and we just had another "royal visit" in canada. it'll be interesting to see how soon charles and camilla will make an appearance in canada.
years ago when the "royal couple "came to visit kingston even i stood and cheered (mildly) and we went to the shore of lake ontario to show the royal yacht to a young ehbeth. what made us do that ?

if you must, read the publicity release by the canadian government on the "royal visit" :

...ROYAL VISIT CANADA 2005...

No. he's a tough as old boots. No, simply that he has a balcony. The IN people have balconies and they stand on them and wave.

With a little work on your house, McTag (e.g. in the small bedroom upstairs) you could be MEGA-IN! Laughing

and - besides organic gardening, which I am for as well - I tend to nod agreeably to anyone who even notices architecture and urban planning, whether I agree with him or not on any given building.

My main beef is the judgemental nature of the word slag.

My next concern is I cannot decide whether or not to use an 'e' in judgemental. I remember that one can now use either, or one could last time I reviewed the matter. I've used an 'e' for years, after equal years of no 'e'. Set didn't use one earlier today, and it looked ok. Mulling this over...

You can now spell it judgemental instead of judgmental?

I feel mountains moving....

Well, now I can't find it online. Pfui. I know the 'e' was allowed for a while. The more serious question is which do I prefer, whether my preference is allowed or not.

Style counts for a great deal.

You don't have to find the link, Ossobuco. I believe you.

Well, that certainly changes things for me. Before when I saw someone spell it with two e's, I pounced and declared, "Aha. Mistake!"

Now, when I see someone spelling it "judgemental", I'll have to be less judgmental.

Incidentally, how did we ever get to the point that we had to drop the e to spell judgment, but we had to keep it in when we spelled bereavement or engagement?

I think it's just mental to spell it judgmental.

It looks so clunky to me.

According to Oxford's Dictionary of Modern American Usage...

judgment. A. Spelling. Judgment is the preferred form in American English and in British legal texts, even as far back as the 19th century. Judgement is prevalent in British nonlegal texts and was thought by H.W. Fowler to be the better form.
