http://img73.imageshack.us/img73/1443/thecampcloseup0ki.jpgHaving spent the last days of 2005 seated in one of the above chairs listening to the birds and the surf with one ear and an audiobook recording with the other, I have found it a little difficult to return to this present New York City reality.

I am working on it but I would still prefer to be here:

rather than here:http://img73.imageshack.us/img73/7038/gloryroad3zv.jpg

Despite running an average of five miles a day on the beach (there are some huff and puff recordings of one run on the blog) I still managed to gain seven or eight pounds. Four are gone so far and I have stumbled into the gym for five or six days out of this month thus far. Still, I wonder: if there is still some residual beach sand lurking in the treads of your sneakers, aren't you somewhat entitled to feel like you are still on vacation?

mmmmm, It sounds like a wonderful getaway, Joe. It's a tough time of year to return to the city. Good job on keeping up with your running plan.

Is it caffeine?
Perhaps you should wean yourself, 100 ml at a time!

I've noticed a change in the slimming tips on TV these days, they're saying eat what you like when you feel like it but listen to your body and STOP when you are full. Sounds deceptively easy!

no, can't be. i did get coffee when the headache was coming....but no help. but it could be other things - you can get headaches in the first days of no carb diet - sugar withdrawal... and i'm on a day 4 or 5 of an honest diet (only pretense diet before - like i'd eat no carbs until five, then go to town...)

Hey I've been losing weight on eating carbs before noon ONLY and tailing off to veg soup... not good for social life but I haven't got one here!
I guess there are lots of other chemicals in Coke, diet or no. Sounds a good plan to cut it out.

De-Caffeinated Diet Coke gives me and my honey headaches. We drink WAY TOO MUCH regular Diet Coke and Starbucks coffee, I switched to hot water (mmmm delicious. Say 'delicious' on the first sip, your brain begins to believe it.) but I got immediate signs of depression. So now I am weaning myself down. One cuppa, made at home, early and one at four pm to push me to the end of the day.

Last night I looked in the cupboards and the fridge, found nothing that I wanted to eat and didn't eat any of it!

This is progress.

noddy, that's so easy in my cupboard. the only thing there is tea and coffee. hard to eat. that's my best strategy for weightloss - living on my own.

I'm still plugging along with Weight Watchers and water aerobics 2-3 times/week plus the occasional long walk. I'm down 60 pounds as of yesterday's weigh-in.

Gorgeous beach, JoeN. Where is it? I hope it was warm.

wow, mac. you are surely the bestest loser of us all.

i found out a strange thing. My eyes hurt like hell - either from the computer screen radiation, or, since i work on a laptop it's because it's lower - not straight on my eye level. Yesterday I had a migraine- could be the tired eyes, could be lack of caffeine. i tried coffee- no help. today i felt the same headache coming on, i got diet coke and ba bam! it was gone! wow. not only it unclogs drains, it chases migraines away, too!

Thanks dag. I find it hilarious that "loser" has changed meanings so drastically these days.

It sounds as though you need to ration your Diet Coke intake rather than try to cut it out all at once.

Actually! (a bright idea came in defense) - I hardly ever drink any soda when not on a diet. No need. But when I am, it's my treat. Only that and chewing gum - which I normally don't chew either because I hate it in other people. So maybe if this addiction only lasts for a month or so, it won't be the end of the world as I once knew it..?

I am back up to 182 friggin' pounds. D@mn!
But I'm getting back to my regular lifestyle, so that ought to help.
I've switched my workout schedule to emphasize the jogging over
weights. That should help as well.

I'm glad I don't drink soda (or "tonic" as we Bostonians used to call it).
My problem is that with two teenagers in the house, there is always food
around.

Lots of good things happening. WTG Noddy, Mac and MG.

George, I feel your pain. I saw the very same number a few weeks back.

I had an e-mail from one of my old diet group buddies suggesting we start our group back up again beginning Monday. Others chimed in so I'll start journaling, exercising, watching, planning, etc again on Monday. I've gotten lazy with evening snacking. One trick I used to use was coming online to get away from the TV and refrigerator. I compete with two teenagers for evening access to the PCs and internet. I might have to start pulling rank.

My go-to-meeting jeans were looser this morning than they were the last time I had them on.
