I am currently on estrostep fe and it works fine for me, all my life i've been 115 pounds and after I had my baby a year ago I kept about 18 pounds more and now I am 135 pounds approx and I've been on estrostep for about a year and i've never gained weight because trust me, I've been trying to get a little larger but I've had no side effects at all.
Actually there is one but it might just be my own body and this might be why I can't gain weight. The side effect I have is having to go to the bathroom on a daily basis. I hear it's healthy anyway but it seems like before the birthcontrol pills, I had more control and now it seems like on a daily basis I have to go and sometimes I don't want to go. SO that's my only drawback and compared to what I've heard other women say, Id much rather have the bathroom problem than deal with weight gain or hair loss or blood clots or whatever else people say they get.
Anyway, from me, I think it's a really good pill and I am glad I never went with another brand.

Well I never experienced any hair loss and still havent but I believe each person has different symptoms, I would suggest you go to the doctor cause maybe the dosage is too high for you, they may need to give you a smaller dosage. If that is the only problem you are experiencing then that's pretty good. I mean I wouldn't want to lose my hair at all but if that's the only problem then you might not be doing so bad. From what I read after having a baby you lose hair anyway, I believe its due to the hormones being out of whack, check into that.

littleone, hair loss is common after having a baby. you may want to call your doc to check, but my sis in law experienced it as well as my old boss. it is just one of the beautiful things pregnancy does to you (and post pregnancy).

Estrostep FE
Hey ladies, I don't reply much, but i find the replies and info very helpful so i thought I'd give my two cents worth on my experience with Estrostep FE. One little note to the lady with hair loss (littleone520 i think)...i had serious hair loss after i had both my kids, i actually had a near bald spot at each temple!! All my life I've had thick, long healthy hair, even during pregnancy then, little by little after i had the babies it was slowly falling out. I was a little scared but had read that this was a possibility for some women. Eventually it grew back and it's fine now, my youngest is 3 and a half. The funny thing is my hair grew back curlier and seems a little more coarse now, it seems to have more frizz now whereas before it was just thick and wavy. I think my hair grew back the same texture i had as a child -naturally curly. I've learned to work with it and actually NEVER have to get a perm now!
Estrostep...I am really liking it, I don't seem as tired as i was w/o it, my moods are better and I have no weight gain. It hasn't done much for my skin but i will give it time. Does anybody know if Estrostep is suppose to clear up acne? Just wondering. I was put on it for several reasons...NOT for birthcontrol (i have a tubal ligation) mainly to regulate my wacked hormones. I don't like being "on medication" and have always tried to take care of myself via proper diet and exercise but my hormones were really giving me problems. Estrostep has definitely helped, i have a co-pay but i think it's worth it, i tried "generic" and was sicker than a dog, felt bloated etc.
One thing i found odd was while on vacation this summer i ran out of pills, so I was w/o them for a good 3 weeks or so then had to start the new pack after my period started. So probably a month w/o them. (remember i don't need the birth control). when i started over again, with a new pack i had mood swings, severe lethargy (even after sleep), acne break outs and a little unexplained sadness. The only thing i could figure was that my body was trying to get regulated again. Could anybody verify that?? Is that a possibility? I guess my two questions with this reply are: does Estrostep clear acne? and if you go off a pack then back on, how does that effect the body? Thank you for your input.

hmm shecat, i dont have any advice for you other than to wait three months. if you went off it for a short period of time, it can still take up to three months to readjust back. you might want to give it a little time and then see how you do.

estrostep
I've been on Estrostep Fe for 4 months, and during the first month I had some spotting, which I know is normal. After the first month, I never had spotting until now...the 4th month I've been on the pill. Is this normal? I've never missed a pill and I almost always take it at the same exact time everday. I have been stressing out more because school is just around the corner, could that be the reason for the spotting? If there is spotting, can you get pregnant?
Thank you for all your help, this message board is great.

