
Having spent the last days of 2005 seated in one of the above chairs listening to the birds and the surf with one ear and an audiobook recording with the other, I have found it a little difficult to return to this present New York City reality.

Despite running an average of five miles a day on the beach (there are some huff and puff recordings of one run on the blog) I still managed to gain seven or eight pounds. Four are gone so far and I have stumbled into the gym for five or six days out of this month thus far. Still, I wonder: if there is still some residual beach sand lurking in the treads of your sneakers, aren't you somewhat entitled to feel like you are still on vacation?
