I've been having ominous aches and twinges in my Bad Leg. X-rays show no sign of a new fracture--x rays don't show signs of fracture until the femur spontaneously cracks. Unfortunately x-rays do show that no healing from the spontaneous fracture two and a half years ago has taken place since May. That break is still approximately three-quarters healed.

Tomorrow I'm starting Physical Therapy. The Bone Man feels the discomfort in the leg must be muscular. I disagree, but consented to PT because after 2 1/2 years of pampering the muscles in that leg are weak from being pampered.

The Physical Therapist assures me that "we" can make great progress and that I won't be pushed beyond my limits. We shall see.

Ugh! I hope you feel better soon, Noddy. And I'm crossing fingers and toes that you don't get another break.

Any chance of a second Bone Person's opinion? Will be thinking of you, Noddy.

Clary, be careful on how long you stay at under 1200 cals daily. It's fine for a couple weeks but will eventually cause your metabolism to kick into starvation prevention mode and more than just your weightloss plan could get screwed up.

Does the plan you're following recommend bumping up to at least 1200 cals per day after two weeks?

Osso--

I've had three Bone Men, none of whom have the advantage of having known the family genetic condition as manifested in my grandmother, my aunt and my sister.

Orthopedic Surgeons become Orthopedic Surgeons because they want to fix bones. They want the kids back on the playing fields and the little old ladies walking into Bingo Halls after six weeks of supervised healing.

My bones just take longer to heal and I have to blame the Genetic Lottery, not the well-meaning Bone Men.

The current Bone Man thinks he has the rods and pins positioned so while a bone may break, the sharp edges will stay in place and not go slicing tissue and nerves. In fact, he thinks the leg may not break at all.

I listened politely. He has the same optimistic outlook of the earlier Bone Men, but he doesn't understand the Family Curse.

Thanks for that, JPB. It seems callous to be worrying about pounds when poor Noddy has real problems...
WLR is the website I'm going to - no it doesn't mention upping it, though if I do exercise I get extra calories for that day. It has coincided with colder, nastier weather so maybe the negativity I'm feeling is due to that too! However, I'll give it another week and see if it gets easier; if not I'll add some cals! It tends to be much less fat and protein than I'm used to, which also may make a difference.

Clary--

Not to worry. I have ten-fifteen pounds I'd like to part with.

The notion that my troubles can trump your troubles is a very dumb notion.

Yikes, Noddy. Hope this personal trainer delivers on his promises and ends up being a boon.

I've completely gotten out of the exercise habit and am none too pleased with myself. First it was because I was sick, and I kept losing weight anyway so... haven't weighed myself recently but I really doubt I'm still losing weight. MUST get back to it, no good reason not to.

Sure Noddy, I know what you mean. But I also know that it is a luxury to be worrying about extra pounds if in every other way you are fit and healthy.
Best of luck for the Bone Moan- guess it just takes endless patience!

Clary--

Thanks. Fortunately, as my second mother-in-law observed, I'm good at sitting.

Unfortunately, virtue can be so damn tedious.

Has anyone on this thread tried the method advocated by Tom Venuto? I am going to a website called Weight Loss Resources (good place) and one of the members recommended him.

Sunset just after five means long evenings for nibbling.

My Bone Man has ordered Physical Therapy three times a week. The exercises are much less vigorous than the ones I've been doing at home, but they are more scientific and I think the ones for balance will be a big help.

Spring is only five months away.

I prefer it as a spectator sport.
With me as the spectator.

What's up guys? How's the weight battle going for all of you?

I was very good at Halloween - just ate a few candy corn and a Tootsie Roll pop. Sadly, though I stuck to my guns all week, my weight didn't budge at weigh-in today. Ah well, maybe that means a bigger loss next week, just in time for T'giving.

I'm a pound down from months ago, thus 168. Mumble.

Move, Osso.

Belly dancing. I tried it, somewhere in the mid seventies. Our friend Geri and the veils and the Sultan... got the rest of us to try it (snicker).

Well, and then the rest of us learned the Hustle. Which I then knew how to do when my friend asked me to dance, and then I married him some time later.

I did a painting of that... no, not me and my ex, but of us all at a friend's apartment, practicing the hustle.

Smiles.

No pounds lost recently - but some inches are vanishing ... somehow ... somewhere.

The pants I bought at the end of last winter in anticipation of replacing a pair of fat pants ... pretty pretty Steilmann cords ... I wore them yesterday ... people laughed at me all day as I had to keep hitching them up ... when I got home to get ready for bellydance class ... I pulled them off without undoing the button/clip/zipper. Sort of a good news/bad news thing.
