Belly dance class started on Thursday. My teeth hurt yesterday morning. Things were fine by the afternoon. I mastered a very minor shimmy. I'm not quite ready for the coined belt.

It's working, it's working! I'm wearing pants that had to be retired a couple of years ago!

I accidentally went to a Level 2 class, led by Miss Belly Dance USA 2003, last week (long long story), and hurt almost as much as I did on June 10th - but it was a way better kinda hurt.

Dance on!

Tangent:
The Lovely Bride me a "Belly-gram" at work when I turned forty.
(That was twenty-one years ago. They'd never allow it now.)

Following your tangent George, my co-workers hired a male stripper for my 30th b-day which was 17 years ago. I would have enjoyed it lots more if I weren't being watched by everyone I knew while I was trying to enjoy it... And you're right, it would never happen now. Well, not at work anyway.

So yesterday I go into my gym to get my body fat percentage measured.
There's a space you are supposed to fill on the New York Road Runners site for BFP, and I didn't know mine except an estimate done one year ago-- that was 32 percent. Folks, 32 percentage is obese, a word I have never liked.

So we do the weight-in, 201 (but I'm wearing shorts and a tee-shirt). Blood Pressure - normal, resting heart rate --52 (Trainer looks at me. "52 is a very good resting heart rate for a man your age." I smile. "Fifty thousand miles of biking up and down Oklahoma will do that for you."

Okay, so now he checks the body fat percentage. He shakes his head. We do it again. Hmmmm. He checks the re-set button. One more time......... "Well, " he says," your body fat is 15.6 percent. That puts you in the excellent range for your height and age."

Apparently all the fifty pounds I've lost have been the lard content pounds.

Run slow enough to sing for longer than thirty minutes === burn fat, not carbs.

Joe(this am 198.6 naked. I ran 9 miles home from the gym)Nation

More envy here. This is an American website, so I'm probably supposed to say "good job, keep going!", and stuff like that. But the fact is, you make me feel fat. Please slack off, binge on Bic Macs, and gain back some weight so you're in 2XX pound territory again like the rest of us. Razz

Vacationing with the hamburgers for the past week - hit the pool Tuesday through Friday mornings - and I can still swim over a kilometre at a crack after about 6 years away from the pool. That's a whole lot of good tired.

The whole time I was doing my lengths I could hear my belly dance instructor - engage the abs, engage the abs, engage the abs. Ok, I did, and I didn't sink. Yeah!

Vacationing is good. I highly recommend going to a primitive cabin with one small mirror and no privacy, and working the whole time, (preparing meals, washing dishes, lugging a bucket of water up from the spring, lugging the slop bucket to the latrine, general cleaning, and hikes for good measure), all at 10,000 feet. I was wearing the same two pairs of pants over and over so couldn't tell if they were just stretching or if I was shrinking. Turns out to be the latter. Yay!

Also, I finished my 10-week schedule thingie, and will start another for 12 weeks after a couple of days.

(And yes, all that work really was fun! Satisfying. And the scenery couldn't have been nicer.)
