So, did y'all watch last night? What did you think?

I'm encouraged! We all predicted this, it was a long time coming, but looks like the producers did a good job of finally shaking things up. The last couple of seasons, people knew what was coming and planned for it. This time, they managed to get people off balance right away, and they still voted off a strong person/ threat but there seem to be signs that this will stray a bit from the formula it had settled into.

I have immediately taken a dislike to Tom, who said so confidently that they should go to the new beach -- dumb, dumb, dumb! I mean, no matter what, the original camp was built by 20 people, the new one would be built by 9. Duhhhhhhhh...

I see a freaks and geeks theme shaping up. I think Cody and Angie will be around for a while, and that Cody made a risky but smart decision by not picking her -- if they banded together right away, they'd be ostracized by the rest, but this way they're set to band together down the road when it'll be more interesting.

Oh and losing the fire!! I really felt badly for them.

I also really like that they have decent shoes, but otherwise just the fancy clothes they were wearing. That's part of what got me thinking freaks vs. beauty queens -- the whole thing about who was wearing practical t-shirts and pants and who was wearing fetching scraps of fabric.

You are the last person on this site I would have suspected of watching Survivor, soz.

I'm sorry it had to be you.

I watched!

That whole picked last/not picked thing was weird - too reminiscent of public school sports - which, I suppose, why everyone was tearing up.

I would have loved to see the nutty singing english teacher on a team.

The picked last/ not picked part is another reason that I think the freaks/ populars is gonna be a thing. Gets your sympathy going for the freaks (not that they actually are) early.

Meanwhile, the two not-pickeds were interesting -- nutty singing gal and totally hunky football captain type. Who looked utterly mystefied.

Oh get off your high horse Gus

<reaching through computer to tear off cover of "Care and Feeding of Capyberas" to reveal Barbra Cartland novel>

Hunky football guy not being picked was strange. I've been wondering if those two will show back up again sometime.....

Cody had been lobbying to get rid of him first, so I guess that's what was up. Lots of plans to exclude him, and then wacky singing gal had already rubbed them the wrong way with the wacky singing.

I'm going through the profiles now... lots of homecoming kings, lettered in this sport, captain of that... yep, yep, shaping up.

And Tom's 3 kids are 8, 6, and 4! Geez. The 8 yr old has a cochlear implant. Hmm. He's active in the Alexander Graham Bell Association. Hmmm. (I didn't know this before I took a dislike to him!) (AGB is not one of my favorite organizations...)

Soz, what did you think of "Return to Gilligan's Island?

I felt the Skipper showed a bit of interest in Mrs. Howell.

And I don't think Mr. Howell even picked up on it.

It's going to be a true survivor story...

Holy cow! They flipped the outrigger and lost everything!!

I had to run that back and watch.....

(I knew the bossy one would be the first to go. Who didn't?)

(I keep saying Cody, it's actually Coby.)

Yeah, I was looking away when the boat went over, saw 'em all in the water, was confused, and then uh-oh.... did it show it going over? Anyone's fault?

It is my view point that the professor was an idiot/savant. He could make a dentist drill out of coconuts and vines, but he couldn't fix the 3 foot hole in the boat.

I watched Survivor for about 15 minutes once.

The annoying singing woman: No surprise that no one picked her for their team.

The "outcast" who was picked last for her team, the one with all the tattoos, got herself into an alliance of five. I think she's "safe" for a little while, but she will undoubtedly have insecurity issues for however long she lasts.

The first one voted off at tribal council: The strong woman who put a large target on her own back; the strong woman who won the first immunity necklace; the strong woman who was telling everyone what to do [e.g., work two hours, rest one hour]. No surprise! LOL

I agree that the other team was stooooopid; voluntarily moving themselves from the settled beach to an unknown beach; losing their fire reward in the bottom of the lagoon.

Soz, Thanks for starting the new thread.

I, too, was mystified about the football guy not being chosen. On the other hand, I woulda thrown the singing teacher out of the boat. There's geeks, and then there's just plain weird.

Demographically speaking, an African American man has never won. How do you see the demographics?
