@OmSigDAVID,
I think you are an amazing soul.

Anyways

I like to think I have no fear. Sometimes, though I do.. Not often.

I like that and I'll poster sticker it... To remind me...

Thank you

@Region Philbis,
It's neck and neck; who's going to the finish line (midnight, December 31, 2011) first?

@Walter Hinteler,
That would have made me smile too. At least for the first 6 kinds. By number 19, maybe not so much.

An email indicating a possible win against a fraudulent website whose services I was dumb enough to subscribe to.

I signed on for what I thought was a month at some thirty bucks. The alleged services provided were so abysmal that I (like thousands of others, I discovered) simply put it all down as experience, told the site how I felt about it and forgot about it.

I was horrified to receive a receipt, three months later, for $250 from said site!

When I protested, they said I had allowed direct debits from my account......they had no comment when I protested re the tripling of the fee!

I quickly moved to cancel my subscription, however, despite there being a cancellation process available on the site, one went through the process unsuccessfully many times, only to be informed at last that one had to write to or fax the parent company in Switzerland.

I emailed the company canceling the service, saying their cancellation process was ridiculous. Said I was prepared to fax an AUSTRALIAN number if supplied.

By that time I had discovered thousands of places on the web where people from all over the world complained of the same modus operandi, including the company continuing to take the vastly inflated fees out of people's accounts after they had cancelled.

At that point I cancelled the card they had access to and got a new one.

By then they had tried to take a further $250 out of my account, and began threatening me if I did not pay them.

Believe it or

I think that belongs on the kvetch thread, Deb, not the 'smile' thread.

@dlowan,
not, it's really hard for me to get to a fax.

No way was I using my work fax, for reasons including that no way was I giving these people the means to send threatening material to my work!

I finally managed to squeeze in a visit to a fax machine on Friday and repeated my numerous cancellations by fax.

Yesterday I received an email saying they had charged me a further subscription and saying they had placed the matter in the hands of their debt collection agency.

Cool, said I, I need the name and address and phone number of your Australian boss and the collection agency because I will now take the case straight to small claims court. I demanded various documents, pointed out again how they had violated their own published TOS, demanded proof of how they had informed me of the tripling of their fees (which their TOS said they had to do for any fee rise), why they had not followed their own TOS by canceling the service as soon as their attempts to take my money failed etc etc

Oddly I was emailed today saying they had kindly agreed to forgive my debt.

As I figure it they owe me $160 but I'll likely chalk it up to experience.

My iPad forced me to break up the post. The smile is at the very end!

Mind you, they clearly take large amounts of money off people, in relatively small amounts from each person, all over the world.

If I scared easily I'd have paid them another $500 by now.

I'll be looking into what I can do re their scam.

@Roberta,
I'm just a bit cautious. This came from a department other than their billing one...and it's odd to get such an email during public holidays.

Unless it's a little gnome working from home, pretending to be a variety of departments, like the Wizard of Oz!

Today is a public holiday here in Germany - Second Day of Christmas (aka St. Stephen's Day, Boxing Day).

We visited the local cemetery here in Potsdam, where many celebrities are buried. Among them, are the parents of Joop.
There grave is decorated with a male angel .... MALE, with genitals. This disturbed some people - so the male attribute was chipped of

I really didn't know what to think about it.
Until we had some coffee in the 'Royal bakery' opposite the street and were served by an angel
