A friend of a friend moved nearby and we have been corresponding via email, talking about getting together in a general way, but we haven't yet met. Today I went out for lunch and I saw someone who looked interesting, and for some reason idly wondered if that was her. So I was surprised to come home and find an email from her. I wrote back saying I was just thinking about you, I thought I saw you at _____ restaurant today, ha ha, and she wrote back right away saying I was at _______ restaurant today!!! Shocked

So now I have hope that if I happen to pass one of y'all in an airport, I'll be able to ID you. Very Happy

Here is an example of how easy it is to make me smile!

I am smiling because I have: done the washing, swept the balcony, foiled the cats' latest attempts to start toileting in the potplants out there, vacuumed, done the furniture rearrangements I have been planning for the last couple of months - and they work - made more space in the study, cleaned the kitchen, talked to a friend for a long time, read more of "Middlesex" for the A2k book group and am generally all shipshape and arranged for the week.

Only, now it is Monday....

Finding this website:

Of course, I had to laugh when my company "rolled out" this "new" program I've been using (without giving it a name) for years.

Getting my computer up and running again after ten days "down". Apart from my morning coffee it is the only addiction I have ever had but I come close to depression without it

Oh Eve, I know EXACTLY what you were going through. I have had that happen to me, and it's a bummer. Who would ever think that we could become so emotionally involved with a machine? Congrats on your computer's revival! Very Happy

i went out today in a bit of a confused mood. ended up buying things. an egg-whisker, wonder when i'll need that. some new knives, which got me a kiss from anastasia, which made me smile. a muffin tin. and a cake rack (undeterred by my absolute failure at making a lemon-almond-ricotta cake last week).

considering that previous fiasco, i also bought can't-fail brownie mix. american import, in an american import-store i'd often passed by but never been inside before. they had dozens of kinds of cereal, too, and i immediately remembered how anastasia used to lament about not being able to find her cereals here. apple jacks sounded familiar: i was sure that was one of the ones she'd mentioned repeatedly! so i bought 'em - at a 7 bucks special import price, as it turned out ... but hell, it got me another kiss, so i'm all-right ;-)

two very dark kids sitting in the hallway of the building across from our balcony, probably stoned outa their heads, singing along to the walkman they share - which is probably why they're singing so terribly out of key, in these really highly pitched voices - "you - and I ..." - and the sound from the balcony of anastasia giggling about them.

(it's getting summer again Wink

Now a guy comes along, walking his dog, and asks them to sing that bit again, and they do, while he stands there.

(Anastasia later says he's a children's book writer, got a lot of stories on the web. She knows this kind of thing about people in the neighbourhood. Well, she met him in the coffeeshop Wink

A woman I've had on a crush on for years said I looked "dapper" today as we entered the building this morning. Nothing can go wrong now for the rest of the day, I know it!
