Bear is definetly mentally back with us. Told the male nurse he wanted 6 Diladad, 5 Ambien, 6 Diazapam (valium)...
Nurse said "What did he say?"
I said, "He's ordering a cocktail."
Nurse told Bear, "That'll certainly give ya a kick."
Bear said, "Yep. And we haven't even got to the tequila, yet."
Resting well. He was glad to see the cubs this evening. They hadn't seen him since pre-surgery. They are old enough to understand a lot of what is going on and I've kept them informed in non-alarming way. Haven't sensed any anxiety on their part past the first couple of nights. I agree that the not knowing was scarier. Once there was a diagnosis and plan of action they felt relieved.
He's being much nicer to the nurses.
His male nurse explained the rules to him this morning and let him know he expected Bear to treat all of the staff with respect. Course, at this time Bear was mentally together so I'm thinking this probably confused him and made him wonder why the nurse was telling him that. But, he did comply.
Took him his cd player and several "Yes" cd's in case he wants to shut out the sounds of the monitors. His heart monitor was going off several times while we were there tonight. Had some extra beats going. Nurse drew blood for potassium / calcium. Will know more in the morning, but didn't seem to be a continued problem. Didn't happen again for the last 30 minutes we were there.
Okay, gonna let you tuck me in now.
Good night.
Love,
squinney
(Husker - the pic line / IV is in his upper arm and goes through the vein across his chest to the top of the heart. Thanks for the info and reassurance. Good to know it's not a complicated thing. I wouldn't handle the neck one well at all! )
