Here's Mrs. Sheehans response to the e-mail. Appears it is from her sons inlaws and that side of the family, not those that are blood kin.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/8/12/2161/64863

Excerpt:

"Still putting out the O'Reilly fires of me being a traitor and using Casey's name dishonorably, my in-laws sent out a press conference disagreeing with me in strong terms; which is totally okay with me, because they barely knew Casey. We have always been on separate sides of the fence politically and I have not spoken to them since the elections when they supported the man who is responsible for Casey's death. The thing that matters to me is that my family: Casey's dad and my other 3 kids are on the same side of the fence that I am."

Anyways, as far as the vacation thing, I have a question. Below is a Google satellite pic of the Crawford White House.

Where on that darn "ranch" does he go to clear all that brush?

Maybe little elves haul it in each night. Either that or maybe Ms. Sheehan hauls it in with plans to set it ablaze and burn Bush out. He has to clear it out before she gets the chance.

Shame! shame! on republican party chauvinists who attack the grieving mother of a dead soldier because she dared to disagree with the president and commander and chief who sent her son to war.

Who attacked her? I have not read anything on this thread attacking her. Now, maybe her motivations, but she makes that fair game when she elects to make herself a public figure with her protest. Wouldn't you agree?

Don't get me wrong. I understand she is grieving. I sympathize with anyone who loses a child for whatever reason. But what exactly does she want from Bush? An apology? Did Kennedy, Johnson or Nixon go around apologizing personally for every soldier lost in Vietnam? Should they have met and been forced to answer each family's questions concerning the reasons we were in Vietnam? Of course not.

Did Clinton meet personally with each family of each of the people killed in hostile actions under his watch as commander in chief and answer their questions about why their child was placed in a position to get himself/herself killed? Of course not.

So why does she think she should be treated any differently? What does she really want? And how is asking that question attacking her?

Here's a perspective on Bush's vacation in Texas that nobody seems to have hit upon. He vacations frequently while the soldiers are required to spend time away from their families, usually one or more years, fighting this war in Iraq and Afghanistan.

As Bush has claimed, being president is "hard work."

Costal Rat, Bush chauvinists have attacked the mother's motives on this thread, which follows their usual pattern of attacking anyone who disagrees or criticizes Bush et al.

However, the mother must be surprised that her little attempt to talk to Bush has mushroomed into a cause celeb. That, too, is the practice of partisans of all political stripes. They use whatever person or event that will support their cause. It's the national political pastime.

Here is another perspective on Bush's vacation. He may be on "vacation" at the ranch, but he is still "on the job". He, like our soldiers who spend time away from their families, volunteered for the job.

As Bush claimed, being president is "hard work". (Notice the period comes outside of the quotes. This is proper punctuation, not inside the quotes as you typed it. Sorry, I couldn't help myself. I just had to point that out. Forgive me? Smile )

Can anyone say why Bush is taking so much more 'vacation' than any previous president, then?

Because "it's hard work." It's the one cliche Bush can ad lib without scrambling it.

CR, If my error in punctuation is your biggest issue, you and your comrads have more problems than just this president's "vacation" time.

BBB, I am sure she is a bit surprised at the intensity of the attention. But come on, any intelligent person would have to know that when you camp out next to the PRESIDENT'S ranch, it will draw national attention. It is not exactly the same as someone camping out in front of my house to protest my poor lawn care skills. Laughing

And I agree they have attacked her motives. Those motives are fair game, just as the motives of republicans who called for Clinton's ouster years ago were fair game. That is my point. Nobody is attacking her for what she is doing, just attacking and questioning her motives. She has every right to camp out, protest, or whatever in front of Bush's ranch. But questioning her motives for doing so is not attacking her personally.

Of course, we may have different views as to what constitutes attacking her. Maybe you can give me an example of someone on this thread who has attacked her personally (not her motives).

i applaud her for standing up for what she believes in. i don't agree with her, but hey this is america, she has every right to do what she is doing. good luck!

and to agree and expand on coastal rats thoughts, i think meeting with her would set a precedent. what happens when the next person shows up and the next and the next? if he didn't meet with them, then they would say, why did he meet with her and not me. it would be a huge consumption of the president's time if in fact every family member of a fallen soldier on his watch wanted an audience. don't get me wrong, it isn't a waste of his time because any soldier and their family is important, i just think it is an unfeasible consumption of his time.

There are protestors where Bush is - every day. Go to the White House - they're there - every day. Follow Bush anywhere - they're there - every day. He may not notice too many of them in his cotton wool wrapping.

Attention to this particular protestor is interesting.

C.I., I was truly only having a bit of fun. In another thread, some Bush haters have been picking on Baldimo for misspelling the word "welfare". Not you, mind you. So I just thought I would return the favor and maybe some of those who have made a big deal over that would see the silliness of correcting postings in a forum.

Have a good day.

Actually, I think you are correct Kicky. Now that I think about it, C.I.'s punctuation was correct.

Gosh, I think that was my first mistake this month. I had better watch myself. I am getting sloppy.

C.I. --- I guess I owe you one. If you ever get to SC, I guess the drinks are on me.

CR, No need. I make grammatical mistakes all the time. But if you're ever out to the west coat (San Francisco), I'll spring for a drink or two.
