A most dangerous time.

Squinney
Squinney, a friend just called me from California. She said she was hospitalized last month for a badly broken wrist and was given Oxycodone for pain. She said it made her hallucinate and act like a crazy women. Within a few hours after the drug was stopped, the symptoms disappeared. She also said her memory of the period she was on the drug was very dim. That also changed after the drug was stopped.

Hang in there squinney. We are all watching this closely and are hoping and praying that it turns out well. Take care of yourself. Try to take the time to eat and sleep as normally as you can.
Sozobe wrote about preconceived notions: rocker dude = must be a druggie. Here is a story that the Bear will find amusing.
Andy is one of my employees. He was about 26 when this happened. He is the singer in a goth band consisting of about four guys. When they tour, they travel in a 15 passenger van. They were in Indiana or someplace like that and stopped to eat at a Denny's, quite late at night after a show. They are a bit scary looking with spiked, dyed hair and more than a few body piercings and a bunch of tattoos. As soon as they drove out of the parking lot they were pulled over by three local cop cars. None of the members smokes, drinks or does drugs. Andy is, in fact (to my dismay), a Republican. The police asked if they could search the van. Andy said okay, providing they could bring whatever was requested out of the van rather than allowing the police inside to possibly plant something. The police agreed. And so the band cleaned out about five days worth of trash which they left piled next to the road beside the police cars. McDonald's, Wendy's, TacoBell.
Best wishes to you and the cubs from your neighbor in Virginia. -johnboy-

Actually it's been nice to jot a few lines to keep you updated. No matter how tired, it has been great to know you all are there for us. Your support has been enormously helpful!!

As far as the pain meds... He's been on Diladad (sp?) and a little atavan the whole time. They tried morphine in OR, but he got hives, so cut that one fast.

Doc's not sure what was causing it. He's still on same pain meds now and is SO much better today. He's tired and groggy, but at least he recognizes us. He understands what is going on, where he is, the year, etc. Nurse (6'3" 200 lb male who's sweet as can be) said he asked him questions this morning to assess his mental state and went through some of the questions. I said, "Oh no, don't tell me you asked him who the president is!"

Nurse said "Yeah, but I prefaced it by saying I didn't care what his political affiliation is."

He gave the right answer without going into fits again, so all is good. Whew!

Doc isn't concerned about the nodules in the abdominal area. Fungus in lungs being treated by antibiotics. Probably come home with Pic line and they'll show me how to administer antibiotics through it for several weeks after he's discharged.

(Husker - did you have a pic line?)

Anyway, heading back for the 8:30 - 10 visitation. He's doing much better due to his strong will and all of your positive thoughts and prayers.

Will likely leave ICU tomorrow or Friday. Be on floor a day or two and then should be home by Sunday or Monday unless something comes back different on the nodule labs/pathology.

Love,
squinney

Squinney, such good news. Once the Bear is out of danger and roaring again, Squiney's well-being can get more needed attention.

Thanks, Squinney. That's a relief to hear that he's doing better. Scary to think this came on so quickly and was so serious. Hoping you can relax a little now.

<Glad they found him a big nurse!>

Squinny
(Husker - did you have a pic line?) yep
I did it at home for a total of 8 weeks on the IV for antibiotics - if bear is going to do some at home - honestly it's not as difficult as it sounds to change the meds on the IV (pic line) long as the Bear is friendly.

Last time they almost put in a central line (that one's in the neck) because of the holiday most of the right people for general purpose Pic-lines are not in - LOL - I would rather have a pic-line than a line in my neck anyday.

Look at that - me and the Bear have something in common - I react real bad to morphine - like it really turns me in to a very nasty(bad) person. One time reaction is enough to teach anyone it's not a drug for me.

If you wanna talk about any of this home-care stuff - I'm pretty much available to talk - on my dime even.

ps - keep an eye on the cubs bears sometimes when the daddy bear is sick the cubs start thinking wierd stuff.