Weight and Birth Control Effectiveness
Hi! I am in my second month on Estrostep FE and I like it, despite moodiness and constant breast tenderness (I hope these side effects will go away, but if they don't, it's a small price to pay...).
My post has to deal with a post from much earlier on in this forum - the one concerning birth control being less effective in women who are overweight. I read that and almost went into shock. The post read that women with a BMI of about 30 or above are at risk for this, and my BMI comes to 28.
Should I seriously worry about this, or am I protected? My boyfriend and I are committed and have used the withdrawal method on top of my birth control, but maybe we need to revert to condoms....?
Thanks,
-Molly

Health is the essential prerequisite for success in all aspects of life, and for realizing the four ideals that guide human life - moral living, prosperity, fulfilling beneficial desires and liberation from grief. Man seeks to live happily and peacefully, but happiness and peace are not won from worldly activities. The body that yearns to be healthy and secure is subject to disease, decay and death. However, the Indweller, the human soul, within the body is not born nor does it die. The body is the temple of God. Hence, it is the duty of man to keep the temple in good condition.

I have been looking all over the web to see if any other women have had hair loss since taking Estrostep. I have had a lot of hair loss since I started taking it two months ago.

Been on Estrostep 2 years
Hi, I've been on Estrostep for 2 years and am considering going off of it.
I am tired all the time (I never even thought that could be a symptom until I read a post here!) and I've had a 30-lb weight gain... but I was in a car accident and immobile for 3 months... the problem is that I can shake the weight off and I'm wondering if Estrostep could have something to do with that. Also, I'm just not big on having medications in my body. I let the dr. bully me into it last time... but I'm standing up to her tomorrow. No more pills!

estrostep
I am on my 2nd month of estro step and unlike all other pills, it hasnt made me sick.
However, I didn't have a period last month (my first month) - just a day that I basically had a spot -literally. Now this month, I should be having a period starting today, but nothing yet. I took a pregnancy test last month and it was negative.
Has anyone else had this problem??
Also, I think the pills are causing me to be very very tired ... and of course a little moody..

It can make you very light (wonderful side effect!) and tired (not so wonderful side effect). Like with all pills you need to weigh the benefits against the disadvantages.
Any time you throw up or use the bathroom a lot you weaken the effectiveness of the pill. Simply because you are moving things more quickly through your body. Enough to cause pregnancy? It depends. Everyone is different. Where you might be fine someone else would get pregnant on the spot. I suggest that if you need to take a laxative or when you are throwing up/diarrhea you use a condom.

I have been taking Estrostep for about 2 months now. I have some side effects that I'm trying to work through...nausea, crankiness, feeling tierd. Sometimes I do experience chest pains. But I haven't experienced any hair loss, weightgain, or any other side effects. I'm in the 3 week of taking the pills for this month, and the side effects I feel usually occur in the 3rd week...
I don't know if any of that helps, but reading some of the replies here has helped me to understand how it effects other women.

"Estro-mess"?
I have been taking Estrostep for 2 1/2 years now, and have been happy with the way it cleared up my skin and does it's job in terms of preventing pregnancy. I have noted that in the last 2 years, my energy levels have been down considerably but that could be attributed to joining the "real world" and life in general.
Also, I have been more moody and depressed in the last two years than I've ever been before, but again I assumed that that was attributed to a combination of factors. Recently, a friend of mine that sells birth control (including Estrostep) said that Estrostep is referred to in the medical field as "Estro-mess" because of the emotional problems it causes in women. He said this is commonly known, and the physicians he works with tend to hesitate when prescribing it because of the depression and mood swing severity it can cause. He claims that if a physician knows of any past depression, manic behavior, or emotional instability they will not prescribe Estrostep. Has anyone else heard this? I know birth control of all types causes mood swings, but has anyone else heard if it's true that Esrostep has this reputation of being worse than the rest?

Nope. In fact, my doctor put me on it to control PMDD (pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder).
