I weighed 190.4 at weigh-in today - down 2.8 pounds from the last meeting two weeks ago.

That brings me to a grand total of 99 pounds down!

I'm very pleased, but I'll be ecstatic when I get to 100...

Thanks guys. It's very nice to have my own cheering section. Very Happy

I think it was the exercise. I got some in every day since 12/24. Used the treadmill at the hotel when I was out of town. Took really long walks on the 2 days that both of my health clubs were closed for New Years - and was lucky to have sunshine and moderate temps those days, or I wouldn't have managed such long walks.

mac, that's wonderful - you must feel so proud and satisfied - what an achievement.

JPB - great idea - baby steps.

I don't have as much to lose as some, but on a small frame, it makes all the difference ... I put on 25 lbs when I quit smoking 2 yrs ago. I'm great at maintaining but lousy at losing. Like flushd, I don't like constraints! lol

I have a new job, however -- cooking, and that's putting me off eating, I can tell you, plus I will be walking to and fro work (2.2 km each way - that's about 1.3 mi) - at least 3 times a week, and on the other days I can do a longer walk. With any luck, I'll be shedding a few lbs each month. And of course, we have to drink the water, don't we, ladies... I hate drinking plain water, so I make pitchers of raspberry tea (herbal section) and drink that hot or cold.

Plus I make homemade chicken or turkey broth and drink that before eating, then a salad, and that's usually enough food. If not, then dinner gets a green light, but usually, not too much

Anyway, sorry for the engine-run-on there - I mainly wanted to congratulate mac11 for her significant loss, and to cheer everyone else on.

Mame, welcome and thanks for the cheers. I understand about being in a restaurant putting you off from eating. I worked at Dunkin' Donuts and McDonald's as a teen and avoid donuts and burgers to this day. I don't know if I've seen you mention wintertime temps in your area. Does that affect how often you can walk? I prefer to walk outside, but I wimp out in the winter and use a treadmill at the healthclub.

Yesterday was so-so. The truffles and leftover Christmas cookies called me after dinner. I've now put most of the remaining truffles in the freezer (out of site, out of mind) and I'm telling my family to eat cookies today because I'm throwing them out tonight. Still, I'm doing well with exercise and I've dropped a couple pounds so far. The trick will be to keep them off through the weekend in anticipation of birthday celebrations the following weekend.

I'm in Vancouver and our temperature is temperate but awfully wet. I don't like walking in the rain so I drive those days. I do like to get out but in the winter it's so damn dark here - like now, it looks like it's dusk. ick.

And I hate any indoor exercise Smile

Congratulations Mac, you've been stupendously stalwart keeping on doing it, no visible plateaux and still posting cheerfully!

Mame, keep sipping the tea. In Vancouver you can see the Chinese who are forever snacking and eat some shockingly fattening things, but they are constantly sipping hot water or tea - I'm convinced it's part of the art. Mind you in Vancouver they probably abandon the old ways and drink 'shakes' instead and stack on the pounds!

I've had such a cloggy cold this week that food has been tasteless, and I also didn't feel like going to buy any, so I've been living on soup made out of a whole pile of veggies with the dwindling heel of a wholemeal loaf - I must have lost pounds!!

Thank you, Mame and Clary.

I've had much slower losses this year than last - I started Weight Watchers in May of 2005. I have had quite a few weeks with gains, too. (I don't anyone to think it's been a steady drop!) But you're right, Clary, there haven't been any major plateaus. My average loss is 1.15 per week.

And I am still cheerful about it - because the program works. I resisted starting with it because I didn't know anyone who'd had success with it. Lots of people try it, but don't stick to it, and then blame it on the program. A co-worker asked me what I was doing to lose weight, and when I told her, she said, "Oh, Weight Watchers doesn't work!" I'm living proof that it does.

I toast you all (with bottled water) for fighting the good fight!

That's good news, Mac, I think everyone has their preferred method that works for them. My WLR website is perfect for me, and I'm losing like you, steadily. Keep up the good work!

'scuz me for going off-topic here for a minute, but I've wondered about something.... Mame, in locations where the wintertime sun is low in the sky (such as Vancouver), do you have the same effect with moonlight? We were lit up like daylight here during our recent full moon. What is it like where you are?

Well, the moon is awfully bright but it doesn't light up the sky...

It's awfully gloomy this time of year when it's raining all the damn time - last January we had 29 days of rain out of 31! And this last month we've been getting close to setting a record - blah.

ugh, I'd probably eat to compensate for the gloominess. Actually, that's one of the main reasons I moved away from Vt. It's beautiful and green, but all that green comes from lots and lots of rain and snow. The Burlington area is known for being cloudy and is one the cloudiest cities in the US - tied with Seattle with 58 days of annual sunshine, ugh. cloudiest cities Chicago has 84 days of annual sunshine, still low but better than 58.

I'm still working my way through the mindless eating book. Yesterday was a rainy, dreary day and I couldn't stop thinking about food. I ate the same breakfast as the day before, but I was looking in the fridge for something to eat an hour later. This morning I'm reading chapter whatever and I read that the weather has a direct impact on how much we eat (and what types of things we're looking for). Comfort food is so named for a reason and the rainy, dreary day we had yesterday sent me to the kitchen looking for comfort. I did a fair job of resisting temptation, but I can tell that my breakfast was much more satisfying today (same breakfast).

Eureka, CA was listed as 77, but, hey, what part of it - it's different somewhat inland than by the water. Best to go into a bakery for a latte and pastry...

We're full of gloom today too. Icky drippy gray rainy bleh.

I took one of those stupid little steps that will hopefully have a big effect today. I bought some exercise pants. I was exercising most regularly last summer, and would just dress at home then go straight to the gym. (No available lockers, could change in the bathroom but then have to put my changed-out-of stuff somewhere, etc.) I only have workout shorts, and this was a stupid little mental block. Specifically, I hate shaving my legs in the winter (before you pity my husband, I didn't shave at all ever when I met him at the hippie co-op and that was fine with him), and every time I think of going to the gym I think "ack I have to shave my legs" and it's this whole extra level and my motivation is currently low enough that it's enough to torpedo the whole enterprise. I'm hoping that if I can just toss on some pants I'll get over it and get moving.
