This is the best movie line. Ever.

It's from a 1940 film called "The Ghost Breakers."

Yes, this is just the sort of movie Just Wonders likes.

IN adition to Bob Hope, it also stars Willie Best, in his typical role.

Who was Willie Best? How's this:
Quote:
Actor whose 30's and 40's roles as shuffling, illiterate, superstitious porter, stableboy, chauffeur and the like served only to bolster Holly- wood's then-unchallenged stereotype of the black male as somehow sub- human.

Just the sort of movie Just Wonders and Republicans love to endorse.

No, we will never agree so long as the only thing the Left can bring to the debate are cheap shots like this:

Frankly, I think an apology from you to JW is in order.

Oh you have got to be kidding! This whole thread is nothing but cheap shots. Alluding that democrats are zombies is not a cheap shot?

I'll give you that hyper partisans are like zombies, but that goes for any party, including and especially, yours.

Let's start the day, for inspiration, with a compassionate martial hymnette.

Jesus with a jacknife
tellin' Pat to whack life
it's the latest fashion
in christian compassion

gonna spread freedom
on a river of bleedin
sacred wasting
to get the Word a hastening

Yankee dugouts
righteous rubouts
torture quaint law
Falwell Fatwa

"They'll have to court-martial the whole company," one soldier told Boyle. "I say right away they can start typing up my court-martial."
The GI's told Boyle they objected not only to what they saw as a suicidal mission but to the war effort itself. Their commanding officer wouldn't let them wear t-shirts with peace symbols, they complained. "He calls us hypocrites if we wear a peace sign," one GI said. "[As if] we wanted to come over here and fight. Like we can't believe in peace, man, because we're carrying [an M-16] out there." Another soldier piped in: "I always did believe in protecting my own country, if it came down to that. But I'm over here fighting a war for a cause that means nothing to me." Historians say so-called "combat refusals" became increasingly common in Vietnam after 1969. Soldiers also expressed their opposition to the war in underground newspapers and coffee-house rap sessions. Some wore black armbands in the field. Some went further.
Fragging. When one American killed another American, usually a superior officer or an NCO, the term "fragging" came into use. Although the term simply meant that a fragmentation grenade was used in the murder, it later became an all encompassing term for such an action. It is known that "fraggings" did occur during Vietnam, but the precise number is uncertain.
"During the years of 1969 down to 1973, we have the rise of fragging - that is, shooting or hand-grenading your NCO or your officer who orders you out into the field," says historian Terry Anderson of Texas A & M University. "The US Army itself does not know exactly how many...officers were murdered. But they know at least 600 were murdered, and then they have another 1400 that died mysteriously. Consequently by early 1970, the army [was] at war not with the enemy but with itself."

For a "compassionate martial hymnette", it sounds a lot like " Subterranean Homesick Blues" to me. Look out, kid, you're gonna get hit!

This thread was started so that conservatives could have one place--count it--ONE place--to enjoy successes, make their criticisms, and yes, get in their licks, without flaming other threads. The Left has dozens and dozens and dozens of threads, complete with inflammatory titles, where they can and do take their shots at the Right.

You know I like you a lot Freeduck. But if you don't like what you see in this thread, why come in here? If we are taking intentional shots at other members that violate TOS, that's one thing. But with very very few exceptions, that hasn't been done here. Nor have we been unduly rude or flaming on those threads specifically designed for the Left and, and when asked not to post our point of view there, we have mostly complied. ( can't help it if those threads then became so boring that they all died. Yes, that is a cheap shot, but I couldn't resits. Smile)

We have welcomed any from the Left who are genuinely interested in discussing any subject brought up in here or who question or challenge our take in it. Those who come in just to take their shots and flame are just plain rude.

Just goes to show. The Right has manners. The Left doesn't. Smile

But it was opened to all posters a long time ago. You are free to get your licks in but this is not the "flame with impunity" thread. You should not expect that nasties can go unanswered simply because the thread title says "Bush supporters" and expect those who are not Bush supporters to abide by rules that you exempt yourselves from.

Go ahead and take your cheap shots. But don't cry and demand apologies when you get some back at you. Like you said, you guys started this thread and you set the tone for it. If you don't like how nasty it gets, it's within your power to change that.

Yes it was, again so that we could have a dialogue about various topics posted here. And all are welcome to do that. Tico has politely and respectfully requested that those who just want to post leftwing propanda and diatribes against the right do so elsewhere.

Then you think we should have been able to go onto those threads designed for Lefties to be able to vent and express their views and (cough) successes also? It is fair for us to respect their wishes to back off there but it is unreasonable for us to ask others to respect the purpose of this thread?

Again, if we are making ad hominem attacks at specific other members, that's one thing. I would say that would be wrong. KW posted an ad hominem attack specifically targeted at JW and I objected. I would have done the same had he posted that about you.

Yes, and that's fair. But I reiterate that potshots beget potshots and that should not be any surprise.

I am unaware of any such thread that prohibits right-wing dissent. The counterpart to this thread, the one that spurred its creation, was opened up before this one was and has long since been abandoned. There is one democrats gloat thread, and I just skimmed through all of it and not one request that folks of other ideology stay out, not challenge, or anything else. You might want to have a look.

Well, I appreciate the sentiment, but JW's comments, indeed nearly all of her posts, invite such things and under those circumstances, kw's post did not seem any worse than hers.

I really didn't mean to derail the thread to talk about the general nastiness of partisanship. I just wanted to point out that there is no moral high ground here.

Go back and look at that 'abandoned thread' Freeduck and see if you can find hateful comments from conservatives directed at other members or undue rudeness or failure to comply with requests to take conservative commentary elsewhere. I guarantee you flaming and rudeness on the part of the Rightwingers is very rare as Nimh found out when he tried to make us equally as culpable. We didnt' object to flaming remarks about conservative things on that thread and we all just came over here and did our thing. Our thread is used from time to time for the purpose it was created. Again, I can't help it if the Lefties were so bored with their own stuff they couldn't keep their thread going, but I'm sure you could resurrect it and insult conservatism there to your hearts content. And we won't say a word.
