Sources: Airstrike may have killed bin Laden's No. 2

(CNN) -- A CIA airstrike on a building in Pakistan may have killed Osama bin Laden's most-trusted aide, sources said.

The building where Ayman al-Zawahiri was thought to be is in Damadola, a small village near the Afghan border.

...

Wouldn't that be nice?

Pakistan has got 200 nuclear bombs, and an unstable government which is trying hard to keep the lid on potential insurgency within its own borders, while at the same time has an uneasy truce with its neighbour India over disputed territories.

Now the USA decides to bomb it.

Another triumph for US foreign policy.

Uh-oh! Bad news for Ticomaya. Wrong guy! They missed him again! Of course they bombed that small village into a dirt pile and probably killed a lot of innocent people in the process but what the hay?! Georgie is happy! His supporters are thrilled.

Onward & upward.... now we can kill this guy again! Embarrassed

Bad news for the world, MK. It appears you are happy to have this guy, the visible leader of al Qaeda, remain alive. Says quite a bit about you.

Though I would like to hear the results of the forensic tests before reaching the conclusion it wasn't him.

Ayman al-Zawahiri was not in the village on the border with Afghanistan, Pakistan officials said, and the US military has denied knowledge of the attack.

Him? Them. There was a score of people killed, among them the usual women and children.

Already we are hearing in our news "sources say there were no reports of US aircraft active in the area at the time"

Which translates as "Sorry, we missed, er, it wasn't us"

(What I meant was that ealier it was an "US air attack against Osama's number 2" in the international media, now it is "a CIA missile strike on a village near the Afghan border".

Just a question - but what are we doing???

Is anyone searching for Ben Laden, or is Afghanistan off limits.

So confusing...

No,nobody is loking for him.
Afghanistan is off limits and the 19,000 US soldiers there are all there having tea and cookies and playing football in the sun!!!

As a point of fact,no they cant.
There isnt any sattelite with a camera that sensitive.

Also,Its obvious that you have never been to Afghanistan!
That is a country almost the size of Texas, with some of the roughest terrain on the planet.
It has caves where you could hide entire armies.
And sattelites cant see into those caves.
It has mountain passes and valeys that must be explored on foot, because you cant get helicopters into the area.

It is extremely difficlut to send troops out into parts of the country, simply because of the altitude.

Now,I personally think that OBL is dead, but until we can explore every mile of every cave, then we wont know.

Here is an idea for you,go to Afghanistan, see what the country looks like, see what the terrain is like, see how difficult it is to operate, then come back and give us your expertise about how we find on person in a country the size of texas.

Or,I will give you a name of a person in Texas.I will call her and tell her you are looking for her,and she can hide anywhere she wants,as long as she stays in Texas.
Lets see you find her.

It hasn't? They sure have all kinds of military types and/or reporters on TV (Fox, CNN, CNBC, etc.) every hour talking about it here. And all the reports are it is inconclusive at this time who was in the house that was hit. They are still hopeful that al-Zawahiri is among the dead.

You certainly have better sources than I have.

CNN reported here at 10:09 GMT that Al-Zawahiri was according to official Pakisztani sources not among 18 killed in airstrike.

Sorry for my post.

Everybody knows the media is going to often get it wrong the first several hours and sometimes days of a news event. The policy seems to be report any stupid thing anybody says as fact and just amend your reports as additional information comes in without acknowledging any previous error. I suspect you are reporting your sources as accurately as I am reporting mine Walter, and this story will be changing a lot over the next several days.

CNN and FOX announced their roundtable talks on Friday night via email as the " biggest terror-related story since 9/11".

It seems we get lots of reports saying we might have got him, but we need to see if we actually did.

It's the best part of our on-demand news world. Why wait for the details when you can report what might have happened? Gotta have something to keep the talking heads busy.

Shame we didn't get him though.
