Yes indeed. Sorry to hear that bear is still in the hospital. Personally, I don't blame him trying to break out, but of course that isn't good for him right now. I hope everything turns out ok in the end, and I want to hear all the "pinched nurses' asses" stories when it's all over.

{{{{{{{{{{{{Bear hugs all around.}}}}}}}}}}}}

You have had good advice which I will emphasize--take good care of yourself. We are all with you in spirit, sending love and wishes for only the best results. I guess that old saying is true: "You can't hold a good man down."

Squinny, sending hugs to you and the family!

I don't think he is detoxing either...I think the combination of drugs they are giving him and being cooped up in the hospital is enough to make people act funny. When I had my surgery, they gave me Tylonol 3 w/ Codine. Well, the codine made me puke and gave me hallucinations. No joke. So maybe something they are giving him is causing this reaction. Something to think about.

Be strong and give Bear a big hug for me!

squinney,

I had the same situation 4 years ago. They needed to do a large incision to take out my gallbladder because of "adhesions". This extended my stay in the hospital by 3-4 days. After a large incision, no lifting or driving for two weeks.

I do not want to make comparisons. (Every case is different.) However, my recovery went well and I hope that your husband's does also.

Ah, squinney, I'm so sorry to hear that it was a rough day yesterday. You and Bear and the Cubs are in my thoughts.

I can't tell you how amazing I find it that you can take the time to let us know how Bear's doing. Hugs to you all.

Sorry to hear this is more complicated than expected, Squinney. I've been thinking about both of you. Trying to envision calm and healing for Bear. (((HUGS)))

Ah, thanks for your post wandeljw. Those adhesions had me quite worried, evidently it's something that just happens occasionally?

Warm wishes to the Bear and Squinney.

sozobe,

The adhesions in my case were caused by scar tissue from previous abdominal surgery. If Bear had previous abdominal surgery, this may be the reason they could not use the simpler laparoscopy.

Bella Dea is on to something. When I was in IC for two weeks years ago, I started hallucinating on the codeine pain relief drugs. The only drug that didn't cause this scary effect was morphine, which is the only drug I can tolerate. Oddly, I hated the morphine rush. I would make a pathetic junkie.

Have you asked Bear's doctor about a possible drug reaction causing hallucinations?

The codeine drug hallucinations were really scary. The furniture floated around the room as I moved my eyes. People talked to me from the ceiling. These were only a few of the effects. It's enough to make one want to escape the room and the ports. I had 11 ports so if I tried to pull them out, it caused a major life threatening problem.

The reaction thing is something to think about. My sister has been staying us due to a severe sciatica attack and bad knees that have severely limited her ability to take care of herself. The strongest medication the doctor prescribed was Percocet. We were soon taking her by ambulance to the emergency room. There they were not helpful in correcting the problem, but the diagnosis was a severe anxiety/panic attack......it made her just want to bolt and escape whatever demon was chasing her.

These attacks kept occuring with the doctors less than interested in the problem. We did our own research and suggested she lay off the Percocet for a bit.....used some Tylenol III in its stead. As soon as the Percocet cleared her system, no more panic attacks.

(She is now on the mend and off of almost all pain medication.)

An unusual drug reaction may not be the problem at all, but its something to look into.

Ugh. Never had hallucinations, thank god.

Tell those folks to eliminate their pre-conceived notions about rockers. Sheesh. Just because a guy uses an Ozzy avatar....

One would have to be loony to choose to live in West Texas.

Yep, Pethidine did it for me. I felt as if I had drunk a gallon of strong coffee, and was as jittery as hell. That was the occasion I vaguely remember being walked back to my bed. God knows where I'd been.

They put me on Morphine, which caused me to continually dream that I was falling down a lift (elevator) shaft. Terrified to go to sleep, I started pulling everything out again, because nobody would listen to me.

In the end, I stopped pressing on the Morphine button, and made do without painkiller. It was fine while I remained still, but the Physio kept coming in to get me up and about.

I'll bet that it's his painkiller(s).

When I had my appendix out I had a very bad reaction to the pain medication, and could not stop moving. I told the nurse to stop giving it. I'll bet Bear is reacting to the medication.

My mom's a nurse, and talks about this idea a lot, how the medical establishment has their preconceived notions and uses them to make treatment decisions. Rocker dude = must be a druggie.

sozobe,

As a hospital inpatient, I faced erroneous preconceived notions involving alcohol, drugs, and HIV (only because of abdominal symptoms and weight loss).

It is discouraging when that happens, but most medical professionals are okay. Bear needs a nurse like your mother or maybe Shewolf.

Nah. Shewolf would either a) offer some "extra-special" painkillers or b) enjoy providing the sponge bath way too much.
