line. Do you tighten up on your extremities first, before moving on to a sleek, mean torso?

I'm one of those just-as-soon-not-sweat belle dames. I don't mind sweat as a byproduct of honest labor, but deliberately working up a sweat is distasteful to me.

My hand-to-eye and foot-to-eye coordination has always been poor and my public school gym teachers (all phys ed majors) rather enjoyed humiliating academic types.

Mushy--

Good for you. Exploring what you might become takes both courage and a sense of adventure.

Go, girl. Go.
